The first Topps set - not what I thought

The earliest days of Topps are often thought of as the 1952 Topps set. I. reality, the 1951 Topps Red Back set is a great little option but lacks some big cards to bring as much attention. Even before that is the set I recently discovered thanks to the RU-vid community in the 1948 Topps Magic Photos set. It's a short video to show just a few cards for your reference of the sets.
Big thank you to ‪@ACollectorsDream‬ , ‪@MrJmangini‬ , ‪@vintageoddballcards6103‬ and ‪@Bluejacket66‬ for always bringing the education and introducing those of us in the vintage world to new unique and lesser known sets.

Thank you! I feel like I am learning almost every day about something new, even though it's quite old.

Ah yes, the 1948s. I've been catching up on your older content and you fit right in with the vintage guys around here, obviously. I can't hang with any of this stuff, but I share your passion for the foreign and oddball releases and vintage "rainbows" and parallels. Quick growth channel right here, guys! Great stuff, Aaron!

@@blixcards you are far too kind, my friend! I just love the community and knowledge in the vintage RU-vid world. I am working on some more digging through boxes for 50s and 70s stuff to keep with the theme.

Yeah the 48 Topps is a funny little thing isn't it. Can't go wrong with another Hornsby. The 51 Yogi is kind of their first to me. Still want that one day. It's a win win with it being Yogi. 52 Pafko is just a classic and will always be a favorite of mine. Nice video

@OC-MC_Joe thanks, Joey! You need that Berra. Do you have any of those 48s?

No don't have any 48s. Maybe one day down the road

Never knew about the 1948 Topps cards. Topps had two baseball issues in 1951 though: the red backs and the blue backs. Topps also produced a non-sports card set in 1952: the Look N See. The most valuable card in the set is baseball related though: the Babe Ruth card.

@stevegallo8483 yes, good call on the 1951 alternate option. Look N See is a neat set. I have a couple from that set as well. The Ruth is definitely the best! Thanks for the additions to the list.

Those '48s are crazy. So small!!! The football side has a Chuck Bednarik rookie which is pretty cool. There's also a Jesse Owens card, though that is very expensive. Thanks for the info!

@Bostnfn very cool! I am just diving in on that set so a lit to learn. Appreciate you sharing!

Love the 48 set. Wish I could go back in time to spit on them and develop them. Spit wasn’t gross back in the day. People were tough! 😂

Great video. Didn’t know about the 1948 set. This very cool. Topps also had the 1951 team issue. I like it because the Dodger card has an early Jackie Robinson on the team.

@@MarksDodgersCards thank you and that is great to know. I will definitely have to check that out too. I have the 1949 world champions exhibit card, which is a really great card as well. I will check out those team issues for sure.

This month I picked up what I consider the very first HOF rookie card in a Topps baseball set. I purchased the Monte Irvin 1951 Topps card. It's also a Lionel Carter Card. Technically the 1951 Bowman is considered his rookie, and I don't know why the 1951 Topps is not considered his rookie. Anyway, great video!

Thank you! Appreciate that insight too. It is amazing how some of those cards get classified for sure. Sounds like a great pick up though.

I agree Dan, that has never made sense with the Minoso Topps. It's a RC to me, hands down. Nice card!
