The Franklin Standards offers a model for K-12 science education that seeks to restore the principles that propelled American science to glory.
Presently, science education in American schools is mired in superficiality and activism, and is failing to prepare future generations of scientists, and the scientifically literate citizenry that will be essential for securing America's future as a prosperous and free republic.
The Franklin Standards is a project of the National Association of Scholars, with help from the Freedom in Education Foundation.
Three of the group that crafted the Franklin Standards recently sat down at Cornell University for a conversation. Randy Wayne is Project Director of the Franklin Standards, and is Associate Professor of Plant Science at Cornell University. David Randall is the Franklin Standards Project Coordinator, and is Director of Research at the National Association of Scholars. Scott Turner is a member of the Expert Committee that drafted the Franklin Standards, and is Director of Science Programs at the National Association of Scholars.
