Once I realized you were covering stuff outside of Europe I thought “How cool would it be if he talked about Cahokia?” Blew my mind when you really did! Kudos for picking lesser known places, lots of fascinating stuff here I’d never heard of til today.
As a St Louisan, I was delighted to see Cahokia featured. I live nearby and have visited the site many times. You can still climb to the top of Monk's Mound, the tallest mound in the area. From the top you can see St Louis and the Arch.
It is very, very difficult to find people talking about the future before the 19th century. It makes sense when you consider that the farther back you go, the slower advancement occurs. If you didn't have the perspective of the world ever changing much, you won't be inclined to consider a much different future.
They probably thought it would be exactly the same as it always had been. Didn’t think about the future like we do. They wore the same clothes, they did the same things and routines, there wasn’t a new technology being invented
@@draculastraphouse7863What a silly comment. We do know the future because we know the past. History repeats itself over and over and that is a fact. Every mighty empire inevitably falls. It’s is the natural cycle of life.
@@draculastraphouse7863you're right. This is gonna be the time things happen differently. After thousands of years of it repeating, change starts today right?
Dunwich is fascinating. If it hadn’t been destroyed, it’s believed it would now be the size of and had a similar history to Bristol, on the other side of the country.
As many others have said, good job covering other areas of the world besides Europe in this video. I love my Knights Templar and Vikings as much as the next guy, but I find myself more and more interested in the history of areas of the world that aren't usually talked about in the context of the "Medieval" period or from 500-1600 AD. I'd love to learn more about Medieval Africa and North America
These cities didn’t really vanish. They just declined in population, for various reasons (unknown reasons, in some cases). It’s still possible to visit what’s left of these cities. By the way, that Mayan city in Mexico’s name is not pronounced “Chicken Itsa.” Both “ch”s in Chichén Itzá are pronounced like the “ch”s in “choo choo.”
A brilliant video. Glad I subscribed. I love the way the narrator talks at 11.20 'it is thought that the decline began in the mid 1200's' in such a cheerful tone of voice !
Europe and Asia, many other places were still living in the Stone Age, it’s only called “middle” because during the enlightenment they tried splitting history into ancient/classical, middle, and modern periods; but they were too ignorant of other cultures
A large Mississippian Caddo Indian town was located on my 300 acre property in North Louisiana not far from the Poverty Point site. It sits at the top and surrounding area of the second highest elevation in Louisiana. We have found thousands of artifacts and have not made the location public yet but it could be one of the largest towns in the southern United States.
I know enough about Roman Art to understand that the creature in the thumbnail, despite looking like a scaled aquatic dog, is more than likely just a shark or whale... 😂 or even a saltwater crocodile....
Give me in the apartheid government of Rhodesia tried to say the great Stone House of Zimbabwe was built by the Phoenicians or some lost white tribe😂😂😂
I love the videos, but please work on your pronunciations! I've recently been to Chichen Itza and swum in the some of the cenotes (ce-no-te, not kenote). Amazing places. But I had to cringe a little when I heard the way you pronounced both the city and the sinkholes.
Paul Cooper's "Fall Of Civilizations" channel here on YT covers many of these in incredible detail if you're interested. I subscribe to this channel and his.
I love living in America, but I really wish the native population could've made it to the modern era. I would've loved to see what It could've looked like
Great episode! Do a video on the Middle Ages morality books called bestiaries please .They from all types of different countries in Europe and Middle East !
I was given a guided tour of Angkor wat by none other than the famous Lady Lara Croft. It wasn't without mishap though as I was responsible for her taking a tumble on more than one occasion. She never did forgive me for that.
@@PeachysMom ...or Cenote. Or Chichen Itza. Or Ely. Or Pinta. Or Worcester. Or anything French. Actually it would be quicker to write a list of things he actually knows how to pronounce. The guy really doesn't give a f! 😆
Please please please check the prononciation of the names you use. Your channel is fantastic but the mispronunciation of places or people we all know makes you look like you don’t care. It’s a pitty.
If you find having the script interrupted by "if you're a ******** fan, put your hands up" more than a little annoying, put your hand up. Or, you could do what I'm about to do--I'm putting this channel on my "do not recommend" list, so I don't have to listen to this inane interruption again.
