About me:
I am a wife, mom and CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist). I went to nursing school to get my ADN, started working and then went back for my BSN. I was a travel nurse for 2 years before starting CRNA school. I loved travel nursing so much but I also love anesthesia so I went back to school to become a CRNA. Fitness is a huge part of my life. I've competed in powerlifting and Crossfit. We are vegan because we are both huge animal lovers. We are also foster parents (awaiting the adoption of our daughter)!

I'm an RN. I could of graduated CRNA school this year at the ripe age of 26, however I got a job at the VA instead of going straight to the ICU and it opened up my eyes to other possibilities. Sure it would be easier to have my CRNA younger and only 2 years of college but then I wouldn't have known that the Army can pay for my entire CRNA program and I can be potentially debt free...my 2 cents ,✌️

A great idea for a future video. It doesn't sound like you did this because you're PRN it sounds like, but it would be great to get an idea of what sign on bonuses or loan repayment bonuses can be like for new grad CRNAs. I know every company doesn't do them and there is probably a reason why some companies have large bonuses, but it would nice to get an idea of what some companies have offered in the past. Even if you did like an anonymous poll from any CRNA friends of yours would be really nice!

My local ADN program has an accelerated option which is only 1 year because they don’t take summers off. So finding an accelerated program can also cut down the time slightly but like you said - CRNA school is competitive and I’m worried an ICU won’t want a new grad, making the journey even longer.

Hi Rhianna, thank you for this video. I am a nursing student in my second year in Canada. I am interested in becoming a CRNA but unfortunately, that doesn’t exist in Canada, so only anesthesiologists run the show. I hope to move to the USA immediately I’m done with my program. I have a few questions: 1. Do you know what the acceptance rate for people coming from Canada is or is it only American citizens they accept? 2. Do schools accept icu travel nursing experience? I have been browsing through some schools and didn’t see if schools would accept it.

Hi Rhiana! My one year in Medical intensive care unit is approaching. I just wanted to ask a few questions. Are CRNA schools picky/prefer specific ICU units over another like they’d choose someone with CVICU over Medical ICU? Additionally, is it possible to be a travel ICU nurse and then apply to CRNA school or would applications standout if one was a staff nurse?

I’ve been all over the place with what I want for my career. From OB/GYN PA, to Neonatal Nurse, to NP, to Nurse Midwife, to Anesthesiologist and now to CRNA as well. I currently hold my BS in Health sciences and I’m in a dilemma. I’m extremely interested in both babies&Women’s Health AND Anesthesiology, and I’ve told myself that if I settle for one or the other, I’ll probably be content, however, the thought of settling with just one doesn’t sit well with me. Hypothetically speaking, if I were to become a CNM and later decide that I want to go back to school become a CRNA, will I be able to work as a CNM and CRNA at the same time since I’m certified in both roles, assuming scheduling works out? Im currently on this path I have two years ICU experience just got my CCRN and finishing my BSN in an 9 month program this year. I will take GRE then apply in early 2022. Dont forget about chemistries yall. I was never required to take any chem for my ADN or BSN program so this year I am taking intro chem, chem 1 and 2, and organic chem. The programs im looking at require O chem with at least a B to be competitive. This year sucks for me school wise but at least im getting it done. Also, not to be a debby downer but it is often hard to get into the ICU as a new grad even as a BSN much less with an ADN. I was lucky enough to get in as a new grad with an ADN but im definitely the exception not the rule. It probably depends on location also I'm near the texas medical center with a large amount of magnet facilities that literally won't even look at a new grad unless they are a BSN. If youre in a large metropolitan area you may have a better shot of getting into ICU right away if you have a BSN as a new grad. It's getting hard out there for an ADN lol. But it definately would be the fastest way if it all falls into place for you! I appreciate your videos and motivation Rhianna.

Hi i absolutely love your channel, I just graduated high school and I’m going to start the prerequisites this fall, i was reading and I seen that I need to get my bsn before i get into CRNA school, so what i was going to do was do 4 years and go straight for my bsn, I’m just a little confused, so your saying that its faster to get my adn, and then get ICU experience while doing a 1 year RN to BSN program?

Do you have to have your masters to get your doctorate as a CRNA? Or can you go from BSN to the doctorate program for CRNA?

Thank you for sharing. CRNA school requires full time of critical care nursing experience. So how many hours have to work every week as RN to become full time experience to apply CRNA?

For years 4 and 5 are there other options besides working in the ICU ? any outpatient centers would qualify or is it specific to the school?

You mentioned about obtaining a BSN as you work in the ICU, but it’s not on the list. A BSN is required for CRNA school, correct?

If my school offers an AAS (Associates of applied science in nursing) verses an ADN, can I still take the same steps in becoming a CRNA? Get experience and then BSN and etc.

Lol definitely not fast! I've always wanted to do CRNA, but sometimes life takes you on a different path. I am a RN- BSN with 2 years med-surge and 1 year NICU. I am finally starting to look at other critical care areas that can lead me to CRNA. Wish I could stay in NICU for CRNA! Thanks for your videos, they are always helpful!

Dee W I definitely would like to look into programs that accept ER as a form of critical care. I absolutely love the ER, but becoming a CRNA is the goal so the ICU is inevitable

@@Davo2times Thanks! I know there are some NICU nurses that have gotten into CRNA, but I feel like there is so much stuff I am missing out on that adult ICU has. ER is definitely on my list to try out, thanks for your input!

I think it’s important to note a lot of hospitals won’t take you without a BSN

If you are an RN, do you have to quit your RN job for 3 years to pursue CRNA full-time? This is possible for many RNs . Any advise?
