I recently hacked my X100s to get more film simulations, including Classic Chrome, Acros, Classic Neg, and custom LUTs like neon noir. I need to write up a tutorial (stay tuned!) but keep the camera on the shelf, it honestly breathes new life into the thing what you can do with customizable film sims.
O that’s very very cool. I ended up buying an x100v at an amazing price with 700 shots on it, the evening before my trip. I’ll be shooting with it all month in Australia and love it so far.
Hey Philip! Could you elaborate on this hack you’re talking about? I have the original x100, not the x100s, but having classic chrome and classic neg on it would be a game changer. Thanks for your answer in advance!
I will give you a virtual cookie if you reply to this when you have tutorial for it, newer film simulations are pretty much the only thing i crave from newer fujis
@@Herqq I know, right? I really hope Philip answers eventually, because I’ve looked everywhere online and couldn’t find a way to get new sims on older Fujis. This would be a real game changer.
are you talking about the thing you can do in Lightroom where you can use all of the fuji film sims or is there actually a way to get into the firmware and use the newer film sims in camera? If thats the case im very interested.
I have my late dad's black paint X100 he bought in 2012. He took about 25,000 photos with it. I have an X100V, but I'll *never* sell it. It's a memory of my old man. And let me say, I shoot it exclusively in Mono+R, +1 to shadows and highlights with a 20% cinebloom filter. It's perfect. My daughter uses it a lot. My only rule is she doesn't lose it.
I have a silver X100 that was bought for me by my late mum who recently passed. Just picked up a teleconverter lens for it from Japan. It will be staying in the kit in memory of mum.
@@Introspectiverider99 It's a Teleconverter lens that screws on made by Fuji. They have made two versions now. I have the version one and had to import it from Japan.
It's crazy how Fujifilm is having it's boom right now. All their gear has skyrocketted in price and I'm constantly seeing videos on the X-E1. It's kinda funny to see the hype since throughout college I was the Fuji hipster with the XE1, XT1, and X100S. Now everyone's hyped for those again and justifiably so. That original sensor is just so freaking good. What made me sell the X100S and later X100F was the lack of a flip screen. I just can't go without one
I fully agree with the "hipster" association. I never really gave Fuji cameras the time of day until recently. The lack of flip screen isn't a deal breaker for me as I primarily shoot with the viewfinder but I can understand the situational uses of one. Having a flip screen would save me from awkwardly squatting for those low angles. Cancel Reply
@@TheWeddingGuest. Yeah I shoot a ton from lower angled and I'm tall with not the best knees LOL But God I miss that OVF and the size. My XT2 just doesnt hit the same
Great video. I've had my x100 for several years now and it's sill one of my go-to camera, yes it's old and slow but I'm fine with that, I really think its the images this little 12 megapixel camera can produce, many say because it uses the old Bayer sensor, that could be true, there is something about the colors that I don't see with my other fuji cameras. I also love that it has a built-in ND filter how convenient that! I've printed 16x 20 even 18 x 24 and the images look great. There is so much hyped that has been made on the latest model, when older cameras can produce great images if not better. Enjoy and thanks for sharing!
I bought an X100 prior to 3 months of traveling Morocco, Portugal and Vietnam. It was a great companion and I really fell in love with the hybrid electric viewfinder. It really started my love for photography again and now I managed to get my hands on an X100V so I sold the X100
I have this exact camera for 13 years now, still love it! Perfect camera to speed down a bit. See it more like a classic film camera. Think a little bit more before taking a shot. Then it will reward you with beautiful pictures. Thanks for the nice video 👍
Best one Fuji made, period. I bought 3 of them for peanuts november of 21 . Update firmware 2.11 and its a different camera. 12mp with a matched fixed lens is better than. Interchangable according to internet and i believe it
i have had the X100 for 10 years ... my take is its B+W is its party trick ... put it in b+w and just shoot and then things happen ... as for focus just press and hold and it just does its own thing! its so dated but when you twist the dials to achieve a shot .. and it comes off ... its very rewarding.
I got an x100s a few years ago. It’s a great grab and go camera and very inspiring.. I’m always impressed by what I can get out of it. And sometimes old tech and slowing down is a good thing. Great video. I love to see more from you on this topic..
I also had my eye on the X100V, but I opted for the X-T30ii and it's so beautiful. Looks the same, has the same sensor, it's a year newer than the 100V, and I can change the lens, but I keep a pancake 27mm f2.8 on it at all times.
I own this camera since 2013..and never felt I needed to upgrade to a newer Fuji..some of my best images which have been in galleries have been with this little camera..great buy!
Same here. I combine it with my 7D fit with a 70-200, and I have enough. The Fuji is great for anything I need, usually. And it's pretty. Money well spent (back in the day).
Totally agree! The original Finepix X100 is a very good camera. I use mine with back button focus. I've a page about it but can't link to it, so here's the text, if it's of interest to you. In 2014 I bought a barely used Fujifilm X100 and case for a very reasonable price. Unknown to me, and the seller didn’t go out of his way to tell me, it was from an early batch that had an infamous problem that became known as “sticky blades”. In their early mirrorless days Fujifilm messed up a few times. Apart from the company making absurd claims about the focussing speed of the X-E1, Fujifilm’s R&D department overlooked faulty shutter blades in the original X-100, and the sensor in the X10 that turned small areas of bright light into weird “orbs”, or “…the peculiar circular, hard-edged appearance of clipped specular highlights” (DPReview, 2012). I haven’t used my X100 extensively as yet-it lay forgotten in a drawer as some gems do-but it’s likely I’ll be facing the sticky blades problem at some stage. Until then the 2011 X100 impresses me. My style of photography means the focussing speed isn’t a problem. Nor am I bothered by close focussing softness and 12MP images. Even today the X100 would be a useful travel camera, but I recently discovered its used price is now almost twice what I paid for it in 2014. And if you’re after the X100V (or its successor) you may have to wait. If you’re getting the original X100, make sure it’s not a unit from the batch manufactured with those bothersome sticky blades!
My X100 had this problem (most images were over-exposed) but I brought it back to Fuji several years later for repair. They replaced the lens and it’s been perfect ever since.
The X100 is a very good camera for it's age. True, it's not the fastest camera but I don't use it for sports, action or bird photography...I have other cameras for that. 12 megapixels is good enough for 8x10 prints...how many people actually print images or even that large? And finally, many people shoot film which is a slower process than using this camera...I'm one of them. Photography should be fun and enjoyable not stressful and fast paced. I think too many people are too concerned about the latest and greatest gear.
There is a way to get the new film looks from Fuji software. There is a way can change the exit information of the photo I shot by X100 to X100V. Then I put these photo into Fuji raw file converter. I can use all kinds of film looks. That makes my X100V more attractive!
Mate liked and subbed cheers. When the X100 was released I was obsessed, I had to have the camera, I had Nikon and Canon DSLRs and a swag of film gear but this wee Fuji had me pining. Sadly back then I had two kids, a missus, and other commitments blah blah, so I managed to squirrel enough together for a used X100, this was just after the X100s landed. Anyway I soon found the X100 pretty sluggish for what I wanted, so as soon as the T came out I bought that, then killed it in a flash flood, thankfully insurance replaced it with the F, which last year I gave to my old dad, he loves it I miss it, so I've just dug out my X100, see if the loves still there haha. Looking forward to making a few shots with it.
Thanks for sharing man! I still haven't found an affordable Fuji...but best believe I have my eye on the classifieds. Glad you've re-kindled the flame.
Good video. The older Fuji X cameras are fantastic, I own the X-Pro1 which is incredible. Point of contention, the X100 is not a rangefinder. It’s rangefinder styled. 12mp is more than enough if you know how to get the most out of the camera.
Great point. Ive personally never owned a true rangefinder camera ad just did some research. I see that this camera doesn't operate the same as a true range finder. Thanks for the calrification!
@@TheWeddingGuest. if I didn’t say it, someone else would ;) I shoot the Leica M9, and the experience is reasonably close, sans the rangefinder patch. You can use the X-Pro1 zone focused and just use the OVF for framing…. But for focusing you need the EVF.
Still have my X100 (sold it, then repurchased it) I don’t use it any more however, it’s on my camera shelf! Since then I’ve used XPro2, XT3, XPro3, now switched to Leica. Nice video!
I have a Canon 70D with 4 lenses, flash, tripod, and as a hobbyist, that works for me. Also, it shoots 1080 video which will blow your mind. If you need it in 4K there are settings to get you close and a software program to upscale 1080 to 4K and I can’t tell the difference. You can pick them up for a few hundred dollars used. The lenses are off brand but they look great to me.
i had this camera 11 years ago, used it for 4 years before upgrade to F, i think i still can handle the speed, since back then that cameras was very fast in my experience, lol, brb looking at local marketplace
Yoo I've never KW look so beautiful before man, great review, wanted the x-e4 (i also found some other options like x-e2, x-e3 and even the x100) and theyre all above 1000. But I've been saving up hopefully I can buy myself a camera sometime
I own this camera as well. It is beautiful. But it never will be my favorite. 1 lens, not for me, But this camera still we own his price, so you bought it cheap, perhaps in a few year the price of this classic camera will go up. Again, perhaps the most beautiful camera I own, and I have a lot.
For its uses, i love using this camera. I feel like I take my time taking photos. I have newer and easier cameras to work with but i find myself grabbing the X100 everytime
I think the x100 is more of me, I don't take pictures for money just to capture the moments of life; even with the outdated tech I'm 100% fine with that. The new thing I learned is that this camera has a viewfinder and that's something I looked at for awhile. I'll be looking more into finding a good price but at this time I'll still use my pentax mx-1 as my daily driver.
The original is basically an analogue camera with a digital sensor and can be used as such. It slows you down and offers a filmic look. The later ones are little computers. In my opinion, with many pointless features just to sell the product by giving the customer more.
Great point! I just did a test with a Prograde V60 card, and a Sony Tough V90. They both take roughly 4-5 seconds after taking an image to preview that recent image. It gives you a loading circle; I think this is minor issue is related to the cameras processor.
I found myself in the same situation of yours, I really wanted the x100V but I wanted quick, so I foundthe x100 with a good price and I'm so in love with it. The files are good for what I do and I can stick in my pocket. I also like to ask about the photos you showed us of you edited the raw files or any particular setup in camera?
I bought the X-E2 at the start of the year. It’s old, but still a really great camera. I was in the same boat as you with the x100v, just too expensive and impossible to find for a decent price. Maybe I’ll get one in 2033. Lol
FYI Fuji no longer offers repairs on this camera and a quick search will show you how often the shutter breaks. Great camera in its time, but I'd stay away and at least go for the s or t models.
Using a mist filter is a start (marketed as Tiffen Black pro mist, Moment cinebloom emt) will give you a soft “filmic look”. They diffuse light sources/highlights in your image. Secondly, I like to add a bit of grain in Lightroom. That right there gets you a pretty film like look. Good luck!
I didn’t buy it from here, but the one I have is very similar. I got it off an old point and shoot. www.henrys.com/5637218060.p?style=New&gclid=CjwKCAiA2fmdBhBpEiwA4CcHzcgkr72QECBSveGKXplM8Wvifm_ZoZKbvGU-aCfa5W_aRikuOdqcaBoCsugQAvD_BwE
@@TheWeddingGuest. I recently got the X-S10 and absolutely love it! Although I can't compare it with the X100(V) or whatsoever, I was able to get a fine-enough kit with 2 lenses, and am pretty impressed about the results :)
I recently saw this model @ 850$CAD on Kijiji. This is a scalper's price for those fools whose money burns in their pockets. They deserve each other. Cameras are no longer working or artistic tools. Nowadays, they are fashion statements.
I own the X100S, but don't buy the original X100, it is less than satisfacrtory e.g. its autofocus is one example, buy at least the X100F if you want at least some of the modern-day features.
bro are you taking the photos or is the camera doing it for you !!!??? why dont you bay pantax k1000 film camera and learn what photography reraly is !!! its not technalogy ia the emotions you get from the photographs !!!!
