Funny thing you chose 'Aitor' as the name of one of the Estonian forefathers, since Aitor is the mythological ancestor of all basque people.
@Eastory
@Eastory 6 лет назад
It's intentional, as it is meant to symbolize the Pre-Indeo-European population of Europe.
@enekotartun

Eastory Really interesting video ! But why to choose Aitor if he came from the "Balcan genetic pool" and not from the "Basque" Pyrenee refuge? Really brillant video !
@Eastory
@Eastory 6 лет назад
Thanks! Aitor was to symbolize the Pre-Indo-European people of Europe. As Proto-Basque is the only well-known language spoken in Europe before the arrival of Indo-Europeans, we chose the name of a fictional patriarch of the Basque people to represent them. The choice has less to do with the genetic ancestry of modern Basque people, but more with their culture/language.
3 года назад
yes and the meaning comes from Hai tor as the Armenians call themselves Hai of Hai-astan and Tor means grandchild or offspring...The Basque are the tors of the Armenians..see the works of Robert Ellis...and others...

Hi from a Chinese person with Y-DNA haplogroup N (the main marker of Finno-Ugric / Uralic peoples) lol. I'm a descendant of Kalev too :')
@amanb8698
@amanb8698 2 года назад
Hap N originated in Southern China thousands of years ago and then it split from Hap O. Hap N was brought to Northern Europe via the Urals by Siberian reindeer herders migrating in. Hap NO is an originally East Asian Y DNA group but the N part split off and is now both Northern European and East Asian.
@user-ce6iy2nw5o
@user-ce6iy2nw5o 2 года назад
i think majority of the chinese are cousins of kalev as in haplogroup NO. something major happened with kalev and his cousins, perhaps a conflict and then kalev decided to venure northwest. you thought descending from kalev means that you probably have ancestry from north china or siberia?
@YummYakitori
@YummYakitori Год назад
@@user-ce6iy2nw5o NO separated from one another about 38,000 years ago. After which N underwent a strong bottleneck period and most are now descendants of the N1-L735 branch descended from the same male ancestor 18,000 years ago (except N2-Y6503 branch predominantly found in the Balkans today, among Serbs). So I'd say O is not so closely related, but N1 is fairly close. O is extremely common in East & Southeast Asia (>80-90% of the male population) today, but we are left with only less than 5% of Haplogroup N in most areas of East Asia.
@YummYakitori
@YummYakitori 7 месяцев назад
@@Toivo58479 I am actually from Singapore, but of Chinese ancestry because my great grandparents migrated from China to Singapore about 4 generations (~100+ years ago). Actually some earlier studies have placed the origin of Haplogroup N in Southern China because of the N1b-F2930 lineage which was grouped as N1*-L735 or N*-M231 at the time. However later studies at this point usually place the origin of Haplogroup N closer to Northern East Asia (around northern China). At the moment we have the highest diversity of basal subclades (N1a-F1206, N1b-F2930 and N2-Y6503 which is more common in the Balkans today among Serbs, it was also likely a lineage found in the ancient Scythians). Also archaeogenetic testing to support these findings that the origin of N was likely in northern China rather than the south.

I must mention that sadly not only ethnic Estonians are included in genetic testings, which means that they're a little inaccurate. Besides, it depends where are the people from even inside Estonia. Northern and Western Estonians are genetically more mixed with Finns and Swedes and Southern Estonians with Balts. So percentages may change rapidly depending of the region.

Väinämöinen (from Kalevala) = Väina+maine = Strait+lander Väina meri = Strait Sea Väina jõgi = the river Väina / river Viena There was a meltwater watershed to the south of the Baltoscandian ice shield, which spanned from the White Sea, Viena to the Väina, Vistula, Oder, and to the Straits of Denmark and Kattegat. That watershed moved around as the glacier edge moved around. The seals have adapted to the whole range of that watershed. After the glacier melted away, that watershed formed the Baltic Ice Lake and / or the Baltic Sea (and the White Sea). And one name for that watershed was Väina (Strait Sea), thus the people called themselves Väina+maised. The other name for it was Valg (valg+ala), which literally means a watershed, the english language cognate is Fall/Flow and the finnish cognate is valu. Thus the Baltic Sea and White Sea both derive from the Fall area, not from 'white'. In estonian language, both have the same form: valge valgus valgub alla jõeoru põhja (white light flows down to the bottom of the river valley). The edge of the glacier is what gave name to Eesti (finnic este), Aesti, Estmere, Vistula, Weichelian glaciation. That cognate spans from IE to uralic to ket to native american na dene languages. Where do estonians come from? We are the descendants of the paleolithic Swidry culture from the shores of Väina.

Y DNA N Folks were once very numerous in the Yellow River Area. They were part of a relatively advanced civilization compared to Europe at the time. Chi You (who fits the Thor description) lost the Yellow River Plain in the battle of Zhoulo about 2500 BCE. Forged edged weapons, horses & chariots were said to have been used by Chi You & company. Opponents broke a dam upstream & flooded the valley where his army was camped to break their power. This may have started the migrations of Huns, Turks, Kushans, Cumans & N tribes to the west. The last Tangut XiXia kingdom was smashed 1150 1200 AD in wars. https:pbs.twimg.com/media/C1BZbiJUAAEKMvs.JPG

Note: the R1b to Europe route likely did not involve Western Asia and the south of the Caucasus. Both R1b and R1a likely came directly via Siberia, and that is assuming that they didn't already reach Europe before the R1b and R1a mutations were accumulated. The knowledge of details of the timings would be greatly helped by Eastern European and Siberian ancient DNA samples from 20,000 BC to 15,000 BC.

I think the older R1a was the R1a5 subclade (which I think is extinct or very rare now since 99% of modern day R1a is in the form of the R1a1 subclade). R1a5 was found in the pit-comb ware/Comb Ceramic culture which lasted between 4200 BCE and 2000 BCE. Autosomally speaking, the people in the said culture were 65% "Eastern European Hunter Gatherers" + 20% "Proto-Indo-European-like" (and PIE were normally 50% EHG + 50% something else (something else being CHG or CHG + Anatolia depending on the PIE culture)) + 10% "Western European Hunter-Gatherers". If we break this down only into the HG components then it would be- 75% EHG + 15% WHG + 10% CHG (or CHG+Anatolia neolithic). This would mean that they would be fairly close to the Karelia and Samara EHGs. Here is the source- www.nature.com/articles/s41467-018-07483-5/figures/4 The Baltic_CCC is the culture of interest in my post.

You made a slight mistake, every estonian is a descendent of all five, however the percentages are those of men who have a direct line of men descending from those 5

Kalev intrugies me, I wonder if he is the ancestor of non-chinese asians like the siberian asians and other non-han chinese or europeans? I'm ethnic Chinese and we have a legend about being hunted down for our european features and that many of our brethens went to siberia/europe. It would explain the Fin/Siberian link with asia. I know it's just legend but the DNA thing is very truthful in the history of things.

Esty is a cross between the Balts, Norway and the Saami. (Norway is the least). By the Finno-Ugric, they are related only to the Sami line, no more. Among the Finns, the percentage of crossbreeding with the Sami is greater, and with the Balts it is less, that's all.

I don't understand. Were people with N haplogroup originally mongoloid or european? If 1/3 of estonians carry haplogroup N, which came from Siberia and is supposed to mean that we are somewhat mongoloid, then why on the earth do 95% of us look like europeans from Northern Europe?

Your appearance is greater determined by your autosomal DNA aka recent ancestry within the past few hundred years instead of your distant patrilineal DNA (Y-DNA) which is passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years. I am 100% Chinese in terms of autosomal DNA, I don't look European at all yet I also have Haplogroup N (though very few Chinese carry this Haplogroup nowadays, only about 3 to 7%). :) in my opinion since Haplogroup N originated in Northeast Asia our distant patrilineal ancestor should be Mongoloid / East Asian in appearance. Estonians and Finns today look North European because of European matrilineal DNA and autosomal DNA. In fact there are also other Finno-Ugric / Uralic speakers like the Nenets, Nganasan, Khanty and Mansi who look very Northeast Asian as well.

original haplogroup N carriers were asian but when the N carrier populations migrated to europe over 1000's of years they became what they look like today by mixing with the local populations

A good and thorough DNA-Test costs between 60 to 600 Dollars! With that in mind, people rather waive the opportunity to get to know your ancestors better! LoL
