you should totally do a video watching some iconic homestuck fan creations! broadway karkat (karkalicious my beloved), the animations (lullaby for gods, mambostuck, after us, ichellor's amazing 3d animations, etc), you cant fight the homestuck and other fan parodies. theres a lot of great/funny/iconic stuff

Top 5 for me? Dirk, Karkat, Dave, Rose, Roxy. Maybe in that order? Homestuck on a whole did a really good job at making most of the characters feel like people even if some of them are just in the way. It’s wild how with as long as homestuck is, so many characters would’ve benefited from more screen time.

Davesprite and Salamancer in top tier, i am satisfied. Though heracy against mayor is just sad. I would personally place gamzee higher but the fact that people absolutely despise him is the appeal for me.

I feel like the reason why most people say characters like Davepeta and Jane, wasted or last second characters, are their favorites is that people sort of mix Headcanon, Canon, Fanon, since Homestuck ended about eight years ago, and the info can get a bit muddled in that time. Also, sometimes people rank the characters as What They Could Have Been, over what they are. Davepeta being this hybrid of forgotten characters, doing things unintended by the game to become game breaking, returning relevancy to Davesprite, the disregarded duplicate of 'The Real Dave', and Nepeta, one of the first trolls to die, and the least characterized, giving them both time to flesh out and characterize their individual pieces... instead of being Cat!Dave for about a dozen pages. Also I agree with most of your rankings I heavily disagree with like, three. Mayor belongs in Homestick, Scratch belongs in Pretty Cool, and The Terezi ancestor should at least be Mid. They gave Eridan this almost Vegeta esque "Proud Alternian Noble" thing, where he's really stressed about the survival of the troll race, and is ingrained in alternian values. And while that does show in the hemospectrum blood racism stuff, he also thinks fondly on their culture when he's on the meteor, and there's a scene where he has a kinda sweet moment with Kanaya where he basically says "I trust you, don't fuck this up" and reassures her about the matriorb. my faves are Jade, john, roxy, rose, terezi, karkat,caliope, caliborn, jack noir/spades slick and doc scratch (yes, controversial) c: top five? Rose, Terezi, Doc Scratch, Jade and Calliope. I DO like Kanaya, she's just not a FAVE. I also REALLY like davepeta for some reason but yeah still not a fave since they don't do much. I just think they're neat. Least liked: Vriska.

This comment is gonna be written whenever i have comments about stuff because i aint ranking all the characters Jane yeah you get it shes basically a nothing burger and evil jane isnt interesting Lord english isn't really a character? His story is interesting and i like it but because of that hes just a non entity I love caliborn hes so evil and funny and every dialogue of his is great... But yknow not a character later I think the condesce is the villain that has lost the most because of her not being a character/meenah sure meeenah tells us character traits about the condesce... But not really? The condesce is a symbol of all the bad of alternia and the thing the trolls have to take down and also all the bad of earth kinda but... She isnt a character she just is bad and its never expounded and she doesnt do anything interesting and its homestucks most major flaw that the villains arent ever characters and the ones that are dont do anything villainous really (except scratch but like he gets replaced with a worse villain) Gamzee... Gamzee is so hard to talk about because hes interesting and his arc is to become lord englishes servant? And he knows that? Like if you really read into it him looking into cals eyes and talking to scratch means he has to know hes part of lord English who is his god and says that he is both his gods because his other god is doc scratch so he knows hes a villain and he goes crazy and snaps because of it.. and because hes English he can't die until the end of the comic so be becomes a silent joke thats not even funny anymore that ruins characters like terezi for a while. the shoosh pap didnt even really do anything gamzee kept being insane forever. I'd have had him sent on another meteor into skaia or smth to land in scratches apartment so he could get tossed around until caliborn shows up on earth C at the end of time Jake... Joke... Jape... I see you i see your potential unlike jane i see it the glimmer the spark of something good is inside Jake English and I can't really describe it but theres a semblance of a good character in jake he has flaws and hea trying to get over them and hes sucks and hes starting realize that and his relationship with dirk is kinda toxic (on both sides) but there something good in jake English that never comes out and the potential is squandered its why A6A5A1X2COMBO is my favorite act because there i really really feel it.. but he just becomes homestucks punching bag Jane.. well i cant talk about jane again without talking about epilogues jane really now. You'll see.. youll see... Vriska is the most complex character in homestuck... Shes evil then she has her arc where she starts being vulnerable and great and regretting her decisions and those decisions and choices are why she needs to be taken out and "die" but then everything falls apart without her and it sucks and the retcon (which i kinda like kinda dont) brings the worse of version of her back... Its not really the vriska who was vulnerable and actually learned her lesson (even though its after that for her) its basically the vriska who made Bec noir. The antagonistic evil vriska sure theres a bit of her development but she becomes homestucks most important character again shes the one leading the charge against its big bad i like late act5 act 2 vriska and early act 6 vriska much more as a character then she is at any other point like if that version of vriska somehow stayed alive the first time with that development I'd consider her beyond homestuck tier Now and now do you get my top 5 Jade, Roxy, Dave, terezi, vriska You already said everything i could say about most of them (i agree gamrezi sucks and makes her so bad) so i wanted to put my 2 cents in to characters ive probably commented on a lot characterw who i think deserve more credit like caliborn who is enjoyable to me, and characters i see potential thats squandered like jake, the condesce and English And vriska because she's vriska shes so complex you cant help but talk about her

Ok idk how I've stumbled on a Homestuck video after YEARS but I guess I gotta go through your readalong playlist now, because I kinda love to see discussions of these characters! I really like how much insight you provide about the story structure and character developements (because god knows I was not critically thinking about any of it while I was rwading) So I'm kinda curious how the story holds up! Despite all of the frustrated rambling it does seem like you at least got very invested haha Having a Strider bias feels very relatable to me, at least from what I remember Dave and Dirk were very high up there for me. I am also kinda curious how much of my impression of all the characters was my own impressions vs what I just absorbed in the fandom? Someone already mentioned fan animations but what stuck with me a lot were the fan songs, specifically by PhemieC. Oh my gosh RU-vid decided to eat my comment i am mad. The main things I think I mentioned were that: Lord English primarily takes from Caliborn. Everyone else in him basically just contributes small stuff like his muscles and HONK. Involving Jake and Jane's companies: Jane sure did name it Crocker Corp after she didn’t live up to her maid arc, huh. Hopefully that doesn’t imply something. Jake hiring Dirk isn’t too big of a deal. It very likely is Jake being the face of the company while Dirk is the one actually running stuff. There is weird stuff about their relationship outside of Homestuck proper, but it's not related to the company at all. The characters are Not the rulers of each kingdom. I think that it was just showing off that the kingdoms exist, not that they run them. As for my top 5 ignoring the epilogues and stuff to the best of my abilities (and not in any particular order): Dirk, Dave, Roxy, Caliborn, and either Karkat or Vriska depending on the mood. The Strilondes are self explanatory. I like Caliborn because he's the antagonist we get the most personality of and I really like that he's a super petty guy that is just the worst in a mostly comedic way. I really like characters that are petty to a comedic level so that is probably part of my bias

Dave, Roxy, Karkat, Terezi and Davesprite. If I could put more than 5 I might start putting more doomed Daves tbh, dude was the coolest
