Protip: I don't know if this happens on the GC version, but on the PS2 version that I play there's a bug where the game locks up at the end of Year 2 when the season is transferring over. The way around this bug is to either sim the Cup race at Homestead or if you're in a tight Chase and can't afford to skip it, win the race. This only affects the Cup race, the Truck and Busch series races aren't glitched like that. Also, don't bother buying a team until you can afford to buy a Truck series team at the very least. Also, there are no caution flags in the Modified series, so don't wreck. No penalties for racing below the line either, so feel free to cut corners on road courses. Cutting the hairpin at Old Spice is a great way to make up time. You also need to set up your car. The only track you'll need to run a tire setup of 30 is Milwaukee for Modified, every other track in that series you'll be fast as a bullet if you go with 15. Rule #1 of Villain Runs: Learn to take people out without taking yourself out.

you should run the texture mod that updates all the paint schemes. Makes the game feel fresh

Something to take note, and it's the biggest problem this game has: the AI suffers NO tire wear. They make pit stops, but their pace doesn't change at all throughout the entire race. And since pit stops and cautions aren't in the Modified series, pretty much every race will start with you dominating the AI, then being dominated by the AI as your tires wear. Make the first few laps of every race count! Also, if you go into the settings menu, you can change between showing the track map and your car's damage. Unfortunately, there's no button to swap between them while racing, you have to do it in the menu.

I absolutely LOVED Windvow’s NASCAR 2005 “Chunk” career as this was the video game I grew up with. I was so sad when it came to a tragic end. I’ve been working to accurately recreate it up to the point of Chunk’s “death” and hope that I can soon mail him the memory card if I were able to get an address.
