On the 19th May 1536, the second wife of King Henry VIII was led to the execution scaffold inside of the Tower of London where a French swordsman was waiting for her. Anne Boleyn had been condemned to death for adultery, incest and treason with the charges saying she had plotted with other men to bring about Henry VIII her husband’s downfall and death. All of these charges are considered today to have been false, and that Anne Boleyn was simply murdered by her husband’s insistent and need to get rid of her so he could then be free to marry his third wife Jane Seymour. But Anne Boleyn throughout he rise to the position of Queen did encounter a number of enemies and people who did not support her. Some of these such as Sir Thomas More lost their heads on Tower Hill for their insolence and for offending the King, but there was a woman who was very hated by the queen, and she did have a number of significant arguments with the Queen. Lady Elizabeth Stafford was also known as the Duchess of Norfolk, but she was subjected to a terrible amount of abuse in her marriage with Thomas Howard the 3rd Duke of Norfolk who was one of Henry VIII’s most senior ministers and officials in government. But why did Lady Stafford become the enemy of Anne Boleyn?

The Duke of Norfolk looks uncannily like Patrick Troughton - who played the role in The Six Wives Of Henry VIII.

I have to think Anne Boleyn had a few female enemies. Her stepdaughter really wanted to see her go. Then there were ladies in waiting who were telling stories who couldn’t stand her especially if these were old ladies if Katherine of Aragon who had a reason to hate her

This was an interesting story. Anne Boleyn seemed to dislike women and had no female friends. She was even hard on her sister Mary.

Her daughter was even worse, she was infamous for hitting her female servants with objects and even stabbing the hand of one servant, she was vicious

That is bs. She was the only one who helped her sister Mary when she was in financial problems by sending her cloth ( which was insanely expensive at that time ) and a gold goblet. There were many who were inspired by her who later became the future reformers and many helped her daughter Elizabeth 1 survive like Kat Ashley. Her new ladies in waiting were replaced by new ladies for the execution only after 2 weeks of being with her cried at her execution and fought for her respectable burial.

She died with great dignity. It is obvious from her last letter to Henry that she knew nothing would save her, and she did not lower herself by begging. She knew him probably better than he knew himself. I"ve always been glad that I descend from Mary and have had negative feelings toward Anne for the way she treated her sister, yet I know that she had a great deal of influence on Henry over breaking away from the Church (as well as his own selfish desires to get away) and that she paved the way for Katherine Parr to exert influence. And, I do believe much of our world today exists because of her daughter's reign. I judt admire her matter-of-fact acceptance of her fate and her showing no weakness. Funny to think that she owes her fame to a great degree to the savage way in which she was treated. She was too intelligent to have been unfaithfull or to have stepped out of line; and she would definitely have not endangered her beloved brother, knowing what a monster Henry could be. Haven"t watched this film yet, but the sister-in-law was definitely jealous of Anne's relationship with her brother and the fact that he diidn't care about her. From what I've read. he may have been gay. What irony. Had another thought, but I've lost it. ;)

From what I’ve read, the Howards/Boleyns seem to have been extremely self-serving and over-ambitious. Team Katherine all the way!

OK I liked both replies 😅😅 I think you both can agree that NO ONE is Team Henry 8th lo😅 Both women were exceptionally good for the times they lived, but I got to give Anne the edge. Only because she literally was just a random courtier, a sort of " self made woman" of the times just like Elizabeth Woodville before.
