This might be a bit controversial, but it seems like Vriska *did* do some things wrong,,

the nearly hot and cold mentioned at 1:22:00 ish is absolutely a BPD trait. two of the diagnostic criteria are unstable relationships and unstable self image. The duality is a pretty real thing we experience very intensely, where one moment the object of our fascination may seem to be perfect in every way, and when we get their validation or things go the way we hope, then we feel like the hottest shit ever. But the moment theres perceived rejection, in any sense, there is a harsh flip flop.

I always thought that arachnidsGrip had to do with Vriska being infleunced, or controlled by her spidermom

I love vriska sm i wrote an essay and forced my class to sit though a slide show presentation about her, shes awful and i love her for that

I think the worst thing that happened to vriska isn’t even her death but the large gap between seeing John again and their final conversation. Vriska moirailegence with terezi is sweet in that they both keep each other from going too far but that’s all it does, the bare minimum. It’s pretty one sided too because vriska abandons terezi to go be the hero against lord English just as she would have against Jack three years ago. She’s no different. Her interactions with John on the other hand show her changing dramatically. Their relationship wasn’t perfect by any means, it was manipulative just like all things with vriska are, but the biggest growth in her character always stems from John. John is the one who allowed Vriska a space to explore and come to terms with her regrets about how she was raised. She didn’t think twice about killing Tavros because he was attacking her and so acted accordingly but afterwards held major regrets. After she dies though, (Vriska) seemingly reverts back to awful ways, or does she? No she definitely does but there’s a reason. When she was with ghost John or (John) even when they were just friends and weren’t dating she was content. But then Lord English happened. The thing about Lord English killing (John) and (Vriska) surviving that attack is heartbreaking because it makes (Vriska) realize something important, the war isn’t over. When she died and it was just Jack Noir left she figured she could comfortably leave the matter in the hands of her friends. At the very least Jack wasn’t knocking at her door now that she was a bubble ghost right? So she puts down her sword and allows herself to stop existing as a weapon, that is, until (John) dies. Suddenly there’s this threat way bigger than Jack that just ripped her happiness and contentment away from her and (Vriska) is nothing if not a fighter so she goes right back to her old ways, her narcissism making her think this was a personal slight and convincing her it’s her responsibility to end English. Then alive John comes along and sees (Vriska) at her scheming manipulative worst after he’s mentally at his worst after a deeply isolating 3 year journey. For all that he tried to discount their friendship as something that “was only one day” those were likely just the words of the hopeless as he’s very happy to see her when they first meet. But since they’re both not in the mentally open place they once were, (vriska)’s callous disregard for life, even ghostly life, grates on him to the point he can’t take anymore and flips on her. John’s completely in the right to be mad at her and Vriska kind of knows this, still possessing enough self-awareness to admit she’s not good but state that she HAS to be the hero here. Still, this interaction is one of the major catalysts for (Vriska) becoming deeply depressed and hanging off of Meenah later. She doesn’t know how to change so she lefts someone else make the choices for her since there’s no one left to help her heal. What this super long comment is proposed to say is the biggest injustice done to vriska is John not being a part of the meteor crew, something that was stolen from both of them twice. Alpha John died on LOWAS and so could never meet or help living alpha Vriska, and (Vriska) died never getting to meet her John until much later. Terezi may be the moirail Vriska may think she wants or deserves but John is the moirail she needs to grow.

As a trans woman, I don’t hate trans vriska, in fact trans rep is always good, duh. But, I hate how the only even slightly confirmed trans character is one of the most controversial and arguably one of the worst characters in homestuck. I think trans Vriska would be absolutely good and fine if we also had trans rep elsewhere, such as with June, or with other common trans and non-binary headcanons (such as transmasc Jane, bigender Sollux, Dave’s whole deal, etc. etc.) being confirmed. We haven’t seen anything in canon yet about June Egbert aside from a couple one-off lines, and it just really rubs me the wrong way that out of all the potential characters to be the one who’s directly implied to be a trans woman, it’s Vriska.

I think my main issue with trans Vriska is that the only one of the 12 main trolls to be depicted as trans is the same one who is routinely sexually abusive, a common stereotype about transfems, and that's _on top_ of the antisemetism, plus the only other character kate codes as trans sexually harasses her friends, as well as her coding exclusively being used to fetishize and dehumanize intersex people, it's difficult to separate these things from kate as a person, both due to this clearly being a pattern and her behavior outside of her writing

Yo. Was my comment deleted? Let me restate myself. Trans vriska was handled horrible, and the canon its mentioned in flaky af. The people behind it LITERALLY was stated by its creators that we dont even have to even accept it as canon. Its why as a trans person i dislike june, and vriskas status as MTFs, its literally in as aspect of canon that be brushed under the rug, and was written by toxic fans turn canon content makers, and the unnesary and already controversial chocolate wishes. It just rubs me the wrong way how it was handled, and its in dismissabke canon

I was pretty excited to get into this video, since I got into Homestuck again recently and Vriska is definitely one of the more interesting characters to interpret and discuss. An hour and a half long video doing exactly that sounded great! But twenty minutes in, I can't handle this anymore, and no discussion has even started yet. I can't stand watching any more when just the basic summary, the easiest thing to get right, is filled with dramatic misinterpretations and inaccurate information. I really struggle to have any faith that the deeper analysis will be worth listening to when even a straight retelling of the facts fails this hard.

i do see that someone with bpd did give some input on this video but as another person with bpd, bpd!vriska makes me intensely uncomfortable and i think it's bc i always read vriska as having NPD, not BPD- bpd often being a result of narcissistic abuse. so ig i projected my own abusers onto vriska. funnily enough i still like her a lot as a character, and a bpd reading does make more sense, but considering there's like... no good rep of bpd in media the idea of vriska being that makes me feel the same way some have stated trans vriska makes them feel i suppose. not a 1-to-1 bc trans vriska is Basically Canon (tm) and bpd vriska seems to just be a headcanon, but still. Vriska sucks though. Vriska has: Blinded Terezi Crippled Tavros Made Kanaya's life miserable Made Sollux kill Aradia Broken Aradia's mind She's also shown to have no remorse for those actions. She even bullied Jake and forced Tavros to fuse with a cat... something he's apparently allergic to. This is all meant to be *after* she's "learned" what she did was wrong too. I know Vriska will never get punished for that, despite the fact this is WAY before she ever tried to be a hero or redeem herself. Why won't she? Well, because she's everyone's favourite "pet" character, kind of like how Slimer was in Real Ghostbusters post-season 1 and Scrappy Doo was after his initial season or two. People WILL hate her, but nothing bad can happen to her, no matter how much of a forked up individual she is.
