BATHING ISSUES SOLVED! We live in the country with no electricity or hot water. We have a cast iron enamel bath, slightly raised on a frame, in a private part of the garden. There is a tin sheet underneath on which we light a fire to heat the water. When the water is hot enough we pull the metal sheet out and when the water cools we push it back under. If the bath metal gets too hot we sit on small timber boards. In winter to keep the bath warmer for longer we have a sheet of plywood we place over the bath that leaves enough room for our head to poke out. Also we have a black drum beside and higher then the bath, filled with water. The sun heats this during the day. It is one of our favourite place to enjoy a glass of bubbles in the evenings and watch the stars I think this would be a great solution for you Dan. Even in summer we fill it with cold water and jump in throughout the hot days to cool of.
Having a firebasket close by on the colder nights would be great. Not just for having a warmish spot to dry and dress, but for looking at when soaking tired muscles.
If I survived the capture and had discovered just how those children who had been caught and sent to those consentration camps . I would provide my labor for free , if just to keep the wild from over growing . I would be just as loud as they had been about those Consentration Camps . Imagine this place had 200 people living in that place . Most people would of sent them away .
They don't bark either. You can see how they missed him . I am sure they are getting better care . They use to be slender and now are really fat. No exercise .
@@daisyblooms4813 I have a Shiba cross. We can walk her without a leash and she won't run away. Her first owner was very good at training. When it comes to her food though, Shiba through and through. She's worse than our cat! 🤣
@@merpasakiejingu ha! :-) I lived with a couple that had a shiba, Panko, and god forbid if someone left the front door open. Panko was GONE and blocks away!!!
The dogs are gorgeous but the black and white one follows you everywhere i loved watching how loyal he was and truly enjoyed seeing the house all lit up what your doing is amazing
Anyone else up for planning a trip to help Dan out?! Down the road when the Chateau is stable. Trim work, cabinets, lighting, paint etc. We should gang up!
I'd love to go but I'm Seventy years old and my Wife is 75 just a little bit to old for that kind of chore . I get tired just mowing the one and a half acres of lawn with my Sit down lawn mower . Minus the creek and woods .
Never happen this is too staged…he doesn’t want help it’ll spoil his filming schedule……this is BS…at this rate he will still be working on this in 20yrs time ….
Probably a huge health and safety hazard to have people helping now. He probably will be open to the idea when it’s a safer site; I would imagine. I share your enthusiasm tho! It would be quite gratifying as anything done feels like a huge improvement!
At the rate his subscribership is growing he will be able to pay for professional help soon enough, especially to put the roof on that is a specialist job as chateaux roofs are complex. Although Dan is a very competent D.I.Y'er doing the roof should be done by professionals as he needs it to be watertight for the next century.
@@jmk1962 According to the article he posted a few days ago he's making $8000/month from RU-vid and that was written before the recent explosion of the subscriber count. He should be able to afford some help if he wants to.
@OzzyMoto2K10: You can do it too. It’s impossible to to think that Dan bought the absolute last château in derelict condition in France. Think of it: This is France so there have to be good deals everywhere. Buy one and start a RU-vid blog! G’dye mate!!
I'm really enjoying to dissappoint you with this, Dan absolutely knows what he is doing and learned either from a teacher or a manual, be it in video form. This is not "Talent", this is just skill and training.
I notice how when the LaLand people visit and make a comment he has that problem . Example is when they stated how nice it would be if they could see the Village , Getting all of the Lights up was a big Goal for him . Then when they said he could shower at their place he made sure he did the best he could to make a make shift home. That folding table / desk and arm lawn chair to hold his computer and his coffee was cool .
It's hilarious how much I kept checking and checking and checking just to see when you're upload came through. Glad to see it's here and now I'm going to go and enjoy it!
@@erineddy7999 You're totally fine, I have had it set to all notifications from the start and they only have it set for a few people I'm subscribed to but still I only get the notifications about 40% of the time. I wish I saw it more because I look forward to his videos everyday. I really do hope you have a wonderful weekend!
How does Dan do it all. He grafts, thinks of shots to film, sets the camera up, shift all the dirt and barrels and then has the skills and time to wire up a floodlit house. The man is remarkable.
I thought of your neighbors, looking across the tree line and seeing lights in the windows after so many dark years. There is life in the Château again -well done.
No house ,No car, no Radio /TV not a single luxury long as he has Internet connection he will be very Happy our man Dan is Johnny on the spot... with spot and fluffy .
No need for tv when you have internet! 😊 We camped for 3 months once with three kids and the disconnect from tech was amazing. We could barely get texts to send. Rofl BUT we did have electricity so we could run a couple small fridges. The meals cooked over a fire every night were just so wonderful too.
Thats funny . I tried to keep my White T-shirt clean while I was weed wacking and found it to be impossible . Notice how Dan never gets his white t-shirt dirty ? How does he do that when he uses that Lawn Blower and not one speck of dirt or dust on him .
Dan, I’m really proud of what you’ve accomplished. I don’t think that you realized, what this chateau was, when you first considered buying it. There’s a lot of humanity and souls in there. You’ve now become a humanitarian, in charge of something much bigger than can be expressed mate. Your beautiful chateau, is a giant standing monument, to selfless love and the horrors of inhumanity of war.
What I'm amazed about is that for over 80 years nothing was ever mentioned about this place . What is worse is for over 50 years it was left to waste away . We hear about Auchawetz and Dachu all of the time, but when it come to something amazing like this Chataue not one word . What ashame it is that someone who survived would not find it in them to keep it from the decay it came to .
I think they missed Dan alot and want to be able to stay with him . Best way is to be on their best behavior . See how they both wanted to jump in the hammock with him .
You seem so content being at the chateau! Your dogs are so cute and well behaved. Stay the course Dan everything is going to fall into place so this building can again provide happy memories for so many moving forward.
You can say that again . I know he was worried for awhile with his Wife and kids moving him out and he had to find a place . The Air B&B has a Policey you cannot stay more than a couple of days . Remember he said he was going to be homeless that was a real problem . Being in a foreign country can be pretty scarry .
As far as l know the boys and his wife did not move him out of his house in my opinion it, they agreed they had both changed and wanted different lives they are sharing the care of the boys. Dan stayed at his friends chateau for six months, his family also have premises nearby at one time he set up a workshop there. That is a spiteful thing to say sometimes Focus😊😊
That pile of rubble is going to be huge! I love the calm and comfy look when I see you with the dog. I would love to take care of you when you work there, but I know that is impossible. You maybe don't realise that you are a sort of a homefriend for all of us. We watch you every day and want to help. Take care my friend. 💋
I do so enjoy seeing Dan tidying up and getting ready for the upcoming two weeks of work with the excellent help of Nick and Cameron. Not sure what I am looking forward to the most: 1) removal of all heavy objects that are still inexplicably clinging to the walls; 2) removal of all trees and shrubbery growing out of the walls; or 3) removal of the moss from the pillar on the left. All in good time, and I will celebrate! 😂
CONGRATULATIONS on your first night at home, Dan! You will remember it for the rest of your life. Probably sit around the fireplace and tell the boys about at least a hundred times over the years. Can’t wait to see what you guys can accomplish over the next few weeks together. Sending good vibes that all goes as planned and that you stay safe while you work. 👍🪚😎
What are the dogs names! Glad they are with you to alert you to visitors. Cannot wait to see what Nick, Cameron’s and you accomplish the next two weeks! See you tomorrow!
What an achievement...... moving into the grounds of your own chateau. Lovely to see Stephanie and Philip visit. Great editing and filming. Love that you have the dogs for company. ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
I can not express how much I enjoy being a fly on the wall with your restoration. My joy is this very pass time. Thank you from all the chateau dreamers. Bliss to build.
When I watched The Chateau Diaries earlier, that was great how they brought great food and champagne 🍾🥂 to properly christin the place! ❤ So glad to hear that you are getting more help soon.🎉 Can't wait to see the progress coming soon 😁
Two weeks with Nick and Cameron! The inroads that will be made in that time. I always marvel at the amazing things you achieve all alone but every time you have helpers, your progress moves along by leaps and bounds. It is clear to see that getting the floors in and, then, the roof, during the summer and early autumn will allow you to have the enclosed space in which to get the indoor fine tuning done over the colder months. But I have to say, you do. To realize just how intensely dark night is until you demonstrate it. I am glad you have the pupsters with you.
I really look forward to seeing each day’s progress! It is 115 degrees (F) here in Phoenix Arizona…so I have to enjoy the countryside through your vlogs!!!!
Many congratulations Dan, 🍾🥂 your first night at Chateau de Chaumont.. wow... And huge congratulations on the celebrations with The Chateau Diaries tribute & the boost in subs... As Steph said when she & Philip came to celebrate your first night on site.... You have worked hard for this & soo deserve it. Now comes Nic Time.. woo hoo... Progress & chaos... Bring it on. 😜😜😜😜. PS hugs to the dogs, Buzz especially is enjoying his time with you ♥️ PPS: ROLL ON 300 SUBS 🥰🍾🥂
I'm just amazed at the apparent lack of flying insects when you turn on the lights ! Really appreciate these frequent streams ! Things seem to be progressing along nicely ! Thank you for having us "along for the ride"!!!
Yes, it all reminds me of growing up at the home my parents built in what Was a very rural area with a creek, a swamp and a thick old forest. Heaven for children! I remember laying in my sleeping bag in our backyard in the pitch black dark and watching Sputnik travel across the sky. Hopefully, Dan, you will get to see some celestial wonders at your chateau. Maybe ask Santa for a telescope or good binocs for Christmas - or a housewarming gift. *-)
Ya know Dan, when I saw the lighting go on with all the backlight spots in the rooms, I could have sworn I heard music and smelled a buffet and heard the tinkling of wine glasses. Out of curiosity, will you have a huge opening party with your patreon guests?? If so, I'll need to start saving my pennies for a party dress and a plane ticket. Absolutely love to be a proud part of this restoration...
Dan my hero. Honey, I must give you the credit you deserve. Though you have had help occasionally. You have been the primary source of the restoration of this chateau. I’m glad Nick and his helper will be with you for two weeks. Well my love until tomorrow. Take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺❤️🌞🕊😇🙏🌹👍🇺🇸🌈
It's wonderful seeing the Chateau all lit up inside and out. Can't wait to see what you, Nick, and Cameron get done in the next two weeks. There will be awesome progress, I'm sure. Sleep well 😴
Love the supervisors! I’m so glad that you’re staying on site now. That must feel so good. I’m glad it’s peaceful and not creepy. Most definitely. This week is going to be gangbusters. Looking forward to it. Thanks Dan. Sending sweet California vibes.💜🫶🤗😎🇺🇸
I dare say the nearby neighbor is not at all happy about a blazing beacon next door disrupting their peace and solitude. I know I wouldn’t be happy unless the lights were turned off early. People live in the country for a reason and one reason is not to have a neighbor whose house is lit up like a nightclub. I’m sure Dan will be sensitive to that situation as he would not appreciate the same behavior from his neighbor.
@@atomicrancher3745 I'm not sure how much the neighbour even sees of those lights considering his house is quite a bit below the château with a lot of trees on the hill between the two buildings.
Yes, I can see you busy laying floorboards through the night. Thaught that as Stephanie climbed the ladder. You'll be finished before September, so no worry about pink girly befrooms! Seriously, well done❤
Dan, Dan, Dan!!!! I can’t tell you how much I was filled with such pure joy watching you walk down the drive after your first night at the chateau, the first of so many to come….. It was almost emotional to watch!!! Then you followed it up with lighting up the inside as well as outside of the chateau, breathtaking….. I do hope tough Dan that you set yourself work time restrictions, now your on site it’s going to be so easy to just do another hour and then another. Make a deal with yourself to finish no later then a certain time and try to keep to it, your burn yourself out or even worse leave yourself open to having an accident. Yes I know That’s easier said then done and there will be times your push yourself hard, but please do try to stick to a work routine and cut off time….
I had a different reaction to Dan walking down the driveway after his 1st night at the chateau...I was in wonderment, thinking, mail already?😄 But then, I realized it was Nick.
Congratulations Dan, that first time sleeping on your own land is a great feeling, I remember it well. Great to see the dogs with you too. The building is looking even more dramatic with the extra lighting.
Hello Dan! So happy you are onsite. Even those it is not in a caravan. But you have your 2 trusty and loyal dogs. God Bless you in all you do. Love the process 😊❤
Good to finally get confirmation about the basement tiles. Good you are future proofing and damp proofing. Nothing more luxurious than underfloor heating.
Dan yes the dream team together for two weeks is epic. The bigger dog loves you and follows you everywhere. Great companions. You truly looked relaxed in that hammock with the dogs just chilling with you.
You're taking GIANT steps now! I can't wait to see the next few weks progress! Your editing kit, coffemachine and dogs make your camping pretty civilized, considering it's your property I'd say your digs could be worse! 😉 Oh and I never got a creepy feeling about the place at all, then again I've never been on site, but I'm glad to hear the night is peaceful there. Lovely to see you have the dogs to keep you company, they seem surprizingly cool about the situation, that's really comforting! If you take out the tile, save it somewhere for a mosaic garden feature with a story later on, fun project to do with the boys one day! Sleep tight Dan 💤🙏🌻
Im not the one telling a stranger what to do, like your advice is going to save them. Or, in this case, that they're too stupid to check their own dog for ticks.
It’ll be good to see Nick and Camron there to help you for a bit. I do not know how you do all you do on your own Dan. Cool that the dogs came to visit and keep you company. Will you have them for a while? I would imagine it could get a little lonely there all by yourself at times. See ya tomorrow Dan 👋🏻
Not sure what happened, but I kept checking to see if I would find your video, and I thought that maybe you were tired!!! It must be not easy doing this all by yourself, but keep hope your motivation up. Take some time to yourself as well Dan. 🍀
Dan, you might consider planting a rather large tree of some sort in a huge planter in the entry or main room to commemorate the state you originally found the place in.
Lots of exciting progress! Congratulations on your first night at the Château. Hope you and the doggies are getting lots of water during this hot humid time.
Congrats on moving in! The K9 inspection team are a great addition too, haha! This week will be a big one with Nick and Cameron. Looking forward to it.
I found this wonderful channel only 3 weeks ago. Spent days and days binge watching it and now I eagerly await the next daily episode. It’s truly amazing how much progress has been made almost solely by one person. Inspirational and incredibly humbling So much respect to you Dan……..
Hi Dan, With the dangers of forest fire hazard, you should create a fire break of at least 500 feet around the Chateau. The trees are so close to the building. It is just a suggestion. Mary P.S. You are doing an amazing job. Always think safety. Same
