Announced nearly 5 years ago at the end of middle school and now I’m about to go to college for Aerospace Engineering.. 5 years of disappointment Edit: Season3 of FAM wasn’t that great but Season4 was really good
For me I am an Old Man running out of time. Lived through Moon Landing and The Space Race. I was lucky enough to see/touch the shot down spy plane and the visited Cosmos Museum in Moscow. This whole Kerbal Experience reconnected me with my past and allowed me to be a participant(in simulation) and not just witness. I am grateful yet disappointed. Good luck young people in your future.
The positive fact is that KSP probably inspired you to choose the Aerospace college and build your career in this field. One day you'll play KSP in person ^^
Objectively correct impression of For All Mankind. The space station feels like something that should have been in the 2030s decade arc rather than the 1990s. Everything else at least felt feasible for the era; that thing is ludicrous and shouldn’t have appeared at all.
The sane here, except I did get KSP 2 in EA and refunded it after about 1 hour. KSP 2 could have been great, but corporate greed and decision making killed it before the development even started.
I've been playing since 2012, I got into 2 after For Science! and the things that are there are such a much better experience than their equivalents in KSP1 (bugs not included). A level of UX polish that although I still love playing KSP1, it's lost a bit of shine.
I've seen so many people going "oh you can just make KSP 2 with mods anyway, don't be that sad" yeah, but what was planned for KSP2 was going to be more than what the mods were offering, and of higher quality in most cases. I had also spent a lot of money on it (I'm not saying nobody else did, but lots of people never even bought KSP2). I'm upset the game never got to be able to be released, not upset that I'll never be able to play something alike it.
More importantly, KSP2 was supposed to have an engine rebuild, for much more stability and built-in support for more parts, stationary bases, and dynamic construction environments. These aren't things that you can just mod in, they need parts of the game engine to support them. All the mod solutions are janky work-arounds that are still quite limited.
@@TlalocTemporal all i wanted was multiplayer. the concept of doing missions with more people than your singular self was the one thing i was most excited for. Give the community enough time and you would be surprised what they can accomplish. MP was even done at one point for KSP1. However i bought KSP2 because it was touted as an upgraded foundation with alot of KSP's shortcomings added or fixed from the first party studio. On a related note, Take Two (along with any other publisher) should be held accountable for buying up IPs and studios without releasing a minimal viable product. Beta and Early Access should come with a contractual obligation to release a 1.0 with all features originally pitched in a working state. break that contract, customers are liable for compensation. just an idea, likely an idea with lots of loopholes lol but i want there to be some slap on the wrist so that publishers with more money than common sense can stop ruining our favorite games.
@@BlooJay.mp4 -- True, multiplayer was a big selling point as well. And the best time to introduce multiplayer is when building the engine, as anyone who plays Skyrim Together should understand. On the killing of IPs, it's not just T2, it's most AAA game studios, and most media publishers in general. Copyright law is quite broken right now. Perhaps loosing exclusive rights to the IP if nothing is produced in 5 years would get people to move on IP. Not everything mind, just the IP. I don't like obligations of a working product on a deadling. I think that would encourage abuse of technically delivering on promises, and those decisions killing the project. I do think a standardization of terms would be helpful, where any kind of release guarantees the source code enters public domain 5 years after it's no longer supported, and any server systems get open source once they get shut down.
@@TlalocTemporal actually, this is a better idea than mine I think We just need something to curb studios abusing their customers. I don't think it's okay for publishers to get away with selling and not finishing an idea instead of a product. If a publisher can't finish the game due to monetary reasons, I actually like the idea that the game becomes public domain (this will help with preservation!) Or at the very least the IP should be handed over to someone that can finish it if able. You're right, forcing companies to release a minimal viable product will produce just that- an unfinished game that technically contains all pitched ideas but in the most half-assed way possible.
@@Josh-iv2bw It's a solar system mod for KSP1, that adds interstellar destinations, including a supermassive black hole, 4 stars, 15 planets and a bunch of moons.
Well, people keep voting politicians in that support it. Short term free market capitalism will ultimately destroy humanity, so there's more at stake than a computer game...
@@demonicsquid7217 Agreed, it kinda boils my blood seeing some people complain about the bad state of ksp2 while simultaneously supporting and encouraging this behavior and the people who caused it. Some KSP fanboys truly deserve the trash that they are getting.
I really hope as a purchase. There are worse publishers, sure (Ubisoft and Activision-Blizzard come to mind), but 2K really seems like they want to just get rid of the project at this point. So, a smaller, more passionate indie team *might* be able to purchase it.
It's not all doom and gloom. Rocketwerkz is working on a KSP successor. Though given that the game will be using a custom engine that Rocketwerkz themselves are making, it's going to be a while before we see any actual gameplay...but it will be revealed soon!
1:40 "Not a lot," but many of those bugs have been around since the beginning and are very annoying ingame. As a fellow developer, I'm glad they got some closure on them. Often it's either very difficult to debug and never gets finished, or you just have to ignore it to work on whatever management says is high priority.
I agree that while the amount of bugs is small, the significance of the fixes is high. The incorrect landed state has annoyed me ever since the game came out. And maneuver planning beyond fuel capacity is also very welcome.
Honestly I feel like the last season of For All Mankind was not bad at all. It's in a different spirit to the earlier ones of course, but I appreciate it nonetheless. I'm hyped for the next one, hoping it comes and doesn't end up like ksp 2...
The latest update might not be the last update... they have uploaded at least three more dev builds since, even if it's insignificant, it still means they're actively doing something, I hope they at least release a community build and the source code for the game though. You can see if they've updated anything at SteamDB
They advertised and sold the game with the explicit statement that "colonies, interstellar, and multiplay will be added [...] during Early Access". If they don't add those features, they are liable for false advertising and get definitely be sued.
I'm requesting a refund. I paid AAA cost for a game based on the goodwill of the company, and their track record from KSP. This is an unimaginable betrayal of their fans, and the publisher does not deserve to keep our money.
That's definitely a betrayal. And i'm sure I would feel similarly had I purchased the game, but unfortunately, the possibility of development ceasing is part of what you sign up for when you buy an early access game. I don't think you'll get your money back- but I'll be very glad for you if you do!
@@BigStrap Yeah but part of Early Access rules state that your game must have the funding to complete itself without Early Access funds. Therefore because they don't have enough funding and shut down because of it, you should be able to get a refund.
I'm right there with you. I feel like 200 hours into the game they'll say I played too much to get a refund. The first year the game was absolutely unplayable. 60 painful hours dealing with wobbly rockets and kraken attacks just to complete a mun landing and back.
Probably the biggest problem is TakeTwo spent over 10 million dollars and got less than 4 mil in return, I don't think a company that's down 6 mil is gonna care about anyones $60. Then yeah, the whole early access blah blah blah etc, we're not getting money back. But come on, I know it sucks but it's $60 you spent almost 2 years ago now, I live pay check to pay check and even I don't care about the money I spent. I just wanted to see ksp2 become great
:/ I agree that they don't deserve the money but this is my problem with early access anyway - I don't buy any game in early access that I wouldn't be OK with development stopping tomorrow.
Shit company, shit game, shit update . So much hype, so much excitement, so much potential. My disappointment cannot be put into words. I’ve never felt such anger and disgust at the incompetence and Mammon worship levels of greed of modern capitalism. KSP2 could’ve been so much more than a game, and that’s why I hope Take 2 somehow looses everything, they don’t deserve the IP and we all need to band together and turn Ksp 1 into everything and more than what KSP2 was supposed to be.
One notable change to me was that a "double counting" the early science missions were thwarted by having a "return to Kerbin" requirement added. I'm interested to see how people thwart this. I'm thinking of a single rocket with a command pod on several stages to return after 10k, space, orbit, etc. I wonder how many missions you could get done in one launch.
Have y’all heard of this game called Juno: New Origins? It’s like KSP 2 but has lower system requirements, is less expensive (freemium but the paid one is still cheaper than KSP 1 or 2), and it’s significantly easier to install mods
ShadowZone, do you have a modded install of KSP with USI and extraplanetary launchpads and construction set up where you can go out and build colonies and stations and sort of mimic the colony system we might have gotten in KSP2? Mix in some near and far future mods and you can build big colony ships that require resources you have to gather and process and it's almost the same as what we were told we were going to get. I'm subbed and waiting to see what you do now. Not many KSP players making KSP content left out here in 2024.
KSP 1 was a side project made by a marketing company, and it's still amazing years later. KSP 2 was made by a "real" big publisher, and it had the best marketing! And was a catastrophe. (the launch trailer for ksp2 is still my all time favorite game trailer, just imagine if it was connected to a better game project)
If neither Take Two nor an indie developer are willing to pick up this project, the least that Private Division can do is open source the game's codebase. At the very least, that'll give the KSP community an opportunity to complete the game that Private Division couldn't finish within their allotted budget / deadline.
You will never ever finish a game that isnt even 10% done with modders when an entire developer with millions of dollars as budget cant do it. On top of that devs that already left the studio said that the codebase is a complete dumbsterfire.
Yes, i really liked the plot too, even though i don't understand why they didn't consider crashing the asteroid at a fair reach of the "happiness valley" in order to mine it on solid ground. Mars has a very thin atmosphere and i think it would have been much easier to mine iridium on it afterwards. But well, should they have done that, bye bye the plot, which was pretty good :)
I was Thrilled when Take Two bought it. I thought it would become a legitimate main stream title. Then they made it a flag ship to an Indie Idea. Private killed it. I also thought they would build 2 from the ground up. They then went top secret and imported Kerbal 1 code to build around it. They kept us in the Dark rejecting everything except their own arrogance. It was destine for failure when Take Two did not understand what they had and the first step was a mistake. They should have watched the You Tube video "The Kerbal Effect". They(the power brokers) were never in Lunar Orbit experiencing a Planet Rise event or a soft touch down on its surface. I promise that who ever was in control of Kerbal 2's destiny would not be able to function in Kerbal SP therefore unable to understand it and its implications to learning. I myself learned so much so I am grateful and disappointed. Something better may come after all it is Physical Law. Mass, Motion, and Energy is all it takes to make the Universe go and so will we.
as a console player its bitter sweet that i was spared this brutalization of our beloved franchise, but it hurts in a weird way knowing ill probably never play ksp2 after looking forward to it through years of development and even watching you lot the last year or two. hope to see it live on beyond ksp1 modders though. and for FAM i only saw the first couple episodes with my family, but i just couldnt deal with the picking and choosing when to rewrite history. idk it was just every time something happened they either gave poor back story as to how on earth we ended up in that world instead of this one or ... well i guess its hollywood and ill only get my real alternate space histories from drunk nights with nerdy friends lol. never be afraid to get back to ksp1 with some new content, old game. never really gets old
I watched the first and second seasons of "For All Mankind" in part because I enjoy space related content (both fictional and real) and I'm part because my aunt was involved in the public relations for Mercury, Gemini, and I believe even into Apollo. I never did watch season 3 but it's interesting that it descended in quality, which is what I found happened with "The Man in the High Castle" as well. Anyway, with regards to KSP 2, I keep trying to win the lottery to see if I can purchase the IP and revive it. Oh well 😂
Boy oh boy, finally the update containing the multiplayer, colonies and extrasolar travel that we've been waiting for! Oh wait no, that's just a feverdream with reality being so disappointing and so far off the advertised mark that we're going to have to wait for Star Citizen to launch or fold to top it.
I hold out hope, I never bought KSP2 cause I didn’t see the point till it had real new features. But maybe Xbox or someone will buy it, it is such an amazing franchise, it can’t just be over.
Removal of the launcher is likely a "good will" gesture by the devs... to atleast allow the game to be modded into the future when the launcher does eventually die off.
I was in 3rd grade when ksp2 was announce Now im in the 8th grade, cant belive im now a teenager and ksp2 is still in development and even shutting down now😢 ill always love ksp2, goodbye~
Yeah, this really does look like a skeleton crew, potentially from PD itself, putting together a patch with fixes that were already committed before the WARN notice was served in May.
I couldn't get through the first 5 episodes of Season 3 lmao. I don't know why the writers decided to focus on the weird Danny-Karen plot so much. That show would have been 60 times better if Gordo and Tracy never had kids.
I think it is fair to be critical of a company that has gone silent regarding layoffs within the umbrella that KSP 2 falls within. It is equally concerning is still taking money for this "dead end" project.
I really liked season 4 of Fall all Man Kind. On the whole people stopped being dumb, no more people flying to space who really shouldn't have been. The politics in USSR were fun if a little cartoonish, all the events on Mars were really fun with the infighting and scheming of Helios employers. There were times when none of the parties involved were the 'Good guys' everyone had there own motives and goals, a moral grey started to set in.
that they put that annoying launcher also on KSP1 (and amde it REALLY hard to bypass it) was the reason i never bought 2. Turns out they only had by best in mind by annoying me.
i hope whoever buys ksp 2, IF they buy it will actually keep the promises and actually finish the game, tho i doubt it yet i know this isnt gonna be the full end of it.
Yes, there were/are gaming/software issues when KSP2 was released. A number of them have been resolved. And there are still several problems. But everyone says the developers have abandoned the game. But are we as players also guilty of it? Most of the buyers give a negative review. More and more players are no longer playing the game. Who was it that was the first to abandon the game? The players or the software studio. I think the players. And let's be honest. If you have a company that has a product that only gets negative reviews, justified or not, would you continue with the product?
I'm seeing various comments blaming corporate greed or the devs or fan expectations or covid or whatnot, however I feel in this case that a fuckup this big took everyone pulling together to achieve.
I personally loved season 1 of FAM. It was by far the best. Season 2 was really boring to me. I though that it was the worst. 3 was fun. I thought 4 is actually pretty good. I thought it was cool being able to peak into the soviet side of things. I also thought that the mars revolution was a fun idea, and I like that they brought back the North Korean dude.
Thanks for the sad update on KSP 2. Very sad, it could have been a great game if they could have pulled it off... On For All Mankind, I've been keeping up with the show and enjoy it a lot. It seems to be doing well enough that it was announced a spinoff is coming that will show us what was/is going on the Russian side of things in that alternate universe. What made you think it was declining after season 2? What did you want to see, anything specific?
*For All Man Kind* season 2 is really rough, a lot of people stopped watching then (including me) Eventually, I resumed watching and it does improve, every season finale is particularly interesting *especially* for KSP fans who understand in depth what's going on there! If you want to skip season 2 for whatever reason, just do it, but see what happens involving Mars, especially the ships, matey! lol. Definitely worth checking out.
Here’s what I think what happened. Devs showed KSP2 to the higher ups. Higher ups didn’t like it because it wasn’t a AAA looking game. Devs were rushed to fix it, making it buggy and unplayable in the process. Game makes less money than expected. Higher ups want to shut it down.
I still can’t figure out how to reliably transfer fuel from one tank to another. Maybe I’m just not understanding the interface? Or is that interface buggy?
We will need an OpenKSP to be created, along the same lines as OpenTTD among other titles, maintained and updated 100% by the community of players, modders and other interested parties. But for this to happen, KSP2 needs to die definitively.
I did feel For All Mankind put out an absolutely incredible season 1 and a deeply worthy season 2. I watched seasons 3 and 4 and found them to be pretty unsatisfying. Season 3 simply felt lazy. But with season 4, especially the character writing, they took a ridiculous nose-dive. With major characters behaving in ways I found to be unbelievable my suspension of disbelief was gone.
@@alternatemusicaddict5226 See, I remember that interview, but that still doesn't actually tell me that they actually figured it out or not because they could have had a theoretical idea of how to do it that would later end up being something that they couldn't do in actuality, so it's the same thing as saying nothing at all.
If I bought a product with promises of a certain functions in the future (certain roadmap) and they do not deliver, then I can sue them and request money return for the product (at least in EU :) )
There is nothing to indicate it being the final update. Calling it such is pure speculation and is counter productive. Especially as the patch announcement solicits feedback does indicate further development.
