I really want to thank you for posting these videos. After watching your playthrough of you going through the SC1 campaign I downloaded the game again and played it through. So much Nostalgia and heartfelt memories playing this again. It would be so cool to see you go through the SC2 campaign as now that I've completed both SC1 campaigns, I have started playing SC2. Keep being awesome Day9! Congrats on your up coming 15 year anniversary!
Entire SC2 playthrough please. Please please please. This series has been so enjoyable to run through with you in particular, Day9. I'm sure you have a lot of other things scheduled, just know that a SC2 all 3 stories playthrough would be very well received.
Day9, Your micro is there. Your macro is there. We know you could feel it. Especially in that last mission. It's time to start climbing that ladder. Your old Arch-Nemesis Artosis is waiting. It was great to see you play through all sc/bw campaigns. So much nostalgia.
Man..... 1:13:38 that entire talk between Zeratul and Duran made my goosbumps go on overdrive as a kid..... i couldnt sleep for a few days without this sense of existential dread thinking about what Duran said.
despite replaying SC1 multiple times since SC2 has been out it has taken me until today years old to realize that if there is a SC3 it is almost certainly the Terran/Zerg/Protoss vs the UED as the fleet that did this much damage was a drop in the bucket of the power earth's forces have available.
To be fair to Jim. Its literally Zeratul that comes to him and tells him that Kerrigan has to live. Granted, Jim takes that information and runs with it straight into her arms, but its "the prophecy" that convinced everybody to let her off the hook. Not to mention, in a world where Zeratul doesn't deliver the prophecy, Jim presumably kills her and we get In Utter Darkness (amazing mission).
That has the bones of being an interesting conundrum for Jim having sworn to kill Kerrigan, but being told by Zeratul to save her while still having feelings for when she used to be human. Too bad they made the prophecy missions optional in Wings of Liberty, so it never gets referenced in any main cinematics that Raynor actually looked at it because they couldn't assume the player had done those missions.
well Jim kills the queen of blades but saves kerrigan is how i saw it rather than them giving her a free pass. We all know the qob was still being mind controlled by the overmind/amon.
I really do adore Brood War's final missions for every faction. Protoss is a large map where you have to defend against the fury of the swarm, Terran has you facing a series of Cerebrates with totally different aspects and Zerg throws you in the middle of a massive macro map with three enemies surrounding you. These campaign videos have been great and I would love to watch Day9 play through SC2's campaigns as well... probably give it a few weeks to see if he decides to play them again before dredging up old VoDs.
A story of an entire invasion fleet departing with valor and not returning, there have been several throughout history: The Athenian invasion of Sicily. Athens sent an invasion force and were wiped out almost to a man. Athens lost contact with them and wondered what had happened until a lone disheveled sailor went to a barber and told the tale. The Second Arab Siege of Constantinople. 170,000 people marched out of Damascus. Most perished in the siege, a storm on the return voyage destroyed the remnants. No one returned back home and the Arabs only found out after Byzantine emissaries arrived in Damascus.
Starcraft pathing is really strange, but there is always a good reason. The main reason that units sometimes walk "too close" to an enemy before shooting is that they simply don't check if they are in range all that often. Every few frames, the unit will check if it's close enough to shoot, and if so, it will go into the process of shooting. Since the game doesn't check every frame, it's sort of random whether a unit starts shooting the moment it gets in range or whether it takes a bit before it notices. If the unit is moving forward during that time, that means it will sometimes step too close before it stops moving and starts shooting. Tons of things in Starcraft are on timers that only expire every few frames, for performance reasons. There can be many hundreds or sometimes even thousands of units on the map at once, and every podunk computer has to process all of them every frame. So it can't check every little thing every time, like its approximate distances to all other units on the map. Especially if they want it to run on a Pentium P54C at 90 MHz. EDIT: And yes, D Matrix reveals units. In very rare cases, this could matter, like if a terran casts D matrix on a wraith to save it and then sends it back in cloaked before the D matrix wears off. But as soon as enemies break the matrix, the cloak will come back. I think the idea is that the matrix itself is visible, so even if the unit is cloaked, you can still see all those concentric circles around it. I think it's the same logic as the various goops revealing cloaked units, because even if the unit itself is invisible, you can still see the goop. The complete list of spells that reveal cloaked units is Defensive Matrix, Lockdown, Maelstrom, Irradiate, Ensnare, Stasis, Plague, and Acid Spore. Defensive Matrix has another oddity. I think units that are affected by it and burrow lose the effect. The code seems to deal damage to a unit equal its remaining D matrix HP when it burrows. No clue why. I do know that mines can be protected by D matrix after they burrow.
nah, there are other ways to beat it before the 25 minute mark. You don't actually have to take out the Terrans. You can build a hatchery in front of the Raszagal stasis cell plateau and then use a Nydus canal to have your units stream in through the backdoor.
okay to be FAIR to jimmy, zeratul showed up in a hallway on the hyperion at like 4:00am after jim had been drinking all night and was like "Kerrigan has to LIVE" and handed him a crystal full of terrible visions of doom. so Jim's crush was certainly ENCOURAGED, in a manner of speaking
Brood War was so good, and seeing Kerrigan become what she is....And then SC2. Plays great, but lackluster story. They really should've let Kerrigan just be evil.
Or if they had to do the redemption, do it better Like... you've got a perfect set up for a mind control / similar kind of thing for her or bringing out the worst parts, etc. etc. And they just... don't really. And there's so much stuff where it feels like they're scared to either let her be fully back to good or go full ruthless.
It was early in the Modern Gaming era, so she could never be held truly accountable for her actions. General Warfield had the right of it in HoTS, calling her out for her atrocities.
I dont mind Wings of Liberty too much. Feels like a true sequel, even if the redemption is a little hammy. But the next two games go full bananas and it basically turns into a bad anime by the very end.
The Russo Japanese war had the Japanese sink the Russian Pacific fleet and they sent their baltic fleet on year long expedition to the pacific and was completely destroyed when they arrived
So sad what happened to karrigan in sc2, going from queen bitch of the universe and being delightfully evil, burning bridges left and right, to being the heckin chosen one savior of all life. Ruined jim raynor's story too, shame.
1:04:30 Let's talk about luck. This TERRAN got infested and became a ZERG and now he's being mind controlled and fighting for the PROTOSS and he's being used to kill more TERRANs. By blowing up and dying. This guy has a better redemption story than Kerrigan and it all happened so fast. Edit: You say SC2 sucked up the story by making Raynor desperately in love with Kerrigan. We never got a bit of chemistry between them at all, YET even in SC1 when Kerrigan is soloing on Tarsonis SHE speaks to Jim like they've been battle buddies for a while. That's where I get my disbelief from. Apparently they've been hitting it for a while between the missions and we never get to see or hear about it until she dropped it out. They were together for one mission, and all we get is her calling him a pig. James: "Hell, I've saved you butt plenty of times." The number of times it actually happened: 0
It's always a letdown in the last mission, that the AIs are so incompetent. 13 minutes in and the terrans attacked with like 6 marines and a tank, and 2 goliaths lol Protoss doesn't use any spells, even though there are high templars walking around...
I would have loved to see this in the Mass Recall mod. On its normal difficulty, I wonder if it would be harder or easier. They did increase it just a little over original BW, to account for multi-building select and all army button. When I play Omega in that mod, I feel like the attacks that come at me are way more frequent and with units not wandering quite as stupidly as the two medics that walked into sunkens. I will max out on hydra/ling/ultra/defiler and still need a backup push to finish off the UED. It's also cool to have the extra appearances, so you have a Kerrigan you have to keep alive, and the UED flagship to kill off, for instance. Mengsk only nuked him one time in 43 mins??? Man...
Sean is forgetting how zeratul also is like 'no you can't kill her! She is the chosen one!' Like zeratul take her to zeras to become infested again. ughhhhhhh SC2 is so dumb.
Hey day9, im new to this game but how can u macro this fast i mean are the hotkeys really that close from eachother what keyboard do you use? (not like i could afford it anyways)what tips u have for fast macro?
Hi @Day9 I used to drink much water, then i found out, that my body needed that much water in order to handle cleaning some bodyinternal stuff. Since i drink lemon or Lime Juice (self pressed) with water, my body not only can fight those bacterias and stuff easy, he also don't need so much water any longer. I have much more health.
