FILM DESCRIPTION:
Worlds collide in "The Flash" when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian... albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

Thing is his motivation isn’t to stop Zod it’s to save Supergirl and Batman. For all we know he defeated Zod multiple times but he couldn’t take the L of Kara dying and rebooted it again. That honestly works for him being a dark reflection of Barry’s desire to bring his mum back

I love the concept here. A macabre portrait of self-destructive obsession, the time traveler spending his whole life losing the same unwinnable struggle, slowly destroying himself with every attempt. I especially love that his "armor" is just the accumulated Kryptonian shrapnel that's been fused to his body, piece by piece. And the line I love the most is "I've got it almost figured out." How many times has he told himself that and lied? Great concept, but the writing here wasn't finished. What he's trying to achieve in this scene changes every time he opens his mouth. He attacks Barry. Then he asks for his help in another attempt. Then he says HE'S the one who set these events in motion, for reasons not explained. Then he tries to kill Barry. This was ALMOST a good scene, but the storytelling is fundamentally flawed.

That’s the fundamental problem with Time Travel and what Bruce explains. You aren’t creating an off branching universe with the same past but a different outcome at a specific point thereafter. Changing the future ALSO changes the Past because Time moves **Both** ways, not Linearly in one direction. There is not Forward, there is no Backward; There is only Time. . Therefore, it absolutely makes sense. It’s a Bootstrap Paradox. Dark Flash was created when he pushed Barry into the wrong timeline, guaranteeing that Barry would create the Dark Flash by pushing the Alternate Barry to the brink of Sanity. It’s the idea of the Book of Time Travel. A book about Time travel is found in the Past, which is then used to create Time Travel. Later, the person who creates Time Travel must leave the book in the Past so that his past self can create Time Travel. Where did the book originate from, however? Who created it? Technically, it’s just being left by the same person in the past over and over and over and over and over again. But where did it all start? We cannot know. Essentially, the Book was always there and always will be there; It is paradoxical yet fixed event in Time. The book is required to make time travel possible, but the book has no origins anywhere in all of time and space. It just is.

he needed to create himself. i think he was sweettalking barry by saying "oh its alright, just join me and i win". but then barry says "no screw you" so Dark Flash feels like he has no choice. and to him, barry's a relic from a different timeline anyway. every villain wants to believe they're the hero. that and he's probably gone nuts, hence the villainy.

But this story is REALLY sloppily handled, because the Dark Flash creates BOTH a Bootstrap Paradox AND a Grandfather Paradox, despite them being literally mutually exclusive!(Depending on whether the Novikov Conjecture is accurate or inaccurate... maybe some other time). He self-causes his own origin by knocking Barry-1 out of the "chronoball" and setting in motion the events that turn him into the Dark Flash. But then he self-PREVENTS his own origin by killing Barry-2, his past self, and thus wipes himself out of existence. He literally creates AND destroys HIMSELF with COUNTERACTIVE PARADOXES! And for that matter, Barry-1 and Barry-3 (Dark Flash) BOTH self-prevent their origins. But why is Barry-3 INSTANTLY affected by this, vanishing from existence, while Barry-1 is completely UNAFFECTED by it, still retaining his powers, memories, and physical equipment from the timeline he has prevented?

@@user-pm6nx1fs2w No it’s not. “Normal” time travel is Back to the Future, the idea that if you go to 1985, everything will be exactly the same up until 1985, and then AFTER 1985 everything changes. That’s not how it works. By changing the future, you also change the past, so changing events in 1985 also changes events in 1,000 BCE.

I like the idea that Dark Flash has such a difficult time defeating Zod and his men. Helps to show how impressive Superman is. He did it all on his one. 1 Kryptonian vs at least a dozen and he managed to defeat them all. Whereas The Flash, despite being much faster, could not do it. Because Barry doesn’t have the other abilities that Superman has. Just imo.

I honestly think a really cool move would to hit someone with a supersonic punch, and since Barry’s so fast, run around the earth for a super powered one, and just keep doing that on repeat. He’d be able to do it like 7 times per second and the villain would get screwed over. Barry’s arm would also heal bc of his healing factor (he heals at super speed)

@@bennettr9218are you that ignorant of how hollywood vfx shops operate vs how big studios operate? Bad VFX are VERY RARELY the fault of the vfx artists. They are usually not given enough time, or are given notes by people who think they know better and as contractors they have no say. They have to just execute according to the vision of the producers

This version of Dark Flash shares many similarities to Zurg from Pixar’s Lightyear; both characters are futuristic and villainous versions of the hero, and they both are obsessed with their own goals to the point where they don’t care who gets affected. Not to mention they both had great concepts that were not executed well.

@@SC-vz3ml I say Dark Flash had a better concept, because he was basically a fallen hero who was willing to put himself through so much pain and mutilation just to save his friends. Zurg on the other hand his concept was good, but it felt like a “jump the shark” moment, and he only cared about fixing what didn’t need to be fixed.

I loved the film, I who am not a fan of DC films and the DC universe in general, apart from when it's Superman and Batman who are the juggernauts of this universe (always favorite marvel personally) make it recognized that this film sent me a lot of nostalgia in my face to see Micheal Keaton, George Clooney, Christopher Reeves again (even if it's not the real one) then Erza Miller whom I didn't like personally in the justice league whether it was Snyder Cut or the normal version but I loved it in short one of the only DCEU movies that I loved it has the merit of at least burying the DCEU in a good way in my opinion 😊.

I'd like to think that Barry did take out Zod a few times, but then some other random things happened to kill Kara. Maybe in one timeline, Barry knocked Zod into his ship, but the force of the explosion killed Zod and Kara. In another, he gave Kara a victory hug and stabbed her with all that shrapnel. In another, they made it back to Batman's home but then Kara died of a heart attack. Just nonsense every time. Think of that Doctor Strange What If episode.

Thawne was originally part of Snyder’s vision. From what I’ve heard apparently the Reverse Flash was supposed to be DCEU’s Thanos not Darkseid. I don’t know that’s just what I heard so I could be wrong.

Man, this was really rough for Young Barry. He's here with two different older versions of himself. First, he got to know Original Barry who told him he's destined to become a superhero. And now, he finds out that he was on the path to becoming a terrifying villain. Two possible futures of his and before his sacrifice, he had a short moment of wondering which path version of himself would be his fate.

Different stuff, and the whole "his mom dying" wasn't always his canon event, it was a retcon on the 2010s, before it, Barry grew up in a normal childhood with both his parents and still did got his powers at an adult age, and became a hero because its the right thing to do, not because of a tragedy (that made classic Barry from the 60s comics unique, now its just the same as the other heroes/vigilantes, driven by tragedy).

So the Earth gets destroyed no matter what. Even if they kill Zod, because they messed with it, the Timelime itself gets ruptured, destroyed. Like the Dark Multiverse. The Flashpoint timelime in all its variations is a Dark Multiverse always doomed to be destroyed, even in the comics.

The Flash is a great movie for me who hasn't watched the tv show but seen the animated movie. Social media really ruined it for everyone by crying about Erza Miller's crimes which were overblown by the media.

Exactly! Though I agree with the hate for Ezra, I don't get why people can't just enjoy the movie instead of letting their personal feelings about the actor cloud their judgement. It was a good movie, nothing out of this world and has some downs but overall enjoyable.

@@supergv2235 I disagree, and I'm a genuine Flash fan. Ezra as flash was average but there's PLENTY of good stuff from the movie that made it enjoyable. The problem with most people who come into the movie is that they seemingly want to hate it and use every little criticism they can find to over hate it. Like I hear people whining about CGI and I didn't really notice the issues because I am an individual who can sit and appreciate a fun movie without over criticizing every little thing that is easy to ignore. 7/10 movie nothing exceptional about but a fun watch.

@@supergv2235 If you're coming into a movie forcing yourself to enjoy instead of naturally doing so, it may mean you already had some sort of bias which may have had you overanalyzing the movie to find things to critique it. I saw something similar with the saving babies scene. That was just supposed to be a fun scene playing around with Flash Time, but I see so many people criticizing this scene because they feel it's like a plot hole with the Flash being generally faster or the needing food to move fast, it wasn't supposed to be that serious. The movie made a lot of creative decisions that make me wonder why it isn't appreciated more. Like their explanation on time travel and it's connections to the multiverse was pretty good and different, which allowed the Flashpoint to diverge in amazing ways. Bringing back Michael Keaton who was never boring to see. The change with Supergirl and the reveal that Zodd killed Clark as an infant was tense. Flash electrocuting himself like the animated Flashpoint movie was an awesome scene. They didn't completely rip it off either and had Supergirl after realizing Barry's determination, carried him into a lightning storm. There's much more this movie did that I can argue to defend the movie but I think this is enough and if you are telling me these points are not great stuff from the movie then I don't know what to tell you. There were things I really didn't like which is why my score can't go higher than a 7 but still great stuff.

If you think about Evil Barry deeper. I have a feeling he actually successfully killed Zod at some point or stopped the world engine. But because of the lack of justice league members to deal with Darkseid and Steppenwolf invasion. He must've become very desperate to change the future outcome even further. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually solo'd a lot of armies before. The Flash movie had good visuals but the story somewhat feels rushed and doesn't make sense. Him saving his mother caused Kal El to become nonexistent or Aquaman not being born feels illogical since Barry or his family has zero connection with any of the Justice League members. Like seriously how come him saving his mother caused Kal El that was born in another star system would die.

I liked the movie I thought it was decent there was a lot I would have done differently but seeing Barry solo a Kryptonian was amazing although I think it would in reality also have broken his hand when he stopped fazing with his hand in the kryptonian's chest. But overall I liked it

too bad Dark Flash didnt enlist the help of Dr. Strange in figuring out which actions will give him the successful outcome, I mean Dr Strange looked over 1 million plus different outcomes to save the world. Dark Flash was doing it the hard way and actually going through each outcome. So theoretically, he might have been close in finding the actions that would give him his ideal future.

Even though the Dark Flash was barley in the movie, he seemed to be a better concept of time traveling hero becomes villain than Buzz Lightyear becoming Zurg. But the Disney+ What If episode of Doctor Strange did it best of all.

No, Savitar is not Barry in comics; Also, it’s the garbage Non-Canon ((therefore worthless)) CW Flash show that uses Savitar. This movie is in the Canon DC Cinematic Universe and it’s quite literally Barry Allen himself from an alternate timeline who goes mad trying to fix the mistakes he made with Time Travel. It’s The Dark Flash. Not Savitar.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 released almost 10 years ago and still had wayyyyy better visuals and CGI than the flash movie, u might wanna go back and re-watch tasm2 tbh it's easily one of the best movie in terms of CGI and visuals and if u think it's any worse than this movie or is in the same league please consider getting ur eyes checked I mean seriously u might actually have some problem

"I've got almost figured it out". He's probably said that to himself not only to comfort himself but to give himself some confidence into believing that he can save the world from Zod, despite failing God knows how many times throughout the years. Each time he says that he's got it almost "figured out" it is nothing but a lie and he's in such denial over the fact his world is meant to die and he completely loses his sanity and became unrecognizable overtime with everything being caked onto his body.

@@godemperorofmankind3.091 Yeah, but with the variety of rogues, couldn't Warner Bros work in another Speedster villain like Thawne or Hunter Zolomon without taking directly from CW's Flash with Savitar. He's even a scarred faced version of Barry, like Savitar; you think with how they hired the guy who revamped Pennywise to do the Flash, that Warner Bros would try and do better at something they supposedly do. But hey, these are the guys who gave the finger to Johnny Depp before the verdict was reached between him and Heard, and are canceling/shelving their successful content to save a couple million. Clearly, their priorities are in the s-tter.

The more you think about the plot, the most stupid it becomes. Dark Flash is Young Barry from the future, which means that he can interact with other versions of himself that aren't from alternate timelines... So why can't he just raise an army of versions of himself to defeat the kryptonians. It's kinda like the time reminents from Arrowverse. You keep going back in time, gather multiple versions of yourself and repeat the process until the threat is dealt with.
