When Sharon Stone says, "A freak?" I'm reminded of the line from Batman Returns, only my brain twists it to suit the movie. "You're just jealous because I'm a genuine freak and you have to wear make-up."

Yeah, okay, I never cared much for Halle Barry as an actress, but yeah, that bit with accepting the Razzie makes me like her a lot as a person. That was beautiful.

TheDreReichDude I don't recall her defending the film in her speech. Pretty sure she was being ironic. All of her defending arguments seemed like thinly veiled insults to the makers of All About Steve. And the script thing definitely seemed like a joke. But who knows: maybe something else happened afterwards I guess?? I've only seen the speech so I wouldn't know if she made other comments afterwards:S

@TheDreReichDude Then again, you know, the razzies do constantly make stupid nominations . Heck, the very first ceremony nominated.... SHINING. From STANLEY KUBRICK. Like... you know.... Someone who is considered one of the greatest directors of all time, and one of the most influential, namely for this precise film? Oh, and they also nominated Ennio Morricone...... For worst music.... for Jonh Carpenter's "The Thing". You wanna know why? 'Cause they basically just bash on film that are popular to hate at the time and that's it. The thing did very poorly at its time, so they just shoot someone who's already down. And yeah, a lot of nominations are not very good... but often, there is much worst, but they'll ignore it 'cause they don't care about any constructive criticism. They just want to bank on popular hatedom. That's it.
@LaurianeG.
@LaurianeG. 5 лет назад
@TheDreReichDude Good for you, but I still don't believe they don't offer anything constructive. Not only anyone on the internet can criticism on a film they don't like, but I sincerely believe what they are doing is at best useless, at most dangerous. It's useless 'cause a film that's unpopular now might be considered a classic in few years, but more than that we need to encourage people to be curious, to seek out and discover things, to make their own mind on things, not just content themselves to listen to popular opinion and just see what's trendy. I'd rather talk positive to encourage someone to see a film rather than trying to deprive someone from intentionally watching something they will end up liking. I'm not saying we should never talk negative about art, I'm just saying making a big ceremony that arbitrarily decide "this is awful" for dubious reasons, and by people who obviously don't know a thing about cinema...... That's another story.
@LaurianeG.

Man, that early 2000's era of directors slapping as many jump cuts as possible into their films to the point you'd get nausea or couldn't even tell what's going on in an attempt to look artsy and unique, is one era I seriously do not miss... In fact it does feel like that particular era was the tryhard era, I remember many films like this trying so hard to be unique and groundbreaking, but all they were able to break was my patience... Never saw this movie back in the day, but oh boy I remember the advertisements being all over the place, and then it just went away, never figured out it had bombed so hard, lol.

Where did you hear that rumor about this version of Catwoman going to Gotham to be in one of the Nolan movies? Because I couldn’t find any information online that could lead to that conclusion, plus Batman Begins premiered in 2005, while this movie premiered in 2004 and none of the production teams had anything to do with each other despite being based on (or in this case inspired by) DC Comics characters...
@Cyborcat
@Cyborcat 6 лет назад
I think it was just something the director had in mind and was probably in an earlier version of the script. I think it was more trying to leave the door open for the possibility for her to be in one of the Nolan Batman movies than anything else, and he ended up not doing it anyway. (this video is 5 years old, and I don't exactly take regular trips down CINO memory lane =P)

Would have been interesting, stupid but interesting if the villain was a female clayface, which there is you know. Who uses her, erm, self as a sort of youth cream for the masses. With the draw back of being addictive as well as massively dehydrating the user. With the final battle where Cino and Clay fight, showing that any damage is not even a tickle to this clay woman. With the final bit of instead of falling to her Death and splattering on the floor, more she falls into a patch of chemicals and keeps mutating into a hideous monster, in a sense overdosing on, well herself that was enhanced by said chemicals, till it eats up her humanity and turns her into a brainless formless pile of ick.

To Halle Berrys credit, there isn't anything anyone else could have done to pull this off. She's got nothing to work with, no one in this movie has. The actors are pretty much left to fend for themselves, it's like the director wasn't on set.

WOW! People brought racism when talking about this version of Catwoman?!? In The Flash TV show, Iris West and her dad are both played by black actors when in the comics they have always been white, and they are both doing a great job at playing their respective comic book counterpart. This is because the show creator was able to accurately adapt those characters and update them enough so they were original, but still enough so fans of the comic books and clearly tell that even those their races changed from adaptations, they are still the same people. It just has to do with how well a director is able to adapt a comic book character in adaptations so they don't end up as CINOs.

Thatneslper well Iris dad is great I agree with you very compiling acter and character,mbut I find Iris her self incredible annoying and almost petty much a waste of space and this may be just me but I find her a little Mary Sue ish. Especially in the frist season I found my self dreading the parts that would focus on her. Especially when she joined the team, I'm mean other than eye candy and giving Barry a shoulder to cry or or support she really doesn't have a role there. i do like the nolan catwoman in that instead of the custom her cat ears are really her night seeing goggles. Which i give prop to the director. I still prefer newmar potraler and eartha kitt soft purr voice toward the more modern girls to play the role. I had no problem with different catwoman playing the character especially since they sort of did that with the 60's show. So why not have multiple be cat woman. My only issue was the awful special effect. You can do CGI but why good god do it for the entire movie and on close up!. The script also needed a LOT of rework and the fight scene left you wonder what was going on. So pretty much what you said

@Cyborcat You know, I just had a thought: if they really wanted to connect this Catwoman to Batman, while using this plotline of an evil corporation that makes mutating beauty products, why didn't they make Sharon Stone a version of Clayface? Like Sondra Fuller/Lady Clay? And instead of Beauline, call it "Renuyu" like in *Feat of Clay* from Batman TAS. All in all, this movie is still terrible, but I'm just saying, there was a big opportunity they missed with this. And maybe, instead of Tom Lone, Benjamin Bratt played the Earth Prime character, Detective Carlos Alvarez who assisted Catwoman? Oh my God, I think I can rewrite a better Catwoman solo than what the director gave us.

"They acted like they didn't know anything about it or accused the naysayers of being comic book nerds who were too devoted to the original character to accept any change or worse, racist." History seemed to repeat itself with the Ghostbusters 2016 remake, except, if you don't like the movie, you have to be either a misogynist or a 40 year old nerd living in a basement (try seeing Silent Hill 4 to see what a real misogynist looks like). Anyway, I'm not saying whether the movie is going to be bad or not, I'm actually going to go see it to get a final opinion of it. But I actually had someone indirectly call me, again, a 40 year old nerd living in my parent's basement, never mind the fact that I'm 19 and I actually don't have a basement, joke's on whoever tried to argue against me. And, you know what, the trailers don't look horrendous, but, like how Catwoman misses the point of Batman Returns, it feels like the Ghostbusters remake/reboot/whatever kinda misses the point of the original. Maybe it'll be different when I see it, but if the marketing accurately represents the final product, I will be glad I'm right. It's also not that I can't accept change. I can accept change and there were some changes I liked when they made the Silent Hill movie, like having the painting from Silent Hill 3 as an easter egg despite Silent Hill being based on the first game (I only kind of like the first half of the movie, the rest sucked ass, btw). But this movie feels less like it's trying to change some of the things from the first movie to make it interesting and more like they're sticking to all of the plot points that we've already seen before. Sure, the tech is different and sparks a kinda bit of interest from me. But the giant ghost logo rampaging New York City? Come on, I've seen that before. What I've also seen before is the crass humor that's apparent in most comedies with female protagonists, like Bridesmaids for example. I'm not saying women aren't funny (WatchGirlsPlay is one of my fav channels), but puking in someone's face doesn't really make me chuckle, especially if they're trying to copy the library scene from the original, which got some chuckles out of me. In fact, Chris Hemsworth actually still makes me chuckle whenever I see his scene where he says he can make the ghost boobs bigger, but that was a joke you could have actually seen in the original Ghostbusters movie, unlike the "Power of Patty compels you" joke, which honestly made me laugh a few times, but not really anymore. I actually predicted the theatrical version of BvS to be an utter trainwreck, even though it's kind of a guilty pleasure for me. I'm hoping Ghostbusters 2016 to be another guilty pleasure, but considering all of the blatant feminist messages behind it and the fact that people say I have a political obligation to see this movie, it's very, very, very unlikely I'll enjoy it in the end. Sorry if I'm sh*tting on this movie, but what do you think? Do you think I'm right or are there some things you don't really with me agree on?
@Cyborcat
@Cyborcat 8 лет назад
I'm almost afraid to even talk about the Ghostbusters remake. But yah--with everyone who doesn't like the trailers being labeled misogynist ... it definitely made me think of how the creators reacted to the early criticism of "Catwoman". At least with Catwoman, most people knew it was going to be bad, and there was only a handful of people insisting on "giving it a chance". But, yah--I saw Bridesmaids a few years ago and that particular brand of humor (felt like two hours of awkward silence with random violence and toilet humor occasionally thrown in) really did NOT click with me. And that's the exact same vibe I get from the Ghostbusters trailers. There are a couple of scenes that got a little chuckle about of me (both involved the black lady), but for the most part, it doesn't look funny, so I'll be skipping it. I tend to bypass most remakes anyway--I already don't go to the theater that often, and I'm definitely not going to waste money on something that looks like a pale imitation of something I've already seen.
@florencelupin9885
@florencelupin9885 8 лет назад
+Cyborcat Yeah, I agree. I think after this Ghostbusters I'm done with remakes in general. One of the reasons I'm seeing it is cuz my fam is taking me, which I'm grateful for, I don't go to the theater that often. The other is because I like to see bad movies to see how they'll fail so I won't end up making the same mistakes when I'm writing. But, yeah. Also, do dogs use litter boxes? Also, do you think litter boxes are more convenient than the types of mats you put on the floor?

14:55 Sadly, a lot of feminists would agree with that statement.

I think a lot of anti feminists don't care about men either. I've seen some say they want to cut money support for sick or disabled people, many of which are men.

Okay so rant warning: It seriously bothers me how people's critique of the movie is solely based on comparing it to Batman Returns. More than that, the double standards people use to justify their pain in the ass about the character not being Selena Kyle but Patience are seriously hilarious. So in the first part there was critique to her acting like a cat and how ridiculous it looked, yet when it comes to the custom she HAS to look like a cat? This is what bothers me, not the fact that people seemingly didn't enjoy the movie but the fact that they nitpick every little tiny thing to hate on a movie that wasn't THAT BAD. If anything Halle Berry's acting saved the movie and I think she did a terrific job with what she was given. I think this movie was ahead of it's time as it can bring a lot of points about feminism and the way women are portrayed and their sexuality. This whole movie was about empowering Patience, something a lot of female lead character movies do today. If this movie was to be released this year I wholeheartedly believe that everyone would be like " YAAAS QUEEN, EMPOWERED QUEEN, ICONIC" but you know since it wasn't Selena Kyle let's just shit on it and not appreciate it for what it was. I'm not saying the movie is perfect. Trust me, it's FAR from it, but I do believe there are certain aspects that are horribly overlooked and misunderstood for the sake of a bunch of fan boys not having their wet dreams fulfilled. I loved this film and will always defend it for I believe it's deeply misunderstood. I believe this movie was a vision of the future empowered female who is comfortable with her body and her sexiness and still can kick ass and will do anything to rescue her personal power from a society that took it away from her.

Geny FEAR Thank you. Saved me from having to write a similar response to OP:) I completely agree with all your points. I also want to add that if this film (it probably wouldn't be exactly like this, because it really does wear the fact it was made in the early-mid 2000's on its sleeve. For better or worse. Probably for the worse) did come out this year, it probably would have suffered even more from being compared to f.ex Wonder Woman. A movie which most people at the very least seemed to enjoy. And even if they didn't it's difficult to argue CINO was somehow a more well made film than WW. Many can probably also agree on that it had a much better depiction of what feminism is actually about, or should be about at least, than what most films with similarly empowered female leads (like CINO) tend to have. Although admittedly it's not difficult to beat the borderline violent misandry that seemingly masquerades as feminism (as imagined by people who either don't know what feminism is about or are outright anti-feminist) in those films. Besides that we have also gotten other films and tv shows (mostly the latter) since the release of this film, which have given us way more likeable and well written female characters for people to admire. Yeah, I highly doubt Catwoman would have been more well received now than it was back then:S
