Another thing about Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman in Batman Returns is that the entire movie has this really surreal tone, it can be gritty and brutal but there is also something very darkly majestic and almost fantastical about it. Which is something Tim Burton can do really well. So while your theory has some interesting grounding to it, even if it isn't true, something so weird like a woman being brought back to life by like cat angel things can be done well because the world Burton sets up for those two batman movies is so surreal and bizarre in its own right. The universe set up for Catwoman is shot for realism, they try to make the world and the people for the most part be realistic and they try to give it this grittiness and take away the surrealism of the Tim Burton films, so something like cats breathing life into a dead girl does not seem convincing and just comes across as stupid.
Ahh... My favorite time of year, Halloween, where I binge watch The Game/Film Den. Love this ep Dena! I fell for your videos because they were, for the most part, positive. Always finding the good in the bad/underrated. However it was really refreshing to see you "bear your claws" this episode and rip this train wreck to shreds. Can't wait til you repost part 2!
Thankies. It was kind of fun to do. Even tho I hate this movie, I kind of have a history with it with how I followed the making of it and watched that disaster unfold--it was kind of cathartic to get the complaining out of my system =P

19:40 actually the way Shrek shootin, most of them shot would have either missed, or hit non vital areas.. I mean that triangle firing pattern, looks like she hit in the hip (she noticable turns) shoulder & abdomen, so yeah well within the realms of possibility (im no gun expert so i don't know the calibur of that guns bullets, could her suit's corset ribbing have helped reduce injury if a bullet it that) Still amazed that so many people didn't grasp that catwoman in Batman Returns wasnt killed by the first fall. I mean yeah, she super lucky, but that more polite contrivance than a super power.
I'm rewatching this review and I have some Thoughts: 1. This movie has an aesthetic that could work with a better story. CGI is very stylized and the movie has this warm hues at times that help it look otherworldly at times. Probably has something to do with the director mostly doing music videos. 2. Ophelia knowing about what happened to Patience can be easily explained with the fact that being tested by cats, killed then reborn by cats is something that happened to previous cat women, including herself.
I find it ironic that Halle Berry was in the Flintstones movie, & her NAME was Sharon Stone. Hahahah. This was one of those films that you watch, & feel embarrassed watching it, even though you had nothing to do with it. lol I loved how she looked with just the little cat-eye mask & regular leather clothes. Why did they have to ruin it with that stupid dominatrix outfit with the giant headpiece? xD Doesn't matter, the movie would still suck, but STILL! She looked gorgeous at 26:57 should've left it alone.
Great review, made me laugh a lot. Though I have to ask, why did you have such a big problem with Patience resorting to violence as her first resort to solving her problems? I mean, that's usually what Selina did in Batman Returns. She even threatens an innocent mugging victim I believe. Also, disagree on the film not being "so bad, it's good." When I'm feeling down, this movie has me laughing harder than the FUNNIEST of Batman & Robin. The dialogue and story are just fucking hysterical IMO, and I love how seriously this stupid thing took itself hahahaha. Also, did you notice how much that basketball scene was pretty much just a huge ripoff of the play-fight scene between Matt and Elektra in Daredevil? Only the play-fight scene in Daredevil worked because it had energy and Affleck and Garner had enough chemistry to make it cute and fun rather than awkward, and in Catwoman there was NO energy and Pratt and Berry's chemistry pretty much extended to awful one liners and head tilts?
+TheMovieDoctorful Catwoman was just messing with the mugger victim, because she perceived her as weak, like she was before she became Catwoman. She didn't actually hurt her. The whole scene probably reminded her of what Shreck did to her and she was projecting her own insecurities on the victim. Also, Patience is supposed to be the protagonist in her film, yet they made no attempt to make her likable, where Selena was one of the villains in Batman Returns, so she can get away with more.
30:00 - 30:10 Again, I have another question about an opportunity they never took advantage of in this movie: why didn't they have Michelle Pfeiffer playing Ophelia? Or Hell, not just have her playing in this as Selina Kyle?? That shot of her picture as Catwoman from Batman Returns could be kinda be way of passing on the torch to "Patience" in a similar manner to Bruce passing on the torch of Batman to Dick Grayson or Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond. But it would only work if they just took out the whole *Catwoman throughout history* or *Supernatural Egyptian powers passed on through cats* or frigging *Male acade--* Christ, I couldn't finish that!🤦♂️🤦♂️
I grew up watching this on TV. Yes I still like it. I don't get the hate. I think it's a decent comic based movie to me. I'm one of hidden few that really don't mind the movie, I'm open to admiting I like the movie. Halle is pretty good in the movie as Catwoman, I liked her look more than Batman returns film version, I never liked the whole stitches she created her costume with. I like this costume more. I like green lantern as well. So everyone will attack me but I don't care. I respect others opinions so please respect mine.
Seriously, I'd take the Bat Credit Card over Anicent Egyptian Goddess of Vengeance Catwoman any day of the week. At least Batman was IN Batman & Robin! Catwoman isn't in her own movie!
I saw this movie some time ago when my brother & I rented the DVD. I must have turned my brain off while I was watching this or I was in "IDGAF mode" when watching it because there's quite a few details I missed.
Also it weird how CINO assumed magic powers...... to best of my knowlege, this is the only catwoman incarnation that does this, except for a some elseworld tales. Heck probably why she was popular, like Batman, she just a normal human, who able to throw down with the heavys when needed.

she could have been a gymnast in school/ college. Hay is it possible the fall increased her agility in the short term, like breaking cartilege increasing joint rotation, or acting as a spin allignment on an undisclosed spinal issue? heck her insanity is enough, I mean the human body can do surprising things when you push past pain barriers & other self defences. especially if her pain receptors arent working fully, some kinda minor nerve/spinal damage from the fall.

tim burtons catwoman was amazing, they should ve moved with the fans wishes and made a catwoman-movie with michelle pfeiffer and a script similarly dark and gothic like the first and second batman movie. the one with berry was just one big insult banned on film , a slap in the face of the fans of the feline anti-hero.
Hey Dena it's Brian. I'm not a Halle Berry fan and too hated the catwoman movie but will watch if there's absolutely nothing else on... Which means I'll never watch it. Haha Batman Returns IS amazing and too in my top faves. I think Pfeifer was ultimately way sexier than Berry. Tho Eartha Kitt I think just has the elements to make just about the perfect catwoman.
Batman got billion bat family members, I could see (if done right) a Catwoman family, that would be loosely affiliated but all free agents. Not an army worth though, just a handful like batmans' robin collection.

Well, I actually happen to like that unproduced Catwoman script you mention at the beginning, to the point that a friend and I began discussing ideas about what the cast and crew might’ve looked like. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. No offense.
I blame this movie for perpetuating the myth that the only economically viable superhero movies were ones with white male leads. Considering its contemporaries were bombs like Daredevil and Ang Lee’s Hulk, I’m not convinced the studios weren’t just making excuses. Thank goodness for movies like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel. Like em or not, they’re at least more competently made than this.
I may be the one person in the universe that actually kind of likes this movie. I mean, it's really-really-really dumb and all, but I find it a pleasant kind of dumb. The only thing I can't deny is the costume. The costume looks absolutely idiotic. They should have stuck with the full-body leather + cat-mask thing that she wore in her first outing, the skimpier one just sucks.
I mean Halle Berry is GORGEOUS. But when she becomes Catwoman she is just the worst. She looks SOOOO much better at the start of the movie. Also Halle Berry isn’t my wife in this timeline…
