The story of one of the Uk's most recognisable busses around. Pete Townley talks to us about how it all happened and what he did to get it back on the road.
Saw this bus for the first time at York's Field of Dreams VW festival last weekend. It took a show n' shine trophy, in part due to the wonderfully motivating and inspiring story behind it. Much respect.
That part at 5:20 pretty much sums it all up for me, the air-cooled VW experience that is. Yes, they're a pain in the arse a lot of the time and there are days when I want mine gone and to replace it with something newer and more reliable, but for every one of those days there's another one when you're driving along and everything is perfect, and you think 'why on earth would ANYONE want anything else?' Those days make it worth all the hard work, torment and heartbreak.
i love your touchy story about your bus. i also have a 78 transporter bus but mine is automatic and fuel injected i do also love my breadloaf bus cheers from southern california
Thanks for posting this. My sons 71 Bay had exactly the same fire last month :-(. We have begun the rebuild already to get his back on the road over here in California. You video has inspired us even more to get it done. Re-Build is being documented here -> www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=601733&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Good day The Video Volks, I am Denmark Bulan, a VW enthusiast from the Philippines, particularly in Mindanao, the southernmost part. I was inspired by your video entitled The Fire Bay. In fact, my beloved kombi was burned just this day, it happened so fast in an area wherein we couldn't grab anything to stop the fire from spreading. Unfortunately the fire fighters came 10 minutes late, so there's nothing I can do but sat down and watch it eaten by flames. My heart was crushed that moment, seeing your beloved ride burning. But during that moment I too was thinking on how am i going to restore it again, most of the internal parts was burnt. It never came to my mind to put it to junk and get a road worthy car as they call the latest ones. but I say to my self, "Im broke but not discouraged, its just burned not dead." I wrote to humbly ask for your help in bringing my kombi back to the road where it should be. In cash or in parts will surely help me a lot, or if not at least in encouraging my fellow VW enthusiasts here in our country to extend their help just like what you did in your place. here's the link to our FB page facebook.com/groups/232388433447314/ Thank you for your time. Keep encouraging VW enthusiasts throughout the world. Sincerely, Denmark Bulan Volkswagen Club of the Philippines
