"There are no large airlines restricted from airspace" Iran air in USA El al in Iran
@Terrekain
@Terrekain 5 лет назад
Yeah, this video is very misleading. For one thing, it is misleading to identify the ICAO as some kind of authority on international flight. I understand he doesn't say it's the source of legality, but that's why it's misleading....the ICAO doesn't authorize or enforce whether an airline can land or take-off from a particular country or locale....the sovereign country or locale does. Woe to any pilot or Airline operator who thinks otherwise, we all operate in the real world; the "Ground control" is King, not the "international" bureaucrat sitting in some office which actually has no jurisdiction and who nobody listens to. These are not "Laws", and identifying them as "Freedoms" makes it seem like it has some hardened legal prerogative that everyone in the world must follow - nothing is further from the truth and real pilots know that.. Real pilots know better than to take these "5 Freedoms" as laws...they're more like guidelines; customs. Yes, you can "expect" and plan around these generally-accepted guidelines, which is important in any industry including the Airline industry. But it is a real danger to just ASSUME that you are ENTITLED to these "Freedoms"?....YOU ARE NOT. At any time, everyone from a local Flight operator or ground controller to the President of the United States can countermand ICAO - ICAO messages and advisories (that's all they are) might be part of someone's pre-flight checklist, but not everyone's and their authority is "Nil" if your airboss says it is. This is for practical reasons...centrally controlling the airline industry is madness. On 9-11, for example, the Chief of operations at the FAA made the call to ground flights everywhere in the US and its airspace. The US Military also made airspace restricted in foreign countries - and those countries such as Germany or Japan had no practical say in the matter. American Aircraft carrier battle groups - who usually let airlines within a few hundred miles of their airspace control in peacetime - extended that restricted zone to near a thousand and redirected airlines and vessels on different courses. ICAO neither had the relevant information to act timely, and had no authority to countermand any of this- effectively, every flight in the world regarding the United States airspace around the World was grounded or re-directed. If there's one person who can order edicts as to how and where international Airlines can operate around the World, it isn't the Secretary-General of ICAO.....it''s the President of the United States.

they are technically allowed but with the economic sanctions , most airlines just avoid that area altogether unless it's china-registered airlines. Plus it's more efficient if the flights to the US goes over RU or SK.
@WorldView14
@WorldView14 7 лет назад
No. For example, from the US' regulations - SFAR 79 to Part 91: "Prohibition against certain flights within the Flight Information Region of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea 1. Applicability. This rule applied to the following persons: (a) All U.S. air carriers or commercial operators..." Short answer, no commercial ops are allowed over NK by a US airline, anybody with a US issued pilot's licence, or anybody using a US registered (N- reg) aircraft. I'm sure EASA and such have similar regulations.

Couple of things: 1. The 'overfly fees' are actually called navigation charges. The most expensive navigation charges in the world are: Switserland, Canada and singapore. 2. Freedom 1 and 2 are granted with each other. 3. The 2nd and 5th freedom NEVER are granted together, the 2nd freedom is granted to every country as it involves safety reasons. The 5th freedom is granted only after long negotiations between two countries. 4. The 7,8 and 9th freedoms never come together either. Taking the open skies agreement between the US and the EU contains the 7th and 8th freedom but not the ninth. This make european airlines unable to fly on the very important Domestic market in the US but does allow US airlines the right to fly from any US city to any EU country and then flying 'domestic' within europe for instance: JFK-LHR-FRA and back again. The ICAO doesn't have much to do with these freedoms though as they don't make laws. The ICAO only makes suggestions to the FAA (federal aviation administration) in the US and the EASA (european aviation safety association) in the EU. They make the laws then the counries themselves need to play the role of law enforcement.
@krizzzyyyt
@krizzzyyyt 2 года назад
5. Norway is and always has been part of the European Common Aviation Area, but does not however as stated in the video after; Norway does indeed not enjoy the freedoms of agreements the EU has made with foreign countries such as the US etc, unless included as part of the ECAA / EMAA etc.

You could say that the EU is something like a country on many points. 1. The Aviation Freedom is like the EU was a country 2. You can go from Germany to France and don't have to pay roaming fees for the Internet/Calls/SMS on your Smartphone 3. We will have unified Copyright laws in a few weeks 4. The EU has its own ccTLD (websites with .eu) and an Emoji 🇪🇺 5. No border controls. You can easily drive from one state to another. 6. No duties: You can sell Spanish pork in Denmark with no fees. 7. We have a Parliament and European Council with a Government (European Commission) 8. TAX Laws. With minimum and maximum TAX which can be given. 9. Trading deals with other countries as a big EU. 10. i gotta correct you mate: Norway isn't in the EU, but it is in the EEA. they buy access to the same agreements that EU nations have with each other. also - there are Nordic agreements (Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway) - preceding the EU, which guarantee's access between these nations markets on all levels (except of dangerous substances - drugs, alcohol, tobacco and fire arms).

Loving your videos, especially the airline ones as I work in travel, you're doing a great job of making this complicated industry easy to understand! Love to see a video about the evolution of the ticketing systems - as somewhat of an insider, I understand that it began as a very very manual process and there was a lot of competition in the early days of moving to electronic systems but nowadays just a handful of systems remain which dominate the market entirely. *cringe* but as an African I have to be THAT guy and point out the mis-pronunciation/spelling of Addis Ababa (not Abada) and Etihad (Not Ethihad). @layalumpar4218
@layalumpar4218 5 лет назад
That flight has a SYD-LAX segment so it's 8th freedom. But actually, it isn't 8th freedom even because Qantas can't sell tickets for the LAX-JFK segment. Granted, US allowed them to connect passengers from their BNE-LAX and MEL-LAX flights into that LAX-JFK segment, and vice-versa, but that's not enough for it to be called 8th freedom. For it to be called 8th freedom, the US must allow Qantas to sell tickets for LAX-JFK and JFK-LAX segments.
