@Perxcr Fully right! I would for sure give up the "comfort" of a full time 9-5 job for a few years to live out the dream of being a pro athlete during that time, knowing that I could always work a regular job once I was done playing. Too many people take the safe route right away without ever having given themselves a chance to make it pro. And it's a shame, because more people could make it pro than do. They just don't want it enough to try in the right way. Again this applies to any sport, not just soccer/football.

I did not have high level training until recently, so I am excited to see what I can do. And not to mention have see a huge improvement in my game recently. But I just got injured and could be out for weeks to months. Being brought up I think I have the strongest mentality there could be, I don't remember the last time I cried tbh. Hey Matt, been watching you for a while and this relates to me a lot. Funnily enough I am currently an actuary and choose that instead of sem-pro ball. Agents brought me back to reality after my junior year in college and I knew I could not support my family with that money. Both my parents were unemployed so it was all on me to provide. Im glad you were fortunate enough to pursue ball and your work ethic is amazing (inspiring stuff)! It truly is the best job in the world. Trust me people, if I have to choose between making 24k in soccer vs 100k in my current job, I would choose soccer every day of the week. If I had one do over in life, it would be to take footy more seriously as a kid. Then again circumstances mater, I hope the youngins watching now don't have to make that choice that I did. Good luck everyone and I hope everyone reading this gets that shot at the 2%!

Harsh reality that a lot of people aren't willing to accept. That was definitely me a couple years ago. I know the mindset of a lot of athletes is that if I train hard and eat good I'll become a pro, but the sad reality is that there's athletes out there who have crazy good genetics and will still perform better than you, even though they're lazy and eat nothing but fast food. Whenever people would ask me if I had a back up plan, I would get offended cause I felt like they were saying that I wasn't good enough to be pro. I wasn't haha, but my ego got in the way which is the best way to waste away the precious time we all have alive. My advice would be to do a reality check, which will feel like you're being punched in the mouth, and ask yourself if you actually see yourself at the pro level. I felt horrible for about a couple days, but when I started pursuing design I really felt hopeful for my new business and future. Wish y'all the best!

So true 🔥 like I live in South Africa and $1000 does go a longer way this side than in the US. For example a yearly salary of $120 000,00 is equal to R1 815 508,80 a year (7 December 2020) and that here is alot of money you a millionaire and you live very very comfortably. Where as in the US you dont love that millionaire lifestyle. Our highest paid player in South Africa earns about R10 million a year which is $661 682,00 which is still alot even in the US but in south Africa that's a salary which you can easily retire off from without ever Working again, if invested well because our cost of living is much lower than that side in the US. And our average monthly pay this side is between R100 and R120 thousand a month which is between $6 615,97 and $7939,82 a month. And footballers here in South Africa drive crazy expensive cars and have big houses they are, at the top level, basically set for life if they smart about their money. But again the cost of living here is much lower I'm sure if Matt came this side he would become a millionaire 😅 Anyways thought I should just share Really love your videos Matt keep it up.

Q&A: The idea behind almost every motivational quote and the 10,000 hour rule is, if you work hard and everyday, you will achieve something big. This is obviously true. But I think the kids take this too serious and train like 3 hours everyday. It is good to have this attitude. But I wittnessed it by myself it is not good to train too much and don't take breaks. I'm injured now for like 6 months. Obviously it's all about knowing your body when to take breaks, but can you give me some tips to balance it with training. Hey Matt just to clarify Ireland's top league is actually considered semi pro. Football is actually there second sport so many top Irish players make the switch to other parts of uk early on.

While in Indonesia highest paid professional footballer only paid about 7000$ as far as I know, and when you want to get paid that much you need to be in there for years and noticed as a Legend. While the average monthly salary professional footballer in Indonesia about 500$-1000$

People need to understand that smaller leagues mean smaller wages. In El Salvador for example they earn around $10 weekly so going from that to $400 means you’ve made it but the same cannot be said in a place like the U.S. as $400 isn’t even enough for bills.

I grew up watching Mexican pro soccer in the 90’s, and I’ve met a few pros from the Mexican first division, and it was known that in the most popular teams, the average player made an equivalent of $2000/month. And that it was common for teams to pay their players late. So making $2000 in Mexico is a lot of money. I also knew someone who played in the MLS’ first season in 96, he played for the Colorado Rapids, he was benched, so he was making like $200/game.. so it makes sense.

Listening to this from the U.K, it makes me realise how players in different countries experience different models of payment in the US. The U.S model is much different than the UK, in terms of scouting, academies, contracts and this topic. The U.K is harder to get pro football as there's only 4 Pro leagues in England, and a few in Scotland and Ireland, hence why the model of finances is easier. But theres 10 or 20 times as many pro leagues in America, causing the financial system to be controversial and unfair to players. There's more options in America in terms of pro leagues than the UK, which causes the financial differences

Work a lot on your crosses and you want to bring a lot to the attack of your team. Try to overlap the winger on your side and create a lot of opportunities for your team. Try to be as good defensively as offensively💪

Very true! I’ve had multiple family member played for the reserves of pro teams in Peru some even getting called to the u-21 and u-23 national teams and they would only get about $300-600 dollars a month. I mean currency does triple over there but it is still a low salary. Most of them left and continued their education or opened businesses. Only one of them who was on the pro team that made history and won international trophies against River Plate and Boca Juniors made enough to retire comfortably but even then he used that money to open businesses.

Passion doesn't last longer, according to human psychology. At some point of time, every human gets bored. Yes, after looking at these players lives, these grounds, the matches, the response after wins and other things, we do get fascinated, but that's not a reason to make a career in Football. Many professional players don't play as a passion, they play because it's their job.

Consistency and dedication is the key in young players, so many players have been playing their whole lives and it shows with the vast amount of talent and competition in the sport, you need to find your strengths and zone in on them. I can't speak for him but if you want to excel at the sport these are some of the most important things that young players often lose sight of.
