I'll say, I do like the design of the Adventures of Batman Joker. It has a solid Silver Age look, and I think it must've had nearly as much of an influence on the Legends of the Dark Knight episode of The New Batman Adventures as Dick Sprang's comic art did.

Now while I do agree these Joker's aren't memorable, but the gangster style voice kind of goes with the original version. The original had that gangster look. But what makes it bad in my opinion is he laughs at everything, that's not The Joker. Now maybe there's a version out there where he laughs at everything but I haven't read it and I've read a little from each era outside of my preferred eras (Golden Age, Post Crisis, New 52). But Joker tends to do his laughter for things he actually finds morbidly funny. The Joker was only seen once in the SuperFriends universe because of the legal issues. I believe Scarecrow and other Batman villains had the same issue. I actually liked the episode he was in as Joker does like chaos and I can see him teaming up with Darkseid and leading the Royal Flush Gang during this time.

_"A far cry from the days where we'd wind up getting several versions of the villain on the big and small screen within the same year"_ 2019 indeed kicked ass, between Cameron Monaghan's last take on Mr J & Joaquin Phoenix's Joker each knocking it out of the park... And for completion's sake just a few days before 2019 started, the Joker would make a live action cameo in the last episode of the first season of *Titans* , which aired on December 21, 2018 (he would have a much bigger role in the first episode of season 3, which came out in August 2021) ... and just a couple years later in 2021 we'd get a much better performance by Jared Leto in Justice League Snyder Cut, accompanied by the shitty Joker 2.0 from *Batwoman* season 3, that aired between 2021 & 2022 (Marquis Jet, played by Nick Creegan, in a bad homage to the "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" movie... if someone reading this is interested in watching a comparison, I recommend cheking out the video *Batwoman S3: A poor man's Return of the Joker* by youtuber Michael Harlan) ... followed a year later by Barry Keoghan doing a great job for "The Batman" (2022) Fittingly, 2020 was also the year in which the highly anticipated *Batman: 3 Jokers* would come out (I know a lot of people were disappointed, but I adored the conclusion, and the scenes with Joe Chill gave me misty eyes) Nowadays were still have one more Leto Joker performance to look forward to in the Ayer Cut (in which he's, in a roundabout way, a Darkseid henchman, "not really the place of the prince of chaos that we know today" but he apparently has a good reason to work with Enchantress, who works for Steppenwolf, sooo?) plus Barry Koeghan likely getting another cameo in Batman 2, and of course we'll have the privilege of watching Joaquin Phoenix in his 2024 *"Folie à Deux"* Yep, fans of the Joker and Lex Luthor have been spoilt to death recently, both in live action and animation (currently, Alan Tudyk is doing a fine job as the Joker in the HBO "Harley Quinn" cartoon... and he'll probably also be in the spin-of "Kite-Man: Hell Yeah!") the Kite-Man/Golden Glider spin-of ["Kite-Man:Hell Yeah!" previously known as "Noonan's"] should be good, with so many references to Garth Ennis' *Hitman* it can't possibly be bad! Noonan's sleazy bar, and the con jointed twins Joe & Moe Dubelz It's crazy how we're finally getting an adaptation of these guys, it gives me hope for a *Hitman* adaptation some day... with "the Boys" getting so much praise, and "Preacher" before that not having as much success but still getting 4 seasons, and of course the TV show "Daredevil" being such a huge success, which is relevant since a good chunk of the most popular scenes of the show come from Garth Ennis Punisher runs... Even if we don't get a full Hitman adaptation, at least making a short animated film, DC Nation style, about the most popular Hitman issue (#34), the Superman crossover _"Of Thee I Sing"_ would be really nice; Gee, I did it again didn't I, went on another wild tangent? Well if you've read that far, props to you random stranger, and cheers from France! May your days be long and your nights pleasant, Sai. Interesting thing to consider: Dr. Daka, the villain from the 1943 serial could *technically* be considered the first on--screen Joker, as the character originally was just The Joker before being changed into a Japanese scientist to aid the U.S propaganda effort. Despite this, the character is still depicted as The Joker on the serials' posters, he has a funhouse lair, and he has slicked-back hair and a string-tie, making him look VERY similar to the original appearances of Joker in the comics.

I know these will never compare to Mark Hammel's or Nichelson, Ledgers and others, not even Romero's at the time (who is still MY Joker), but as a kid when these all came out, I thought they were great. And I mean GREAT. Now, Romero even then outshined them, but as kids we just liked getting to have Joker aftually show up. You have to remember, we were watching Superman face a mustachioed uncostumed Parasite, a Prankster that also had no resemblence to his comic counterpart, a green Black Manta, a runty mindless Starro and everyone else not even being from the comics. Even as a teen, the Super Powers one was fun to finally see on the Super Friends (even though he was the least enjoyable of them all) after a several years of griping about his not having been in the Legion of Doom but Riddler and Scarecrow making the cut. Nice to see these guys get at least some credit; they were a generations (cartoon) Jokers.

I remember watching these versions of Joker as a kid, especially the Super Friends iteration, and yeah, they were passable. I think once Mark Hamill and BTAS came about, that became the bar that future iterations needed to cross. Great early work though because we really couldn't expect more from animation in this period.

(12 issues long, kinda serves as a conclusion to King's Batman run in general since it was cut short 15 issues) _[Especially if you like the "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" movie, and want to see a sequel of sort... ]_ Also, if you like Joker/Catwoman getting close, the Tom King Batman issue #49 is a pretty solid read.

To be fair, the Joker wasn't much more developed beyond just being the villain of a story for most of his career-he pretty much sat out the Silver Age except for a handful of cameos, effectively vanishing from comics until Romero reignited interest, but not really coming back into a full story until "The Joker's Five-Way Revenge" in 1973. Even his short-lived comic series did nothing to give him a character, something that really didn't start happening until midway through the Bronze Age. These first animated outings literally played the hand they were dealt, which was a villain with a distinctive appearance and little else.

Weinrib's Joker sounds like the late Ted Knight (who had narrated for Filmation in the late 60s, and is probably best known for his role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show). Back in the day, folks were fine with all of this because who knew when something new would come out, so they took what they could get. The only one that was off for me was Welker's performance. I felt that he could have used another voice for the character, as he'd used that particular voice for silly characters on HB comedy cartoons.

A very great video and I'm glad to see somebody acknowledge the pre Warner Bros. DC Comics classic animation from the Saturday morning era. I have to point out that you have made one big mistake. In The Adventures of Batman from 1968 and the New Scooby-Doo Movies, the voice of the Joker was NOT Larry Storch. I don't know where you got your information, but it is wrong. The voice of the Joker was actually Ted Knight. Ted was to the Adventures what Lennie Weinrib was to the New Adventures. The resident character voice for the villains and supportive players. I know voices, and I know that Ted Knight was the Joker as well as the Penguin, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Doll Man, Simon the Pieman and the Judge. What you've said about the Filmation and Hanna Barbera versions of the Joker has some truth, but I personally love the Filmation Batman cartoons and the long running SuperFriends series, which I have written 2 books about. In fact, it was The New Adventures of Batman that first introduced me to not only the Batman characters, but also the Super Hero and Comic Book genres when I was 5 years old in 1977, so The New Adventures of Batman is my personal favorite Batman cartoon. As for the claim that Larry Storch voiced over the Joker, I would need legal proof. Even the Filmation founder Lou Scheimer confirmed that it was Ted Knight and not Larry Storch who voiced over the Joker, and he knew it too. I know that Larry Storch was part of the cast of the New Scooby-Doo Movies, but he wasn't the Joker. As for Lennie Weinrib, his Joker voice was weak, but his best villain voice was the Penguin. Thanks again for the great video

If you ever run out of animated Jokers, would you start on the live action versions? And Harley Quinn already has several versions of herself tho she hasn’t been around as long. Even that hyena has numerous versions

I feel like the only reason people remember this version of the joker is because of the Scooby Doo Batman Crossover and it’s not because of the joker himself. They even brought back this type of joker for that episode of Brave and the Bold. Jeff Bennant is almost similar but is way better it’s almost a middle ground which made him great but these original jokers are pretty forgettable

Larry Storch's Joker is basically an impression of Frank Morgan as the Wizard of Oz.

First animated Joker surely is the one from the live series at the beginning of the show, an animated theme with the crowd prince of crime. Joker was the first animated appearance in the 1960s? Unless there is an unknown mysterious cartoon in the early? 1945/55? Advertising Detective Comics?
