The fact that we could have had a Spider-man Identity Reveal story that did NOT end with Peter selling off his marriage to the literal Devil just pisses me off. Scew you, Marvel.
Fun fact: the Alex Ross prototype suit from production ended up at the Hollywood Park Family Entertainment Center on display for years in Illinois, before being bought out by a different arcade chain. Current whereabouts of the suit are unknown, but it’s still out there. Awesome vid, subscribed!
Here's one that not many people seem to be talking about AT ALL: Spider-Man TNAS' soundtrack is almost entirely lost, save for fan reacreations and a few songs here and there. In fact, most incredibly, there's a FULL extended version of the original theme song, whose only proof of existence is an extremely low quality recording of an MTV music video made to promote the show from around the time it was airing. Any versions of the "full" extended theme song on RU-vid are just fan reacreations made from scratch, or based on this poor quality recording.
Interesting! Reminds of the first season of the Ray Ellis score from the 1967 Spidey cartoon. I’m a musician, so any topics concerning Spidey and music are of high interest to me…🤔
I am genuinely shutting down mentally after finding out he was involved with the Spider-Man & Friends toys. I feel like once a year I find out ridiculous new information about Gerard Way but this one is really sending me over the edge.
Dude has been around! He worked at Cartoon Network as a janitor around the time of 9/11 What I'm not sure of, is if he ever pitched anything. Imagine that tho
@@RadikAlice oh yeah I knew his previous job as a toy designer but I didn't know which toys he made in specific, I remember the cartoon he was going to pitch "the monkey breakfast" I think, about a magical monkey from a fictitious cereal, I heard he was on a train to pitch it to cn when the 911 happened
The X-Men one was a little disappointing. Cool to see all the characters in blocky quake style but sucks you don't get to play as them. Really uninteresting level design too.
just a correction: the original designer of the "Alex Ross" suit was David Williams. his first version looked fairly similar, but Ross eventually touched up the design and drew the art we've all seen of it. great video! if you plan on doing another one, you should talk about the early MCU Civil War suits, and not the one that was on set that everyone knows. I remember that around the time the movie was coming out, very early concept art and screen tests of Spider-Man got leaked and the suit looked very different from what we got, there was even a hoodie that came out that was apparently based on these concept arts. I very vividly remember seeing these back in the day and over the years I've tried searching for it several times but never found anything substantial and have seen very little people on social media that also remember it. could be a fun rabbit hole to get into
Ah you’re so right! Thanks! :) and yes I seem to remember that exact hoodie you’re talking about. That could make for an interesting topic of discussion indeed!
16:11 the suit hes wearing is very hard to see through (many performers wearing that spidey costume said so) so props for doing skating while barely being able to see
Holy crap, Fudgebudger!! It’s insane to me you’re commenting on this video; I’ve followed your channel for years. Seriously, sick. Thanks for always serving the Spidey fan community with insanely cool finds.🫡🕸️
Fantastic video! There's a good amount of stuff here that I had no idea about! Also no offense taken lol. Honestly my own Spider-Man iceberg videos are in due of a remake since the audio is horrible and I got some info wrong. Anyways great stuff!
That aunt may toy looks like that SNL skit where Jim Carey played Jay Corditch, the guy who did all those electric juicer infomercials in the 90’s who claimed that he beat cancer as a young man by drinking 13 cups of juice a day. Side note, the RU-vidr Ashens has a video reviewing the weird aunt may toy if anyone’s interested.
One other obscure bit of Spider-Man trivia, Ben and May Parker appeared in a comic before Amazing Fantasy #15. It may have been #14 (I can't remember what comic, but I'm sure it was drawn by Ditko). But it was about a month prior to Spider-Man's first appearance. Edit. It was Strange Tales #97
Hey man! This is a great video! Definately answered a few questions I had on my mind and also reminded me of that SHED run. I might adapt that some day, it's a great story
9:00 I had this as a kid. it was disgusting. 35:28 that is absolutely disheartening, to hear the disappointment in his voice is honestly horrific something tells me he did not get compensated at all or credited
As someone who’s read all of Spider-Mans comics, I recognized a few of these by their names « The Spider » referencing to the pre clone saga madness that happened after may fell into a coma and peters parents were revealed to be life model decoys, and then lizard ate his son is def from shed, but I did learn some cool stuff aswell
@@MattsMediaReviews Yeah and good job dude! Your channel deserves to be more famous! This is good content, also I guess I was wrong about the « the spider », because during the 90s that’s what Peter called himself, but anyways good job!!!
@@Bubzee11_Editzthank you!!! yes, that’s right! Back when Peter was only wanting to be Spider-Man and not Peter Parker. He was feeling so depressed lol. Pretty sure that era is *at least partially* directly responsible for Marvel wanting to restart Spidey’s titles via the clone saga
@@MattsMediaReviews yeah, and it was pure mayhem, he had five titles right? ASM, Spectacular, Sensational, Adjective less/Peter Parker after #75 and also unlimited, I dont blame them at all. The continuity was a trainwreck, I remember in the end of an issue aunt Anna found out Peter was Spider-Man and that was never addressed until like a few issues later and it turns out she thought he was joking, but when he became the spider, that was depressing, but atleast he became better when he found out MJ was pregnant, that didn't last long tho...
Love the video man. I genuinely know way more than I should about Spider-Man and related media, but most of these you had on here are news to me. Hope to see more.
This was a well made video. And almost of the stuff you mentioned are truly obscure. Although, you did unlock a core memory of mine when you showed of those "Candy Sticks". I remember those things clearly.
23:27 Funny thing is that, that ain't even the texture used in the game, is a totally different one, the lenses are the giveaway, since they use the same image from the promotional renders for the movies.
30:54 i remember that comics with dock ock when i was 4 i remember that page and aunt may who dies or spider-man who fights against a villain with dardevil 😮 I really appreciate you finding this image 😢
This was super entertaining. I love lost media stuff. Thought id know most of it being a big fan of marvel back In the day but didn’t know even half of it haha. Glad i found your channel
Holy shit, I was just watching your channel before I saw this! Dude, thank you so much! When I first considered making RU-vid videos, I wanted to start out with a video going over why insomniac did Venom’s character such a disservice; then I saw your video and was like “Aw fuck there’s no point now” lmao. Though it was that video that got me into your channel so, Hell yeah!
Yoo I was watching this and thought "How come I never came across this guy, must be some big youtuber looking at the quality" Then I looked at views and subs and had to add one. The algorithm has blessed me🤗 Keep up the good work, my man!
Awesome video man... wish it was longer tho as all of this was really well researched and it's hard to find this kind of quality in vids about spider-man
The thor cutscene lost screenshot absolutely takes the cake for coolest, and most mystifying discovery! It was just a rumor for years and years... I thought it wasn't real, myself, and then 'bam'! There is is from the wayback machine... crazy... Like finding a lost, missing puzzle piece.
I’m 100% a young man, born in ‘07, and I admit, I used to eat candy sticks when I was a kid- but it was after the fhante to just “sticks”, and my eyes widened when I had heard about it. So I guess it’s not as obscure as we thought, just a concealed memory 😂
Great video. I appreciate the covering of Thor in Spider-Man 2. Although I'm surprised you didn't cover Josh Keaton's lost performances in the 2002 movie game and Avengers Earth Mightiest Heroes.
You should totally talk about the Spider-Man and The Masked Menace plug and play game, I had it as a child and I still do to this game, it's pretty fun and there are a couple of playthroughs on RU-vid
Can't believe this is just your third video, watched it all the way and finally some really obscure facts lmao, great video really, hope to see more like that from you in the future! Keep it up man
I’ve recently gotten more involved with Spider-Man content pass the games and movies, this is a great introduction for me great video hope to see more in the future
You just earned a sub! Great work on this video! Watching this made me realize that I probably spent an ungodly amount of time obsessing over Spidey in my youth as well. And yep, learned some new stuff too! Those candy cigarettes are a core memory for me!
I love this video and channel so much and it only has 2 spidey related videos, also made me discover another great channel, fudgebudger, i cant wait for more videos like this!
i'm a big fan of mcr so that story about gerard designing those weird spider-man toys is so bizarre yet so cool and interesting to hear lmao, good video dude
I know! To be fair, I forgot to mention that the story does include a moment where the thunderbolt gazed at a gun for a moment (feeling suic!dal) in the second issue of the story, but, he ends up saying it’s not the way to go. Even still, both that moment and the ending still feel so out of left field.
Amazing video matt, this was fantastic and you did great research. The only thing I would have included in your video regarding the alex ross spider man was the blue screen test footage of Tobey McGuire wearing the alex ross suit during the early stages of raimis first movie. nonetheless, great job man. You gave me nostalgia with those cigarette candies and tattoos. Thanks man.
I have mentioned the Jack Black spidey a few times and each time nobody believed me. I specifically remembered and mentioned Jack shooting webs outta his Jablinski.
@10:40 that's Steve Ditko's inspiration. The character was just mocking teens who read superhero stories to say they could never be a hero without Fing up. The story was an F you to the superheroes ending the anthology 'twilight zone' type stories but it became popular. So the idea is that the kid just wore a Halloween costume
I'd love for this to get a sequel, honestly. Wouldn't want there to be pressure on that since I imagine that this took a bit of doing and the well is only so deep. Special mention does go to the Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights house "Maximum Carnage" and the eternal mystery of whether or not dead superheroes were in it. It was like a proto-Marvel Ruins type of thing. An alternate ending to the then (I think) ongoing comics story
I had some of those spiderman & friends toys when I was young man nostalgia I even played a couple of the VTech games related too the line pretty nostalgic for me
I'm from Poland where the fake cd scene was pretty much everyday life in the 90s and early 2000s and I always had the pre 9/11 version of SM 2 without the bridge. Years later when I bought the original PAL release I was so surprised by the bridge. I was like, "what happened there?"
