I'm always surprised when fotki people remember me 😂. But yea I dabbled in Chinese in high school and then decided to major in it in college. Came over to China and never wanted to leave.
Chinese is dirt hard diffcult. There I said it as a Chinese person. So much easier with English only needing A - Z ( 26 letter ) and can make a sentense. Try doing that in Chinese with so much different words. 😂
Unfortunately tutors or/and italki are too expensive and the Internet with language exchange partners are full of pervers who send you the photo of their penises then will learn speaking in exchange languages so I prefer to learn languages with AI 🤷
I understand the pain of non-speaker for learning an tonal language where as most languages in the world. I am a native Cantoneses speaker, so learning Mandarin tones is easy. Cantonese has at least 6 tones. Mandarin is nothing. The Chinese language could make it to world language anyway.
So racist, so disappointing, these people love to animalise us, depict us as inferior fools who have no manners. Oh and of course we're rude and ugly because of our melanated complexions. It's so idiotic!! We're reduced to stereotypes of dancing and singing, which is just pure idiocy.
too be honest living 8 years in a country is more than enough to become fluent in the language. sadly some immigrants live way longer in a country but can still barely speak the language, i notice this is because some people dont try to learn the language of the country they moved to, and they only link and mingle with other migrants from their home country this way they never become better at the language of the new country and only mainly keep speaking they mother tongue, this is how you stay behind in a language! if u wanna learn a language u should focus on having to converse with the locals, at work, social events, daily life etc. just natural way and you will learn and become better ande eventually become fluent.
Hi Chaniece - Great video! I had three years of Chinese in school so I speak moderately well. I agree with pretty much everything you said here. Especially #9, Chinese is not hard! It's pretty easy! I would just re-emphasize something you said - do not skimp on learning the tone of each word. It's not a shortcut - it's a way to end up confused in the long run. On the other hand, if you do learn the tones well, Chinese people will tell you you speak so well. I have one thing to add: It's a little bit difficult to use flash cards for vocabulary because there are only two sides and you have to learn three things - the character, the pinyin and the English. I figured out some workarounds that let me quiz myself on all three things. Anyway, congratulations on moving to China, learning the language and making it work!
Honestly, it’s disgusting to see you defend the Chinazi regime on your Twitter account. Don’t ever leave China, stay there, for good! We don’t need your type anywhere else. You’re on the wrong side of history but too blind to see it. 再见👋🏼
I think the fact that neither of these people are Americans or even Western makes a huge difference. They don't have the same qualms with these things that Americans do. If you go to the film's reviews, you will see that A LOT of Africans love this movie. It's a very different perspective, to say the least. I find a lot of similarities between Nigerians and Chinese, to be honest.
I would like to add this - "black face" being racist is because of America because of the history of American entertainment using exaggerated depiction of Black people for comedic purposes & to showcase how "uncivilized" Black people are. Now for Asian countries like China when they try to portray a Black person it is not the same as American black face - in China it's literally just portray as another person or to imitate & not as a racist act like Americans.
It doesn't have the same historical context, but I am quite sure if they saw a film with someone who painted their face yellow it would be offensive. Just need to 换位思考 right? :)
Sigh, this movie looks like it was made in 1987, the "Soul Man" era. But maybe China is just 35 years behind. I'm assuming the black actress isn't actually speaking Mandarin, and they just dubbed her in?
Oh no, that's definitely her speaking Mandarin! Usually you can tell when it's dubbed because the sound is very off--like doesn't match the person's face, but the Mandarin sounds just like her voice, it's also clear she has a bit of a foreign accent.
As far as accepting the reality, I’m Chinese and I know based on American standard, Chinese men are not that good looking or attractive. I have to accept the reality. The difference is Chinese are outspoken about how they see you in china while americans all say politically correct things while thinking differently.
