I feel a reason the Americans were being paid more than the Aussies was because they were so far from home. There needed to be incentives for American soldiers to commit to traveling halfway around the world to be stationed in a foreign nation, which at the time the majority of Americans opposed. The Front covered Puerto Rico's involvement in WW2, specifically the 65th Infantry which was a racially segregated regiment where only1/3 of the soldiers spoke english. Can you imagine being in D Day, getting shot at and getting orders yelled at you in a language you dont understand?
