You’re a taller rider, how does the 1200 feel with the progressive shocks? Mainly do day trips, back and forth to work. But want to be able to bang out longer trips when I get the chance? Thanks in advance

I’m 6’ even and I rode mine for a 1200 mile trip. It wasn’t super comfortable, but part of that is because I got the king and queen seat.

Dude not to tell you your buisiness...but you never wait for it to warm up while riding it, always let a harley warm up in neutral until it idles down, harleys are very high compression bikes you should NEVER roll on the throttle at all until completely warm or you will blow a head gasket. ✌

Ken Ward it's okay to ride them very gently until it hits operating temp. the reason the head gasket could blow is because the cylinders actually grow and expand when they are hot. when the motor is cold the seal is not as tight. a stock Harley is actually not extremely high compression. Sporties are about 9:1.

Go to Hammerperf.com and read what you have there! It's special for sure, BFH /sledge cylinder head work with 2 inch valves 10.5 to 1 compression reverse dome piston, 600 lift cams, yup its a beast! Dan Norlin builds the best!!! I know, I own one!

My iron head XLCH was quick for its time. It's all we knew back then. They can be built to go fast, but it takes a lot of $$. But if you must, and want a real sleeper, Zipper engine mods. will do it. Any of you old timers remember Joe Smith? That man could build & tune a fast machine.

I have an '08 1200 Custom and it runs very good with a Stage 1, but this bike here doesn’t really impress me, based upon my owning a new factory 1972 XLCH that I clocked an official 122 mph on a flat road with no wind...so, where is the progression in performance???

That is correct...my cousin who was a trooper back in the day...clocked me at 121 and 123 on a new 100% factory stock 1972 AMF HD Sportster XLCH 1000 (61 BHP) with about 2K on the odometer. So, we've improved the Sportster how?

I bought my 883 for about 6k with a 2 yr aftermarket warranty. It would have been less if I didn't get the warranty. Stop in at your local hd dealer and shop the used stuff.

I love it. It was my first bike I bought it before ever riding a motorcycle before had somebody delivered to me I got on it and rode down the street. I personally think sportsters are great stater bikes but everybody is different.

Fastest? I beg to differ. My brother built his sportster. It'll easily pull the front tire off the ground. 120hp, 103ft lbs of tourqe.

I stroked a 65 sportster. That is a pretty bike but short stroke and hardly incredibly fast but it’s a short stroke bike and you’re not revving it. Why do you sell Christ when you’re trying to sell a bike? The true believer keeps his mouth shut.

@@parkersgarage4216 My 1200C has sentimental value. My wife bought it for me! But for a first Harley I'd recommend a Dyna, specifically a Low Rider. Easier to ride slow than a somewhat top heavy Sportster. I've got both.

@@parkersgarage4216 I'm not a big guy either and yes the lowrider is heavier but the seat is lower to the ground by about an inch. The lower seat and the lower center gravity makes the lowrider easier to handle when not moving

I also think they are magnificent motorcycles ,so much so that i think there is a case to be made that the sportster has ascended HD . For pure form of a simple , reliable fun motorcycle , it the sportster. The gigantic aftermarket speaks for the bike , even the iron head ( thats an interesting one) ticks a majority of boxes. I think though all MFGs need to slow the f**k down and not forget about what a motorcycle is , also not everyone has to ride everywhere doing 170mph at 11k rpm and not all of us want our bikes feeling like our sofa. Im on number 7 just got a 2020 iron , needs some adjustments to fit me better but thats all bikes.

Sometimes I wish I didn't have a rubber mount for the specific reason of putting an s&s 100ci crate motor in it, and someday in the near future I will probably do just that. Did you ever get yours finished?

Well it is a Hammer Performmance 1250cc so that in itself tells you that it makes at least 100hp because thats where those set ups put those bikes, and then it has some extra goodies. This bike made 120hp to the rear wheel so unless you have no idea about Hammer Performance then you would already know its fast lol

Two into one is a myth for actual power or low end torque but in actuality you get more power when intake and exhaust are bigger so the thing can breath properly just like any engine, check it out on aq dyno and see. You will always get a higher top end speed and power when it can get the air and fuel it needs to pull harder and longer.

I am sorry but you are wrong. On liquid cooled engines yes, air cooled motors run better and make more power with a 2-1 pipe, that is why older sportsters with 2-2 pipes also had a crossover pipe. It absolutely is not a myth to make more power with a 2-1 on an air cooled 45 degree vtwin. Check it on a dyno? Sure, I will gladly do that. hammerperf.com/dynoroom.shtml There are PLENTY of dyno graphs showing how a 2-1 makes more power. There is a science behind the pushing and pulling of each cylinder along with scavenging that make a 2-1 a more performance oriented pipe for most Harleys.

Had a bike similar to this. 106hp 2007 sportster 883 converted to 1200 with stage 4 not kit was built piece by piece. VnH 2 to 1 pro drag pipe, screaming eagle engine pieced together at Peterson’s Harley Davidson south!

Mine dusts other sportsters like this with 2 into 1 daily with Vance and Hines drag pipes. The 08 Nightster I own makes 98fpt and 105 horsepower

I have a 92 1200 with a little work , straight pipes … springer front end … bobber style and it’s WAY faster then my 88 and 103. It’s so light and it RIPs. People who say sportswear aren’t for men never drove a 1200 pinned in 3rd gear on a bend. They scream. I have them all choppers , big touring , etc etc the sportster is my fav to ride . Light , fast , low to the ground . Love it and it was 2500 bucks .. I have 45,000 bikes I like less lol

This has to be some kind of joke video.... harleys don't make any power and they don't handle at all, the technology is still back in the 1920s....... the engine is more suited to some kind of agricultural equipment lol . Don't get me wrong you can all ride what you like , it your choice . But value for money is crap , excitement level is a big fat 0 . And they shake and vibrate like some out of balance washing machine lol . Honestly people there is not a whole lot to like about a Harley..... Don't say I never owned one cos I have ...... rode it for about 30 miles and put it up for sale and never rode it again....... Sorry Harley dude's but facts are facts

I read a book once, it was called "Biggles Sweeps The Desert", it was a fictional account of a British world war two fighter pilots in the North African theatre, although it was written so well, you would think it was true, and when I read this book at age seven, I was sure that Biggles was a real pilot in the RAF. The best part of Biggles Sweeps The Desert is when Biggles bags the 110 that has been shooting up his airstrip with a couple of well aimed bursts from his aircrafts .303's. The worst part is when Biggles has to ditch his spitfire in the desert due to his compass malfunctioning thanks to the machinations of the willy hun. I really didn't like that bit, but Biggles does save the day in the end. Spoiler warning!

American made , That says it all...... Big cumbersome and outa date ...... The perfect way to turn petrol into noise without making horsepower. Don't get me wrong I love bikes but Harleys are just not very good at anything and cost way to much for what you get , just my personal thoughts .
