Freeda, the Free Mercedes 500SEL, Has a bounce probkem! The rear suspension is trash making this old W140 drive like a tank (not inna good way). Monkey Wrench Mike fixes the problem with a lovely set of accumulators!
Those are Citroen suspension spheres, I know Rolls Royce & Bentley used them under licence but I wasn't aware Mercedes did as well. You could have used Dragons Blood Mike, the name we gave Citroen's LHM fluid (liquid hydraulique minérale). It's much cheaper than paying through the nose for rebadged Mercedes fluid. Have a great Christmas, from the UK.
Happy Christmas from across the Pond Mike. Nice job and I do like how you show 'warts and all' unlike so many YT Channels that only show finished perfection. And have a safe and prosperous 2022 mate!
If the instrument cluster turns out to be defective we have an excellant company in my area that refurbishes them. MB, BMW, Volvo, etc. Price is very reasonable and it will look and function like new when they are done.
You answered my question right there about the CH11 fluid, I was amazed Mercedes had a different one! Good work on the accumulators, satisfying job that I need to investigate myself. Have a wonderful Christmas Mike!
I don't always see. I don't always see when I see what I see. Taking a deep breath, opening my mind wider, digging deeper, learning more, being careful where I share my trust. Might make for a better day. Why? Because? I don't always see when I see what I see. Bad is a part of good. I'm working on a better day, are you? Sincerely, Jekelex Happy holidays.
Nice MIKE! You know, the color(s) (two tone), nice wheels & paint makes a nice looking car. Appreciate you sharing what you do with the fleet with us (YOUR loyal followers!) Thank you!
Wow Mike. A fix without complications! Merry Christmas to you and your family! P.S. I got my MWM stickers a few days ago. Thank you so much. Can’t wait to detail my 2 trucks to put them on. Love ‘em. Ok people, order your stickers. They are so cool looking. Peace
Dealer screwed up. ADS suspensions in w140 and r129 are supposed to use hydraulic fluid, 343.0 spec. the 345.0 spec is for ABC suspensions only found in the 2000's cars like the w220 and r230. The old part number/correct part number fluid is still available. You can even save money and use febi 02615
Merry Christmas MWM. Love these videos, they make Mercedes seem a little less scary with all their quirks. Not sure which Shingles vaccine my mother got but she said the 2nd shot was a doozey so plan for a few days off afterward, still better than getting shingles!
I’ve made a playlist with all of the older videos for all of y’all new people that haven’t seen the car! Marry Christmas mike! ru-vid.com/group/PLtKmjja56sa4AiWYiWOSp53VoHMWK_bl7
First, Happy Christmas and best wishes for the new year. Second, nice update to Freeda, liked it a lot and also that another project is finished. Third, 2022 is a fine year to try new stuff e.g. painting a whole car in your backyard, I myself am very fond of a red pig style w140. Fourth, 😁😁
Did I detect the starting gun being fired?!.....that you're thinking of selling Freeda to presumably make space and help fund 'Project Bentley'? Good luck for whatever you have planned for 2022. We are all rooting for you....maybe not Karen so much!
I wonder if mine are shot too, its hard to tell because i can't compare them to a known working system. It rides pretty good but i wouldn't call it amazing.
If I remember right a doctor told me that shingles is an effect of having had chicken pox at some point. I never had them or mumps or measles. Do all those big boats come with that load leveling system? Merry Christmas and happy new year Mike!
I have to do the accumulators on my 600SEL as well... do you think it's possible to do this with a pair of ramps instead of jackstands? I've got jackstands, but I don't know where to lift the car properly without damaging something... cause the jackstands go where one normally would lift the car.
Oh là là! 1950's Citroën technology was eventually adapted by Mercedes after attempts at compressed air suspension failed. Could the Mercedes hydraulic oil the same as Liquide Hydraulique Minérale, the uncompressible mineral oil used in Citroën? It is rumored that Mercedes never paid the licensing fees for the technology to Citroën. Shame on them.
