Something I find really cool is the mainboards for these laptops work by themselves, and Framework even sells simple cases for them if you, say, still want to use the old mainboard after an upgrade for something like a Minecraft server. I'd love to see someone make a handheld gaming enclosure for it personally

I feel like you missed the best part about these laptops. You can literally upgrade the CPU or Ram yourself and make it a whole different machine. You can put the old CPU and Ram in a cheap case, and have essentially a free mini computer just for upgrading. Make it a PC that you put behind your TV to make your TV a PC for the cost of like a $20 case just for upgrading your laptop. The repairability of Framework laptops is what makes them the best!

I ordered a AMD 13... I wanted the 16 but the wait time is a full year. These look awesome for repairability and upgradability in the future.

no civil notebook is allowed to have more than 100Wh of Battery, not sure though what the laws are if you just dissamble the theoretical battery module away from notebook before going to a flight ;)

If they made an 18 or 17 inch (or maybe even bigger 😬) down the line, I'd definitely get 1! I'd customize it with mechanical kb, a beefy GPU, an OLED display with a High refresh rate, switch out the mousetrack for more fans or even liquid cool the laptop for when I'm gaming! So many possibilities!

There's still Clevo for this requests. Doesn't have swapable GPUs, but otherwise it's pretty well built, modular and repairable.

The 16 is close to 17, but for portability the 17-8 is pushing the limit

@@ContantContact It's the standard for desktop replacements. The portability is basically to be easy to take it with you from home to work (and similar scenarios)

@@Winnetou17 When I was working, the laptops provided were probably 13 inch or so. Smaller than I'd like BUT at my desk was a docking station and two monitors. That is how to do it. Or, one very large one it that is your preference. I don't have that here at home currently, just don't have a desk setup yet where that would work....but I may get there.

@@ContantContact Yeah, I was just arguing that it's not really pushing the limit at 17-18", it's been the standard for more than a decade, for that class of laptops (with now 18" being available, not just 17.3" because the bezels are much thinner, the chassis overall is about the same size)

I have a framework 13 with the beefier ryzen processor and its actually a lil powerhouse. Exactly what I want for my use case. However if I was in the market for a more powerful gaming laptop I'd be saving up for a 16. So much promise.

Wish I could get away with a 13, I ordered my 16 a week or two ago. Just need RAM, it's basic, but I figure I will update the GPU later down the line. I don't NEED one, but want one some time down the line.

Absolutely to expensive for a laptop with that CPU and GPU at least right now. hopefully cost will come down in the future. my issue is there lack of commitment/clarity on future GPUs.

Their being vague on the GPUs because they don't wanna get sued like Alienware who made that promise. They can't guarantee nor deny if they going to be future GPUs Upgrades. It took them a very long time to get AMD on board. So it gonna take them awhile to build up more of a reputation for other manufacturers to jump on board for frameworks vision. So it best to just wait it out before making a decision.

I mean it's a direct comparison to something like an XPS, or other business class build of laptop. So the price is right in line tbh, still high, but it will hopefully have less issues than something like an Asus gaming laptop.
