To be fair Danny wouldn't have a clue what those are typically worn for. Are they not something a person would wear for a wedding? That's a genuine question as I've no idea either. They hardly look like something you'd wear popping to the local t'asda.
Love this dude. He's funny, kind and well mannered. Love how he takes the mick out himself. No matter what you have to endure always keep your sense of humor. Best way to live and cope xx
Danny, props for your attitude, youve never met a counter person or cook that wasnt your friend 30 minutes later, and complimentery as all people should when dining out.Remember these people are feeding you like a king or queen but you dont have to act the part.
A bloke from Yorkshire, sat watching another bloke from Yorkshire, eating various curry's at a camping table in the middle of a Birmingham backstreet.... what a time to be alive!!
I love this channel.I love your attitude, your accent, the way you just simply call him "camera man". I also love how you take your own table and chair and just sit down outside anywhere you please.
Shababs is a staple in Birmingham hands down the BEST curry in Town. Me and my Dad and Older brother set up what we call a Curry Klub with a Capital K. We go around Birmingham trying various Curry houses and when we went Shababs we just sacked it and decided to just go there. Now we go once a month and It’s the same every single time. 10/10
Oof, that looked exceptional! Love a massive naan like that, could just pile that mixed grill into it with the chips, wrap it up and work my way into a food coma!
Hi, Danny. I've been the Shababs twice. Its 100 miles for me from Preston but I can honestly say it's worth it. P/s you can take your own beer into the restaurant. You've just got to love it.
@@nick1635 To be fair Nick the Balti Triangle was not the only thing that took me to Birmingham. Believe it or not I took my family there for a weeks holiday. I know it makes no sense. But we enjoyed it so much we went back for another weeks break a year later. The Balti Triangle has been on my foody hit list for years. Its almost an urban legend now to hear of a restaurant you can take your own beer to, that has a sheet of glass on the table with the menu beneath it and serve curries in the pan they were cooked in. I had to see and taste this. And go back for more.
cj Yes I enjoyed my week in Brum and I've been back a couple of times since. The first time I went for a week was August 2020. With the pandemic it was hard to find a holiday in the uk. So we thought outside the box. I found I could stay at the Premier Inn for £40 a night, that combined with the 50% off eat out to help out deal ment I could live like a king for peanuts. There's plenty to do in Birmingham if you know where to go, here's a few places we went. Sealife centre, the Back to Back houses, Birmingham library (it's the largest library inn Europe), more canals than Venice if you fancy a wall, great views from Pierre Whites restaurant at the top of the Cube hotel. The list goes on. I know it might not be what you would expect for a holiday destination but there's plenty to do for a week away.
Unbelievable .... I'm a Brummie and this area of Ladypool Road etc is my old stomping ground. I'm now living in the South West and I could bloody weep because a decent curry hasn't been invented down here yet after 2 years of trying to find The Holy Grail. A bostin' video, as us Brummies would say mate. Subscribed !!!
Editor was on the ball, on this one. Nice, TIGHT, unobtrusive pacing corrections, keeping the flow right on the boil. fewer cheeky boomerangs and callbacks than some of the hilarious earlier episodes, but the edits on this one stood out to me because of how much they DIDN'T stand out. Solid 10. Food looks good, too, and I always enjoy Danny and Cameraman's adventures.
I can't believe you came to Birmingham and tried this place I've ever heard of this and clearly the food is just standard. I'm born and bred in Birmingham and I know all the good food places. You were on Ladypool Road and there is so many brilliant currie houses on that road
I went there on 21 August 2024 me and my mate had the mixed grill + the huge table nan and 2 garlic chicken balties and it's the best curry I've ever had! I walked down that road where the park is on spark hill! it was worth a trip up from Manchester to try shababs!
Really enjoy your videos Danny. It makes me laugh so much. Carry on doing what your doing. I love how the odd fart pops up 😂😂😂 Honestly it’s soo funny 👍🏼👍🏼
More familiar with the curry houses in and around the Selly-Oak area of Birmingham, was at university there from '91 to '94. I recall one of our go-to curry houses was the Dilshad, another was Khan's. I now live in the 🇺🇸 but yet to have a curry here as good as the ones I had back in the 🇬🇧.
@@traceywilliams6317 Akrams is good! Also try Sheereen Kadah in Balsall Heath if you haven't already, partic the katalama. It's very old school though - almost like a cafe.
Originally the balti in Birmingham was a dish of its own, you just chose what meat and veg you wanted. The restaurants were very basic, lino floors, plastic table cloths and no decorations. A shish kabab starter, balti and nann bread cost just a few quid. Then they started serving all of the other dishes in the karahi and calling them balties. I don't know if you can still get the original balti anywhere now.
Those charred bits on the side are condensed flavor that leaches into the dish during cooking and preserves the pans for generation, like a cast iron skillet but not used commercialy, they wash them but dont scrape off the bits.
@@handsoffmycactus2958 well hes not entirely accurate about the art of seasoning a pan or how maillard reactions work, but your response is quite a fair bit on the wrong side of pathetic
Visited this restaurant a few weeks after the Hairy Bikers visited and recommended the restaurant, both my wife and I thought the curries were "bog standard" and nothing special, far better ones in Birmingham. Think all restaurants pull out all the stops if they know the videos are going to be posted on social media or on Tv.
First and only time we tried it and it was tasty but not special. It needed to be for the prices. Couldn’t get the heat right when l asked for curry to be hot there was really no heat- that’s really a basic thing to be able to get right
a bikini ? not in this weather ! i laughed out loud then, do you know you make my day you are so full of warmth and can understand why you have built such a huge following , and honest genuine chap who i simply love watching thank you so much for your entertainment and great food , two wonderful things in life !
I love this guy. But can somebody please tell me what he does with the remaining food after he rates it. Does he take it home?...does he give it to the homeless or does he give it to the cameraman (i doubt it) if anybody knows, please tell me. I'm bloody starving watching this. What a job😍
Lahore Village (also on Ladypool road) has the BEST lamb curry (bhuna gohst) in my opinion, and an amazing masala fish. You should definitely try it if you come down to Birmingham again!
Born and bought up in spakhill/Tyseley moved to Spain have not been there 7years .ladypool Rd. Is the best place for food .so many places to eat for so cheap .I miss the place and the people
First went there in '88 and remembering the tandoori fish, balti tropical (with "elephant's ear" naan) and gulab garmun for pud - and particularly the bill, which was £13.50. Left Brum decades ago but would happily go back just to visit Shababs - the food is beyond great, Celestial is a word that should be used more often for glorious food, and Shababs is deffo in that category.
The one thing I've got from this channel that has changed what I get when I go out to eat or get a takeaway is fish from places like this. Would never previously have even crossed my mind to try fish. But everything I've tried has been really nice.
Another great vid. Please come down to Tooting and get on the curries there. Had the best curry of my life and it was fish! So good. Get back down to London Danny!
I am a Brummie. The Sylhet in Kings Heath. Recommended. The Sylhet is on a tiny little road. The Beatles and Pink Floyd played gigs across the road from the Sylhet in the 1960s.
Al Badar and Lahore Village (both very close to Shababs) are also very good. Al Badar does Lebanese cuisine whilst Lahore Village is the most popular restaurant with the locals in the Balti Triangle.
Danny is here to help business people, especially during lockdown when eateries were suffering. He is here as an encouragement not knock businesses down.
I always rate a curry house by my favourite dish which is a pathia. Never seen the point of korma, might as well have chicken soup. My fave place is Shirley Spice near Solihull, no fancy grills, basic but delicious food. If I want something more fancy I go to Sweet Chillies in Yardley Wood, they do a lovely crab curry.
It’s 11pm , I’m in Sydney and Ive never felt more homesick for Brum . I miss Akrams in Selly Park and the Rajpoot at Cotteridge . Never had a good curry in Australia yet.
Imagine wanting to go back to the absolute sh1hole that is the U.K when you're in a beautiful nature filled country with a good government, way less crime and just a way happier place to live. I'd love to be in your position right now instead of living in a place where people get stabbed for fun.
@@amilying2883 . It’s amazing how perceptions of different countries can be so far off what reality is . Aussies have completely the wrong perceptions of the UK and in the UK the general consensus of Australia is also so far off the mark too . No fault of the general public , it’s just that folk believe everything they read and see on TV .
@@davidcartwright5591 Oh I don't wanna hear it bro, U.K is a horrible horrible place to live and I'm in the relatively good part way away from London. I can only imagine how bad London is. U.K murder rate : 1.21 Australia murder rate : 0.89 That alone should tell you everything you need to know. Just looking at the streets in England is disgusting, full of crack heads and it stinks of cigarettes I hate this country.
@@amilying2883 . . I respect your opinion mate and have no worries with the statistics . I do know I’d rather be on Bondi Beach checking out the Sheila’s than on Ladypool Rd in Birmingham eating a Balti off a camping table 😀😀😀. I lived away from the UK half my life now , and although I get back every year perhaps I need to throw away my rose coloured specs . Cheers mate and no offence ever intended .
I can eat a madras, and it's so nice! A very nice kick and flavours! I like any naan, My favourite naan is a peshwari naan! I also like a lamb tikka makhani which is nowhere near as spicy as a madras but it's lovely! Also I like a Patia sometimes! I love spicy curries! Been eating curries for years!
Great review again 👍👍, proud brummie and i love a balti. ( Azim's, Lozells Rd is my favourite 👌😋). Shababs looks lovely as well 👌. Come on though Danny, you don't need a fork, use ya naan bread ☺☺ Proper balti dishes as well. 👌
Chilli Masala or Naga, anything hot off the chefs or house specials menu. I make my own these days though since I found a shop selling all the spices I need at amazing value, fairly big bags of spices for about £1 each
@@saarah2275 sorry thought i was replying to another comment. There's a sri lankan owned shop called family shopper across the road from tesco express on whitegate drive
@@saarah2275 Maybe there's one near you? All Family Shopper stores are locally owned by independent retailers… With over 80 stores you can be sure there's a Family Shopper at the heart of your local community. Depends on who runs it I suppose as the family who runs it could import the spices themselves
Danny, I can eat the spiciest of spicy foods. However, I prefer when the spicy food is full flavored vs food that will steam your eyeballs. There is something deeply satisfying when the food is full of flavor.
Agree with others that you should ask in takeaway containers, as its rate my takeaway. The takeaway portion can differ and the sizzler would be different too
Has a mixed grill but bangs on about the naan and only tastes a bit of fish and a wing. It would have been good to know how all the other components tasted, especially the seekh kebabs as they're the gold standard as to whether a mixed grill is good. Also those pans are rarely washed to retain the flavour so shouldn't be eaten out of, rather served from🤦🏾♂️
