I think the fact that neither of these people are Americans or even Western makes a huge difference. They don't have the same qualms with these things that Americans do. If you go to the film's reviews, you will see that A LOT of Africans love this movie. It's a very different perspective, to say the least. I find a lot of similarities between Nigerians and Chinese, to be honest.
I am SO curious about the actress who plays LuLu and what her life has been like as a Black actress "trying to make it" in China. If this is the role that she agreed to, I can't imagine what the roles she turned down 🤔

Thanks so much! I am still working on the editing haha, I appreciate your compliments on them! The blackface caught us completely off guard. I wish we had recorded us watching this video 😂. Our reactions were priceless.
@@thisischaniece At least the black women they hire are feminine and pretty. USA avidly HATES beautiful skinny black women like Lori Harvey and Normani. White girls be jealous
I loved your commentary. The film had potential, but they ruined it with toxic tropes. Your sarcasm made me laugh a lot. Can’t wait for the next video!!!!
Aw thanks so much! It really had so much potential. Thankfully, overall Lulu seemed like a very sweet and likable character. I understand the humor in China is different, but it's best if it's not at the expense of another person or culture. Hoping to see more videos displaying intercultural relationships in the future!
When the movie shows the blackface that quick out the gate….Yelp! This was an amazing review of a truly cringeworthy movie. I hope you do more of these. I have to imagine you and Terry watching this together for the first time was amazing😆
Will definitely be doing more, so many movies I want to review 😂. Yes, we watched this together 😂 though unfortunately I didn't film our reactions because it would have been hilarious. That first part caught us both off guard for sure. He had a headache by the end of it because there was so much going on.
Even Chinese eat with their hands …of course not all(just like African countries) ..I’ve seen a lot of videos on the Chinese platforms where they eat that way 😅
Idk what to say..the movie had mixed messages it was meant to be funny but I can understand how some parts are offensive too. I loved ur commentary and your perspective. Keep going :)
Agree, there are ways to make fun of cultural differences while staying respectful, but it seems doing that properly is a bit of an art form. I do hope to see this actress in more movies. I guess we will see. Thanks for your support!!
Am not really a movie watcher, but I was delighted to see this vlog and get some fresh and additional insight into Afro-Sino relationships. So am a new subscriber and I await your future vlogs with interest.
I am sorry that my english is not good, because i study arabic
In 2000, CCTV broadcasted a TV series Marry into the Africa (嫁到非洲) which described a Chinese woman married a Guinean man. It’s much earlier than this movie.
I'm not gunna lie, i kinda like these kinds of movies... so bad that its good. I was half expecting lulu to turn out to be the bad guy and for him to get back with his ex. I'm mean at least they are trying haha. Great video thanks
Haha, true. Definitely a lot of those out there, especially a lot of Chinese dramas that I've wanted to share with friends but they are only subbed in Chinese so no way for other people to enjoy them unless they can read Chinese. I was actually quite surprised ONLY the mom had an issue with Lulu in the movie. Everyone else basically accepted her immediately, which was interesting to see. Very glad they didn't make Lulu the "bad guy", though in the movie synopsis they tell you they get married in the end, so I didn't get much of a surprise watching the ending 😂. They are trying for sure. Though the fact that the quality of the movie was so good and they hired fairly seasoned actors to play in it makes it a bit odd that the movie wasn't so widely marketed. Maybe they were just testing the audiences to see how it would be received. No idea. Still a mystery to me. Even at the time we watched it there were no movie reviews or anything, just a few comments either saying it was a really good movie or that the movie was very racist 😂.
Thanks. Someone told me about this a while back, when I post new videos (if that happens) I will definitely pay attention to this. Thanks for the reminder.
If you mean with black characters I will need to look into that. I've only ever seen movies with black extras but not a main character in the movie. I can take a look though!
Sigh, this movie looks like it was made in 1987, the "Soul Man" era. But maybe China is just 35 years behind. I'm assuming the black actress isn't actually speaking Mandarin, and they just dubbed her in?
Oh no, that's definitely her speaking Mandarin! Usually you can tell when it's dubbed because the sound is very off--like doesn't match the person's face, but the Mandarin sounds just like her voice, it's also clear she has a bit of a foreign accent.
this movie caters to the Chinese mindset stereotypes, so you are not qualified to judge it for Chinese movie watchers, the fact that such a movie was made at all in china actually indicate that such mixed race couples are becoming quite common. the directors of the movie must have felt that there is enough interest in the lives of mixed couples to make a movie that sells.
I'm not Chinese so of course my mindset is different, but imagine a movie talking about tropes in China directed at a US audience. Can a Chinese person not make a review about it? Of course they can. :)
@@thisischaniecethey would have a heart attack if an American or African made a movie like this using negative and offensive stereotypes about Asians. They would b protesting in the streets and crying on social media.
