I actually really like that idea. The biggest problem with that though is that they're are some movies where you don't care about any of them. They're just fodder. Or even just the fact of labeling something as emotional kinda takes away from the emotional impact.

On the remark to the Tuskegee experiment. They weren't actually paid. It was free medical treatment with food and a free burial service. They said it was going to last 6 months but the study was like 40 years. Also the people involved were never told they had syphilis or that they were given syphilis. Honestly the horror behind that story is worse than most films out now. Thousands of people infected and no one knowing it.

First Purge-2017 The Purge- 2022 Purge Anarchy- 2023 Purge Election Year- 2040 Election year is hilariously silly because technology has not increased, if you want to get down to the nitty gritty the purge movies do not show even the same technology level we have today, and that main character between purge 2 and 3 does not age at all.

Wouldn’t The First Purge be 2016 as this is experimental so is not the first annual purge, and this is set in the same year as the election? I’m confused

Michael King they count this experimental first purge as the first one. All timelines put the system island experiment as 2017. It's weird but the bad guys do the experiment, say it's the first purge, and the second purge is the one that is the First Nation wide purge.

13:38 to 17:34 For someone who has never seen any of The Purge movies (outside of RU-vid commentary videos) nor has too much interest in watching any of them straight-up, I found this timeline to be useful. I'm sorry for anyone who thought it was boring, long, and awful, but for someone not knowing much about the film's "lore", it does come in handy.

I'm a Mexican-American. I do LOVE the purge saga, it's a guilty pleasure, I guess (I'm not a psychopath, I swear 😂) But since the first movie came out, I just thought the concept was very interesting. And every movie that came out, I thought they were good--cringy, but fun. I believe I have seen all of the movies in theaters, so when Election Year came out, I went with my boyfriend to see it. This was in a theater in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. It was FULL. And I will never forget how funny this memory is, because the groans and sighs came all in unison from the citizens of this fine city. When the character Marcos, who is Mexican, said something about how the purge was like living in Cd. Juarez or something like that, EVERYONE AND THEIR GRANDMA groaned completely annoyed. 😂 Even I did the same. It was just a bad, horrible line 😂 because I lived in Cd. Juarez during its "worst" years and believe me, BELIEVE ME, it was nothing like that. 😂

I have family in Charleston and during the Dylan Roof shooting, they had to be on lockdown surrounding it. My sister worked at the hospital and they brought in the victims for help and she was one of the people working on them. I was a lot for all of them and since she was so close, we didn’t know if she was okay. It was scary and sad.

I'm on your girlfriends side: Even if they would have gotten the word out that Mercenarys are tacticly killing them no one would belive them, or no one would care. I have an idea. Jordan Peele writes and directs the next purge. Just think about it. Jordan Peele is amazing at exploring ideas about socialism and race as we have seen from his two outstanding movies. I think he would bring fresh life into the series if the studio gave him that choice.

Kudos to James and Chelsea for their awesome podcast!!! James is right: Kill Count is the fun review of horror movies and Dead Meat is the intellectual review of horror movies. Besides, it's great to hear from couples who share their love of horror movies. Keep up the great work!!! I do want to know if The Purge franchise is going to be worldwide and not just a national experiment on population control. I'm surprised it wasn't first based in China or India, both with overpopulation concerns. And why haven't anyone raised a concerned eye on how this purge experiment is affecting the world's eye view of the United States. What's the United Nations point of view? If this movie is becoming so popular, that it has its own TV series, they should create internationally purge movies as well... after at, this has an alternate universe setting. Something to think about....

Really old podcast, I know. But I just got to watch The First Purge on Blu-ray. Loved finally listening to this episode, fun as always. On the Blu-ray though, there was actually a deleted scene that explains that whole "fresh blood in the apartment" that just went nowhere in the movie. The blood was from Skeletor, who went back to Nia and Isaiah's and hid in the closet. He attacks the group but Isaiah fights him off. Which is why he's already there when they fight with the Nazi Mercs later.

I found a really cool Easter egg in this movie. So in the beginning when Isaiah is in front of the mirror, you can see a Halloween/Michael Myers in the background as a poster. It also isn’t just any incarnation but the one that is getting made by Blumhouse!

Have you considered doing a strangers: prey at night kill count? It came out a while ago and is probably on blu-ray by now, which seems to be your main criteria when scouting for movies to count up, as well as your apparent interest in the first movie. Also ❤️ the vids keep it up my dude.

I feel like an interesting Purge movie idea would be to make guns illegal, therefore The Purge technically would have done something good. Then you could have some really crazy knife fights and you would be forced to get creative with kills, along with the pseudo-political commentary of what happens when you take people's guns away. Also, what happens at jails and prisons? Do they just exterminate everyone? They don't even really talk about it...
