My favorite power chords are very Megdaeth. The first being the chromatic use of the major third, and the second is the spider chord. Which is more of a technique than a chord, but I still think it's a fun way to add excitement to some otherwise lackluster power chords.

Some power chords that were left out are chords involving a root-third interval, such as playing a major or minor third one string up, or playing a root-5th power chord with the index finger moved one fret down (which is basically an inverted root-3rd), which I call a ".38 Special power chord".
@HermelJaworski
@HermelJaworski 6 лет назад
Very cool video Tyler! There's is also the "The Edge" Power chord, variant of the EJ one, played on the G and B string (eg 12th and 13th fret), and that you can extend (12th on G, 15th on B)

That sus4 power chord is also used in the theme song for Top Gun. Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone". You refer to is as a stacked 5th so now I know another name for it. Thank you for all of your teaching. You rock!
@sadman5916

Depends on the musical context that you use it. I guess you could think of an inversion of a normal powerchord, or a sus4, like you said.

I think stacked power chords can also be used to play bar chords like in a drop tuning, (barring only the sixth and fifth strings). This is useful for me if I want to play chuggy drop A power chord riffs but still staying at E standard. tuning.

yea.. Incubus was second band that came to my mind about this type of chords.. the first what I imagined was Last Resort by Papa Roach.. I know that they are playing it in drop D with different holding, but the sound and notes are actually the same when you play it in standard this way.. I think it's better to play it in standard D in every way, it's surer.. with drop D that does not feel really great when you have to hold powerchord from the second string + somehow the bottom string
