Absolutely love your approach. Would love to hear you perform some specific GOD tracks. I have Alex Rudinger, Mike Malyan and a few other top notch drummers playing the tracks. Do you do offer video playthroughs?
Legion sounds amazing. I just love how so many of the individual elements of the song require dedication to be able to perform. The drums, the bass, the electric guitars, and of course those vocals.
About to use "Clone Hero" where people can mod in existing songs to play along, where you can hook up your actual e drumset to a Rock Band game. As I'm starting out, it just doesn't make sense to me how someone can look at notes or something and not have everything visualised for playing along.
It's super interesting to learn that the last half came from Mirror Image. It makes a lot of sense then why it a) has that distinct shift in focus/mood and b) literally, directly references Mirror Image in the lyrics so naturally
Jay loved your video lesson, a very honest and important piece of literature of what song you chose to demonstrate for that purpose for, but can I just say something about your Acrylic set in that picture you took of it, holy crap dude that looks like an expensive piece of furniture LOL , nice choice of drum set buddy!!!😳❤🤘👋
Thanks for sharing one of the Most interesting drum parts of your new Album Masterpiece, which i Really love. Trying to get to Play the second part of Natural disaster and struggling to get it. Its going to be the best day ever, i Hope you Include natural disaster, echoes, Legion, burden, sirens and especially sacrifice…omg
I’ve been doing this with Guitar Pro for about as long as I’ve been drumming. (10+ years) However it’s created a big problem for me, as I don’t really retain anything. I’ve gotten extremely good at sight reading with this method, but when I try to play without following along with the transcript it’s like I don’t know the song at all! I really don’t know how to solve this problem. As an example, I can play something like Do Not Look Down by Meshuggah perfectly fine when following the transcript, but if I try to do it from memory it’s full of mistakes and I get lost almost immediately. Granted, this is a complex song that’s basically a giant polyrhythm, but the point is I know how to play it, it isn’t really hard…I just can’t remember it!
You have to practice committing it to memory too. The same happens for me when learning this stuff - I have to listen to the pattern enough times to be able to recall it in my mind. The kick / snare pattern at least. Then, I can begin the work on getting my limbs to hit things in the correct sequence. Give it time and listen with focus to whatever it is you’re trying to commit to memory. That’s an important part of the learning process too.
