Wish we got the PZ II AUF C in game, basically a heavily modified PZ II; but with a much better engine and speed; thicker front armor around 35MM, and a bigger clip for the 20.
For anyone wondering what the fastest production tank was, that award goes to the FV101 Scorpion light tank, designed to go 72.5kph max, but managed a 82.23kph top speed in 2002 on a test track in Surrey.
I managed to clock 80mph in a Spartan on the test track at Ludgershall before the flywheel shit itself and parted company with the crank. That was with the governors removed and running on AVGAS.
@@sidwainhouse Spartan engine is 190hp and the mass is 8.172 tons. Christie M1931 was 10 tons and its engine was doing 450hp and mentioned by Spookston Soviet derivative the BT was 11.5 tons with only 400hp engine...
Considering the Wiesel 1 had an official top speed of 80 km/h and the the horsepower to weight ratio of the lightest variant was 31.6 I’d say it most certainly could go quicker, but I think the German military ever did serious top speed tests beyond what their design specifications demanded.
Man I do wish that footage of that armored Box going that fast existed... I'm pretty sure the crew would be getting concussions if they tried to go any faster than that though
I once had a conversation with a Leopard 1 driver who told me about his Leopard getting retired. I think It was a bridge layer variant. Since it was the last time they would be driving it, they decided to remove the engine limiter and floored it. He said it managed 110 km/h. I don't think he was a German tanker since I never heard of a German having fun.
Honestly though that's just the US mentality. Normal countries when trying to make something do the FAST they carefully design and measure out every curve of the vehicle to maximize airflow. They squeeze every single HP they can out of the smallest possible engine to maximize Power/Weight. The USA just shoves the biggest damn engine they can find in whatever hole is big enough to fit it in in whatever box on wheels happens to be available. See: Muscle cars, Hot Rod, Dodge in general but specifically the SRT Hellcat GRAND CARAVAN, and any sport truck put out by the big three US automotive companies in the late 90s early 2000s. Because who needs aerodynamics when you've got an engine block the size of a tool shed strapped into a van?
The M2A3 was fun at fast speeds only with an experienced crew. I remember drifting the Bradley. Pedal to the metal at times could literally feel the tracks full rpm. Would greatly enjoy a video about Amphibious/Swim kit vehicles, especially considering water crossings are one of the most dangerous maneuvers a unit can do. Great content 👍 thanks
Do you know if there are anti-air rounds for the 25mm bushmaster? Because now in war thunder, m3a3 can track planes and choppers, but would be cool to have anti air ammo
@@DanySdowo As 19D we were only given HE and APSD training rounds . The IBAS (Improved Bradley Acquisition System) Seemed pretty advanced, however were never trained to engage Aerial targets. There is a Aerial Target Sight outside the turret which tbh seemed completely outdated and I had no knowledge how to use. You could of course still engage close range Air with HE or coax 7.62. I'm sure there's others who know wayyy more. I'm just a fan of the channel.
@@DanySdowo To actually answer your original question. Yes, I found this "The A3's fire control software (FCSW) combines laser range, environmental readings, ammunition type, and turret control inputs to automatically elevate the gun for range and to automatically generate a kinematic lead solution if a target is moving. This functionality, very similar to that of the M1A2 Abrams, allows the gunner or commander to center the reticule on a moving target, lase the target, and achieve a first-round-hit, without the need to fire sensing rounds and adjust aim. " Wiki knowledge. I had no idea, and curious to know if the M2A3 I was on had this software.
@@noobiplays8539 Interesting. I was hoping for something like proximity fuses, since I know they already exist for 30/40/50mm, but at this point I don't know if they exist for 25mm as well
Another honorable mention for top speed would be the Ripsaw tank by Textron systems though I don’t think it been adopted for military use other than testing.
I would like to note the Ripsaw, the unarmed and unarmored prototype could reach 105kph/65mph in 3.5, and a recent unmanned variant has around 20-30mm of armor, a 30mm Bushmaster and 2 ATGMs (maybe Javelins from what I can gather) though it is a much slower speed at 40mph/64kph It also has appeared in multiple movies.
@@Spookston Bruh. Snail'd again. I ran it back frame by frame and it almost looks like it pen'd through the cupola, which would be even weirder. Reminds me of when you used to be able to kill Panther's and other tanks by somehow magically teleporting a .50 cal through the turret or roof.
I dont know what gaijin did to the low caliber machine guns but i've been doing this to multiple tanks recently, even tanks with 30mm+ armour everywhere. Something fucky is going on
Hot rod sounds like something someones like "we need something fast for testing purposes" and then rather than letting engineers do the work, just having a 5 minute conversation with the E4 mafia
A small turbine AGS kinda makes sense. I read that turbines have great fuel efficiency when under load, but horrible efficiency when idling. That's how the Abrams is simultaneously a gas guzzler and astoundingly fuel efficient at the same time, depending on if it's moving or not. A generator's load doesn't really fluctuate that much, and I'd expect for a tank the electrical load doesn't fluctuate that much (relative to the load fluctuation of moving the tank and not), so the AGS is not really "idling" much. If that's the case and the AGS is always under load when it's on... a small turbine could be great!
This reminds me of a funny story from the development of the Cromwell tank. The British were trying to adapt their Rolls Royce Merlin aircraft engine to work in a tank, eventually resulting in the Meteor. As a testbed for the new Meteor engine, they mounted it in a Crusader. Assuming this early testbed had the same specs as the final engine, that would theoretically give it somewhere around 30 hp per ton. When doing a test to see how fast it would go, both the man at the start of the run and the man at the end failed to actually record the time because of how shocked they were by it's speed. The max speed given by an onboard sensor was, "somewhere in excess of 50 mph". Which is just absolutely insane.
Wow, I assumed one of the Ripsaw variants would be the fastest ever tracked vehicle. I had never heard of the Hot Rod, and that is hilarious to think of an M113 going that fast. Really needs a flame paint job though.
The actual official tracked vehicle speed record is held by the air portable Christee M.1935.B weapons carrier and is recorded as being 125 MPH in a US Ordinance Department test. The record was set in 1936 and still stands.
Issue with high top speed in tracked vehicles is the crew lack the durability to take it. M1 Abrams has a speed limiter because it's quite capable of becoming airborne over small rises and the breaking spines if it's going at its mechanical top speed.
I mentioned the RVT-2 at the end. I looked into it while making this and its top speed was relatively low, somewhere in the 70-80km/h range. I don't remember the exact number. It makes sense since they were trying to experiment with responsiveness more than speed
what I'd love to see is a video on the fastest tanks to enter actual service, and even to see combat, and it'd be cool to analyze how effective that speed advantage was (or not)
As far as coverage of the HSTV-L & the HIMAG are concerned......keep posting! It's GR8 to have U mention the M-113 "Hot Rod". As w/ the fastest gun armed track vehicles, doesn't that title belong to either a FV 101 or FV 107 (Scorpion/ Scimitar)? Many thanx 👍👍
HIMAG looks like nothing quite so much as an evolution of the M1931 Christie. In wheeled modes the Christie could achieve some impressive speeds and both Cromwell and T-34 wound up incorporating a lot of Christie's ideas.
While not being hit IS better than having more armor, being able to just find and kill the enemy first is even better. So I can see why this project when nowhere.
Production M1A1s Abrams have been "tweaked" by motorheads in tank units to achieve 100 kph. I talked to someone "with knowledge of the situation" shall we say. Scuttlebutt had them going much faster, but that seems unlikely.
At those super high speeds though, wont it become an issue for te tracks? Like the insane amount of rattle they suddenly go through shaking them apart? But man that hot rod box is something else wonder how loud it is?
Like any Russian design, it is amazing on Paper.... pretty crappy in real life, but you don't need to know this Komrade.... The West must know how great the Soviet vehicles are (on paper)!!!
Needs more power! Local cop cars can go to 220km/h for a van and 250km/h for sedan, so it needs to be capable of going 280ish km/h, have armor that can take any small arms, 120mm smooth bore and coaxial machine gun.. now that great sunday driver!
Hmm I got a idea for a record attempt where is a cheap m113 a pair of beefed up engines say drag spec izuzu 4jj1 turbo diesels and some nitrous oxide, does it sound like fun?
