A quick correction, at around 9:08 I said that the Evos we drove had heated and cooled seats. It actually only had heated seats (both front and rear), but cooled front seats are available on other models. We regret the error, but not quite as much as we regret the fact that we didn't have cooled seats when we filmed this video. Also, we reached out to Ford regarding the audio issue described 2:37 and they said the issue wasn't present on production versions of the Evos. Our test car was a pre-production model, so this type of glitch is to be expected.
There's a few downsides, especially the lack of high power and high displacement engines. But I agree there's tons of innovation happening while other markets feel more stagnant.
I was surprised to see this isn’t an electric car, it looks like it should be, it has a Mustang Mach E / Mondeo mixed look too it. Wish the world would move on from the SUV look now, they just keep getting bigger and bigger
I feel like this would sell in the US based on looks alone. Ford could position it the same way Toyota positioned the Venza, not a direct competitor, just a stylistic and luxury upgrade model.
when ford america can make huge benefit by just selling those old looking and low tech cars, they don't have the guts to invest money to cars like this. chinese market is way more competitive
I think American buyers aren't as enthusiastic about large screens. I've heard lukewarm responses to the large screen Toyota is pushing in their larger models, simply because it's impractically large. And similar things about Ford's vertical screen in the F-150 and Mach-E.
Great video. The 1.1m screen is a good one, Byton EV was one of the first to pioneer the idea, however, Ford has executed this brilliantly. Another observation, from the side, it looks a lot like the Mustang Mach-E.
Not the first time nor will it be the last. The German BBA and VW has been doing it for decades. Japanese car companies have done just the same. It all boils down to the market and financial aspects
One your website, it says ""Wheelsboy"(车轮哥) is an affiliate of Shanghai Xingao Cultural Media Co., Ltd,". Does it mean you joined a MCN in China? And do you own the Wheelsboy brand? or the MCN owns the brand? I'm sure you are aware what happened to Liziqi李子柒. She didn't publish any video for a year already due to ongoing lawsuit between her and the media company. You should have full ownership of the brand.
That’s a good question, and I appreciate your concern! Shanghai Xingao Cultural Media Co. is not an MCN, it is the name company that we started here in China and it owns the Wheelsboy brand. As the other commenter realized, we are also not owned by AutoHome. We are an independent channel. You don’t need to worry about any issues with the brand being taken away from me or my team, as this is our company and we own it. I’ve seen a lot of people build up channels and have them taken away due to the kind of issues that you mentioned, and I have no intention of letting that happen to me or my partners. I’m lucky to have a small but dedicated team that I work with who all put in a ton of effort to grow our channel, and we’re not about to let it be taken away from us just to make little money in the short term.
Too bad we won’t get this in North America. Chinese cars have way more tech in them than what we get in North America and if it cost 35-40K there it will probably cost 50-60K here due to labor costs and greedy dealers which would make it non-competitive. I like it a lot, but wish it were electric or hybrid at the very least.
About that shifter… you must have not stepped foot in an Expedition, because it’s the exact part used in it. Pretty common, but a rookie wouldn’t know these things.
this design looks great and a budget friendly. unlike the other models like this is only available on luxury brands. ford gonna surpass other companies if they release it around the world. nice review man. I hope it would be available on Philippines also.
I don’t know what’s going on with manufacturer’s these days, big screens but no rear wipers. Please put rear wipers on cars………also Rumour has it, Wheelsboy employs team of professionals to wipe his rear.
I think the answer is simple, big screens can drive sales in countries like China, but rear wipers won't drive sales in any market - buyers don't notice it until after they've bought the car.
Crazy that Ford didn't bring it to the US to replace the Edge. It's based on the same C2 platform as the Escape, Maverick, Focus and Bronco Sport so it can definitely produce it stateside
Would you consider doing a video about breaking down the entire Ford lineup in China? I've been trying to research it online and it's incredibly confusing.
Question - Why on all/most of your videos are the roads completely empty. Is the way it is or do the Chinese insist on you only showing empty roads with stages used? Always looks staged but would be interested to know. No response equals yes haha...
We film in the suburbs of Shanghai specifically because there are fewer cars. Imagine trying to film car-to-car footage in downtown New York and you’ll understand why we do this. Also, there’s nowhere to park a car and film in the busier parts of the city, which another reason that we film in the less populated suburbs.
I think Ford should add more engine options to the Evos, and AWD. Yes, it’s gonna cost more with AWD and it’s gonna get a little bit worse gas mileage, but come on.
@@faeinthebay Back in the day, many car journalists said that the Evos was supposed to replace the Mondeo and Fusion in Europe and North America, but Mike Levine from Ford said that the Evos is for China only. If it was sold in Europe, I think it would come with a smaller 3cyl Ecoboost, and hybrid powertrains used in the Ford Kuga/Espace. An ST version would be nice too.
Great video. We've just had the hottest day ever here in the UK, so we know what you've been going through. So wish Ford would build this at Valencia with a hybrid powertrain (say the 2.5 PHEV from the Kuga), as it would be an obvious replacement for my current Edge.
Nahh... the real car news and market is in China with more manufacturers and countless models that will make your head spin big time 😅. Their cars are more new and modern with cutting edge technologies. Big and world level IT companies like Alibaba, Ten-cent, Baidu, Huawei etc are part of their car industries eco system. Computers-on-wheels is so yesterday, it is Smartphones-on-wheels for them. There's a reason why there are so many foreign car reviewers in China... Even Sandy Munro talks Chinese cars...
Awesome car review as always. I just drove a new Ford Eco sport not too long ago and I noticed that the transmission had awkward tuning as well. Working on uploading the car review to my channel soon. Anyways, when braking it tended to hold the gears for too long and as a result it felt like the car was working against me. Then when coasting it tended to downshift almost immediately making it slow down too quickly. Haven't tried to reach Ford but hopefully they can work on their programming. If I review any other Fords I will try to pay more attention to see if they behave similarly.
Reminds me of the upcoming Toyota Crown. I think that and this Evos are very good looking and would love to see PHEV versions. I wonder also if the Evos might be the same as the rumored Fusion Active (hopefully) coming to the US?
except for the flat vertical front if viewed from the side, great looking car. good thing, the car industry slowly going away from the sedan. my car is a sedan and suddenly realized how space inefficient and little utility .
Most people don’t need a car anywhere near this big. Especially given that wagons and SUVs give up a ton of efficiency compared to a well-designed sedan.
