What did you all think? Is this the fake amp to rule them all?

Soundswise, it's really good, although I'm going by a Dollar General bluetooth speaker, so reality's mileage may vary.
@gwugluud

I'm not sure if it's "fair" to cite a paid vst, but IMO, "Amp Room" by the dev "Soft Tube" (sic..?) is my fave, soundswise. Particularly the Fenders and Voxes, I can dial in/nail the cruddy, disgusting, rebellious-sounding "edge of distortion" sounds I need in order to perpetuate the 1 and 1/2-chord "I wannabe 1966" garage rock "songs" I do.

Great rundown! I think I agree it might have the slightest edge over ToneX/NeuralDSP in terms of sound quality/realism. The open source nature of NAM is so intriguing...really feel like the first company to implement this into a well-executed hardware pedal will be sitting on a gold mine! Poly effects is working on implementing it into their firmware for the Beebo and should be available really soon - eager to see how that goes.

Thank you Andrew!! It's definitely close. I have a comparison video coming up, and I'll just say this... the results were actually pretty surprising. To me, at least lol- Either way, it's really cool to see what this technology can do and the possibilities it's unlocking. Thank you for letting me know I needed to check it out.

I wanted to point out something about the cons-- this product is supposed to be for studio usage, so having a less-than-intuitive setup of plugin to website to VST package to folder to DAW, is pretty normal! I think today musicians are spoiled by the convenience of plug-and-play pedals and software, but I think putting a few minutes of thought into how you want to set this product up will help you prepare for recording with it. Gigging with NAM would be cool, but that's specifically what TONEX is designed for.

@JustinMuncy 3 месяца назад
That would be cool!! Not sure about EQs, but there are plugins that effectively do this with compressors, but they're emulations vs captures. It's pretty cool though because you can set your compression settings and then scroll through various compressors to find the one with just the right sound you're after without having to load up other plug-ins!

I really love the convenience of these kind of plugins. Plug the guitar to my interface, and that's it. No outboard gear really necessary. Although I do plug in to a Digitech FreQout first (to get sustain and feedback at very low volume), but that's it.

Nice video man, you got pretty damn good sounds. I've been using it for a good while now. Just to add on the "portability" of it I've also been messing around with the NAM port on the poly Beebo (ig it's open source), and it already sounds great though it's still just beta firmware. It's great though, just a little research on tonehunt and you're set. Fairly futuristic ngl, now you can basically record a fairly pro sounding song with just a guitar and sme cables

@JustinMuncy
@JustinMuncy 5 месяцев назад
I think with plugins, latency issues might have more to do with your computer than the plugin nowadays- But that's definitely a top concern amongst guitarists! I personally didn't notice anything significant until my computer started to get bogged down.

I really didn’t notice anything significant while using the plug-in actually! There’s also a low latency record mode in logic that helps quite a bit.
@micahgerdis1008
@micahgerdis1008 Год назад
I've used logic and Mac to record and I agree somewhat. It wasn't as bad as a lot of other computer daw combos that I've used. Nearly all of my other PC based daw experiences (recording guitar live with plugin active in the box) that didn't have built in DSP processors gave me bad issues with latency though.

Hi Justin.....How do you run a delay or other modulations with this?
@JustinMuncy

Either with plug-ins, or you could run your pedalboard into your audio interface, then into it. Or you could even convert your signal from the DAW back to line level and then route that into pedals and then send it back into your audio interface.

Running a true stereo setup per guitar track + layered guitar tracks for a production. I would print tracks for mixing of course, but when I'm writing and recording parts, I don't want to have to interrupt my flow to bounce down tracks. I run similar amounts with other guitar amp plugins and haven't had this problem-

My heart breaks for you in 107 degrees. That's a no from me... LOL. Well, I've never used the Neural Plugins, but I assume sound wise they have to be pretty similar to what's in the Quad Cortex, and I thought this was pretty competitive. I'll have to hear them side by side, but with the right amp model, the sound quality is pretty darn close.

@rist98
@rist98 9 месяцев назад
Huh? A laptop and a small interface is a lot of gear to lug around to a gig? Dude. It literally fits in your backpack. A full fledged amp and a set of speakers doesn't. Also, if you have multiple guitarists, you can run multiple cabs with this. And you can even have different cabs for different songs even if you're just one singular guitarist. I see no downside to this in terms of lugging gear. Its hella compact.
