The Forbidden Kingdom: Mustang Adventure 🇳🇵

■ MARPHA, MUSTANG: Nepal, although geographically a rather tiny country perched up on the Himalayan plateau, sandwiched in between India and China, is still home to countless older Kingdoms. One of these is the ancient Kingdom of Mustang which dates back all the way to 1380 and wasn't fully merged into Nepal politically speaking before 2008.
Although it doesn't technically exist as a sovereign state anymore, and it's capital Lo Manthang was in Upper Mustang, it's borders extended past the little town of Marpha, whose ancient Thakali culture is very much alive today. Religion, customs, architecture and food have been remarkably well kept alive here in all its glory.
Some of the buildings in Marpha, although of modest construction, contain materials that are 400 years old. The city is also home to a Tibetan community which adds to the history on full display here.
All this is of course absolutely fantastic as international travellers are able to get a peak back in time as to what life, culture and architecture was like in the Forbidden Kingdom of Mustang hundreds of years ago.... and that was indeed my goal as I boarded my 14 seater airplane in Phokara bound for Jomsom.

Just seeing Apple Paradise, the owner Kombla comes across as so genuinely hospitable and so much love put into her shop. That alone, makes me want to visit Marpha, all the way from New Zealand. The architecture of the city is so beautiful, the streets so clean. Perhaps one of the most beautiful small towns shared with us on YT for many many years.

37:49 Mustang became a part of modern Nepal in the 1700s, when King Prithvi Narayan Shah initiated his military campaign resulting in modern day Nepal. During the campaign, some kings who peacefully agreed to come under his kingdom of Gorkha were given special local rights, whereby they could rule locally as king, but the kingdom itself would be part of Nepal politically. When Nepal became a republic in 2008 and the Nepalese monarchy proper was abolished, the last surviving mini-kingdom within the larger Nepali kingdom was also abolished.

Man, Harald.... you must have really charmed the daylights out of the owner of Apple Paradise. She gave you the master chef experience. It's incredibly sweet and hospitable of her. She seems to be an awesome person. More power to her. That place seems amazing. I really like these wholesome and deeper interactions alongside intrepid exploration. PS - I wish the best of luck to that business owner with the shawls, accessories and trinkets. She was very professional, accommodating and amiable.

Started watching your videos from the class 8 and now i got high school graduation. Now, Iam going to have 3rd comment on your videos. Even , many Nepalese can't afford to travel and visit country, so i got youtubers whi are fulfilling me to see beautiful Nepal . One thing i just remembered is that when i was first watching your videos .I used to remember your RU-vid name as Hari Bahadur .One of the legend of Nepali comedian.Because , i felt your name is too hard for me . Harald Appeoves ❤ .

Thank sir Norseman Harald for your awesome images from Marpha village. I remember walking to this village in another life. This village was the center of a main trading route not long ago. People were rich traders. You can tell how rich is the achitecture and wood working doors and windows. I remember there was also a runing water undergroud systeme. If you are curius wil walking in the river bed you could fine ammonite. I past there in 2000 after thorungla and i was on top of rhe world. Today you give all these awesome souvenir back to me. Merci Harald.

OMG Harald. This Nepali series is blowing it out the sky. The scenery at this town is so beautiful. The people equally so. The lady at the cafe is a gem. I so want to try that apple wine, you have no idea. That tray of food looked incredible. So much history and culture in every stone there. The hotel you stayed at looked lovely too. I loved the almost open courtyard effect when you went in with the wooden stair case and balconies. The rooms looked pretty decent too. You have done an amazing job putting this place on the map for sure. Clean safe and astonishing views and people. The guy smoking made me laugh, I remeber the time the chap who took all your sun cream had you smoking in his house... so funny. Now remember people, as we heard from number 1 fan... like comment and subsribe. Happy travels Harald.

Many people travel to central and western region !!! Very Few people travel to mid western region !!! The infrastructure is not so good but the views are amazing!!! If you are travelling often to Nepal then I would suggest you to explore Khaptab National park ,Badimalika ,or shey phoksundo lake !!! It’s difficult route and lacks facilities but if you get proper information about that place you will discover a different landscape!!!
