My father have this camera for years and considers this as his favorite. Before he passed away last year, his last words for me was to take care of his cameras. Been using this since then and now i know why this is his favorite, it really is a great camera and the results are really superb.
I sold my X100S five years ago and got an XT10 then an XT4 and have just bought another X100S - for twice what I sold mine for 🤦🏻♂️. Such a good camera - easy to carry, no faff. Great video btw!
@@thefilmdaddy Yes! In the end, I sold the X100S again (for the same as I paid for it). While I love the pictures and how portable it is, it was obvious that I got better pictures, faster camera response and nicer photo taking experience from the XT4. And I realised that it wasn't that much harder to carry the slightly bigger camera. Fujifilm all the way though!
I use a X100F. Got it to shoot street content, and for just general purpose photography on the daily. I now use it for all my client projects and basically anything and everything, from shooting warehouses, to portraits. Fuji seconded a revolution with this tiny pocket sized camera, and i just dont find that joy and convenience of shooting on anything else at all. Also, Subscribed :) Because seeing you talking about photography, would be something i'd like to see everytime :)
Thanks Vink! Just subbed to you as well! So glad to meet new photographers on YT making content. And yes, Fuji really made something special with the X100 series - I mean they basically haven't lost any value after all these years.
I had a xiaomi 13 ultra which I absolutely adored. It got me back into my love of photography but kept getting distracted by the phone aspect of it. Eventually I had to Send it back to xiaomi. Fast forward to now when I was gifted the x100s. I have only taken few pictures but as of now I'm in love. I love how tactile it is to use and adjust. It's been so good to finally get my diabetes in check because of photo walks. I don't think this camera is leaving my side.
@@thefilmdaddy Absolutely! I was taking too much photos with my Fujifilm and the colors are really surreal compare to my Sony 🥹 I can’t believe that they made such a beautiful camera in a compact size. Tho AF is slower compare to my Sony but it taking me more time to focus, compose my subject before taking a shot which I love. Thanks again!
I once took my x100s to the other side of the world for 3 weeks, together with my D700, and the latter almost never left the bag :) That Fuji is just so good and useful tool.
I just don't know if you can go wrong with any fujifilm camera from at least the last 15 years. They are just... amazing. Great video mate. Loving that you're loving the x100s after a decade!
Great video as always. It's the emotional connection that elevates a camera from just gear to something greater, and that really came through in your vid. Interested to see what the future holds with the new sensor and the X100 lineup.
I just picked up an X100S over the weekend for my first Fuji camera and I’m in love. I don’t feel like my camera is slow or sluggish as mentioned and shown in this video, but maybe because my shutter count is only at 2,000? I think I lucked out with this purchase, immaculate condition, great price, and is so much fun to shoot. Completely different shooting experience from my EOS R5.
You definitely lucked out don't worry! The camera is only slow by modern standards - the newer models focus a split second faster, and load the menus quicker as well. BUT the X100S still is an incredible camera, so those were 100% nit picks on my side (I had to come up with some negative things 😂)
@@thefilmdaddy yeah no worries, I appreciate your response! I think it’s hard to find anything wrong with this camera, just gotta remember it’s 10 years old now! Back then im sure it was a riot.
hey Justin where did you purchase it from. I’m in the market looking for a Fuji camera but prices are up there along with the chance of them being used and possibly having issues
Thanks for sharing I have the x100 original and still use it occasionally. Its slow but takes beautiful analogue looking shots. The ND filter is fantastic. I did buy the X100v and have since sold it. Too sharp, I prefer the filmic look which i also get from my XT1
That's interesting that the new X100V was too sharp for you! I feel like modern digital cams are way too sharp and crisp. They are almost clinical in their look, so it's a pity that the X100's are heading that way.
Great video! I bought mine 10 years ago as well and it is still my favorite camera as well as my go to for travel photography. It's small enough to pack, stylish enough to go everywhere, and it's low light capabilities are INCREDIBLE. Great video reminding me I don't need another camera when I start to get that itch ;)
Yes to everything above! And the low light is even more incredible now with the new Lightroom update! Glad you are happy with the X100s. Who needs the VI?
Now I’m guilty that I left my X100T with my mom in Calgary 🙈 it’s the camera that really made me fall in love with photography, and I had the canon 6D back then… that says a lot 😅 Beautiful video as always! Go Brendon 💪🏼
The whole X100 line up is just amazing man. I feel sorry for your X100T, you should ship it to me and I'll show it the time of its life 😉 🤣 Jk, but I couldn't agree with you more on that they really make you love shooting.
@@thefilmdaddy haha my mom is apparently using it, so that’s good 😂 Although, unlike you, I had problems with the battery life. Probably because it’s what I used to make manual Timelapse of my paintings/drawings that took hours to finish, and I had it plugged in so it wouldn’t run out of steam. I guess that worked up the battery a lot 😅
Never has a camera review video almost brought a tear to my eye 😂 A little beauty of a camera and some very lovely shots too man. Cheers for all the info it has some great features I didn't know about, hopefully I can give one from the X100 range a try sometime soon.
Ah thank you so much y'all - so glad you enjoyed it and got something out of it ♥️ I highly recommend anything from the x100 line up. These cameras make shooting fun!
You answered my exact question! I bought a x100s two years ago and admittedly I haven’t learned how to use it well yet. but when I shoot a poor photo, it makes me question if it’s me or the camera, and therefore the question: I need to upgrade? So thanks for your video as it helped me to answer these questions.
There are a lot of non classic chrome recipes available for xtrans 2. There is a Google sheet compiled by Henri-Pierre Chavaz. You can filter by sensor type and base. Love the x100s. I use focus and recompose and haven't missed much. The colours when combined with a polarizer is pretty special.
Great point Rahul! I have only used a handful of those old recipes for the Xtrans 2, but I never felt like they were all that great. Maybe I should go back and try them. Also a huge fan of the Fuji colours oh my goodness, probably best in the game really (besides film).
Sick video, I used to shoot the Fuji x100s and I miss it so much. However I just picked up a XPRO-3 doe EDC and I am beyond stoked to use it! Love the vibes here, SUBBED.
Great review. Fantastic images I originally bought the 100s secondhand. The images were beautiful. I then bought the 100F secondhand with the intention of selling the 100s In my opinion the images from the 100s have something special about them. So my advice is go for the 100s and you will not regret it. 😅
That's so interesting Richard! New isn't always better it would seem! I always thought I was missing out not upgrading, but the 100S hasn't let me down yet - and for that it has my loyalty.
Pulled out my old X100s the other day and transferred some photos for posterity. Was expecting to be amused by its pixely photos, but could not believe how clear and stunning some of the images were. Even pixel peeping revealed no crappy artefacts. They made a home run with this camera.
They struck gold with these beauties, and I think they are well into the mine at this point. I can't believe this camera is +10 years old and still holds up so well.
1 the lens in the x100 series changed just with the V model 2 you can still use the Fuji weekly receipt, but you're very limited. 3 my personal opinion, this camera is a monochrome beast, i love the output of the JPGs 4 autofocus is terrible, but if if get use to zone focus, then the problem is solved ☺️
Great video. I have had my X100S since launch and could sell it now for more than I paid for it, but I keep it as it is still fun and compliments my Sony A7Riii that is for sports
nice a new video. 💪 If a camera can work for 10 years and deliver such results it is absolutely worth it. I'd rather buy an old x100 than a fat DSLR, too.
It's really an amazing camera man! Fuji literally got it right more than 10 years ago. Thanks for the kind words as always. And thanks for the video idea 🙌
How does RU-vid/Google know? This video popped up after my walk today. Prior, I dug out my X100S which I also bought in 2013. I just wanted to shoot some pictures. I have more than one camera, and lately, I have been using a Canon M6 II-which is a great camera, but not sexy. It was so much fun using the X100S again. I really enjoyed having those wonderful tactile controls on the Fuji. The results? Beautiful and very sharp (especially when you go above 2.8). Thanks for your review.
Definitely worth it, ive got mine second hand from my friend about 230$ full set back in couple months ago. Love the in camera JPEG, but prefer shoot RAW like always. Love the design and the subject not distracted by the size when i shoot street photography. By the next month i bought the used TCL ii, cost me almost 200$. The only thing i hate most about this camera is slow auto focus, but i’ll manage it.
$230 is a steal for one of these! I'm also with you on RAW, film sims are fun but I like the editing process so much. The auto focus has also aggravated me a lot, many missed shots! But I love this camera too much the autofocus is easily forgiven.
I have had the OG x100 since it came out and despite how slow it is etc. it's still my favourite camera. These cameras are really something special. I can't agree with you more about buy any and you'll be happy.
@@thefilmdaddy I knew back then that it was something special because it was so special to use. Everyone loves it and I’ve never had any trouble taking it into events.
Great video. Thank you. I have an X100s that has been sitting idle for a long time and I am resurrecting it. Like many others, I too have been lusting for an X100v. I may still buy an X100v if they ever become available again where I live. After watching your video I will also keep my X100s. Thanks again.
So true Larry! It really isn’t about the equipment. I mean this is an amazing camera don’t get me wrong. But my photos and the process are more enjoyable when the focus is on that.
i had the original one and got rid of it because of the shutter problems, i've burned trough two of them and just lost the vibe. I'd gladly consider getting X100s after your review, 16mpix sensor had it's charm to it.
Great video as always my dude! This camera seems like a super handy tool and the image quality is amazing! I have always wanted to try one, but I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a fixed lens camera haha
Thanks Reimann! Appreciate that man! I hear you, but I don't think I have ever wished for a different focal length when using this thing. It just works across so many situations (and I love the 40mm ish equivalent). I even only have one lens for my Mamiya and it's around 40 ish on the mm as well.
I was really thinking of returning my XT1 that I just received and just getting a x100v when it’s available. But maaaaaan these photos have me thinking twice about letting go of the xtrans ii sensor. I might just have to keep it and get either the 23 f2 or 18f2 to keep it a compact system.
Your videos have been missed Fam !! I totally understand the Henry Cavil reference! I have always loved your camera 📷. Another tippity toppest of video bruchi
Great video! Have you tried adding a Tiffen filter on the Hoage? I read a review saying not all filters are compatible with the hood and if so I was wondering if the Tiffen would be. If not, perhaps the JJC?
Hey Daniel, good question. I have never used a filter on the X100S - apart from the built-in ND. I could be wrong, but I think there is an adapter ring that allows you to mount ring filters onto the lens but it comes at an additional cost.
We recently got an olympus om-d e-m10, but my wife’s x100s seems to check all the boxes. Your video is beautiful and informative and helps us make the call that our tried and true is already doing a great job, and that we probably only need one of this type of camera. May I ask, what editing program did you use on the images featured here?
Thank you so much Zach! Couldn't agree more, there's no real need to keep upgrading every year. We're blessed to have these older cams that still hold up so well. Lastly, I use Lightroom (Classic) for all the images here. 👍
Bought in 2013, I keep mine and bring it with me whenever I need quality, discretion and reliability without having years of local wages on my stomach.
nice video, I also have this camera since 2013. Recently started using it more again and absolutely love it. Very surprised by your remark about the battery though, as that is my main frustration with this camera. I have 3 batteries and most of the time can't get through one day with them. Maybe time to invest in a new (original) battery :)
Many people have said the same thing to me about the battery, which is so strange to me. I only have to charge it every other day and I shoot with it literally almost every day recently. I will have to follow up with a short on the battery life test. But maybe try get an original battery, I still have my OG one from the original purchase.
hope you're still using it. I noticed my X100S is showing an exposure i am intending to take but the final jpeg/raw is a bit over exposed. Don't think its SAB because i have checked the aperture at all stops. Exp/preview in manual mode is also ON. My other X100 finepix, X100T and X100zf don't do this.
Hello all, I found someone locally where I live on fb marketplace selling this camera for $600 stating "Mint condition X100s with original box and manuals." Honestly speaking I'm new to this, its a hobby and I'm no way near a pro and I'm still learning. Is this worth a buy? I do have an old DSLR Nikon D3400 with a 50mm 1.8 and an 85mm 1.8 (which I love!) as well as the two out of the box stock lenses. I'm all ears and open to advice. Thanks!
I haven't seen the camera, but I would say go with your gut. I love this camera, I've had a great time using it. It's more for life, travel, street, and documentary. It's a fixed lens, so that's something to consider, and it's wider than both 50 and 85. If this sounds like something you'd enjoy and you've got the money I would say go for it.
Technically it can, but it's so limited in comparison to the modern simulations and also the Fuji Weekly recipes. If that's what you're looking for, I'd go for the X100F and up!
Thank you so much! I actually shoot raw and like to tweak all the colours myself. But I keep it fairly natural most of the time - try to edit to what my eye sees rather than a specific look.
@@thefilmdaddy I have both cameras. I prefer the X 100 series. It comes down to the lens. 28 mm is too wide for me. 35 is much much better, for me. Others will disagreed. They can either try and find an X 70 or go with the GR3. Whatever makes you happy. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Still enjoying my X100S from 2013 to this day. Spot on except for the battery life. I think it's terrible. :D I have technically superior cameras but a soft spot for the X100S.
It's my favourite digital camera without exception, love it so much. Maybe it's good looks are distracting me from the battery life, but mine wasn't so bad.
@@thefilmdaddy lol.. it is a handsome thing, isn't it? I love that strangers will sometimes approach you asking about it. The charm is disarming and folks are happy to pose for you when asked. But yeah... I have probably 5 batteries for it. :D
@@jeffchin2990 no camera is perfect. A nock i’m all Fuji cameras before the XT4 is the short battery life. The batteries are small and so is their life. This is especially true for the X 100 series because the batteries are so small. I know you need to have several batteries when you go out the door. Fortunately the fix is easy. Spare batteries are relatively cheap. Can you imagine using the battery for the XT4 models and above in this little camera? Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Definitely. If you can live with the slower system, and you just want something to shoot your life with - you won't go wrong with an X100 (any of them)
Great video! Do you think the shutter Speed so fast enough form a one year old? I want use my Smartphone less and am looking for a good cam to start this journey.
100%! The shutter goes up to speeds in the thousands, and the aperture is wide enough for you to get pretty high shutter speeds indoors. I use it to take photos of my kid so I can vouch for that experience 👍 and thanks so much Nope!
Beautifully done. Fujifilm cameras are simply amazing…I’ve never tried an 100 series but they do seem really cool. The ND filter would be perfect to have in the X-T4 🥲
Thank you Nuno! Fuji can take my money any day of the week nowadays. The ND makes such an incredible difference man I wish it was in every camera I owned.
Thanks for this. I've had this camera since it came out and love it as well. Question about the film simulations: I've used Nik Collection software on Photoshop since even before I bought this camera. It's got dozens upon dozens of film simulations. I've always wondered why I'd need to shoot using the "in camera" sims when I can just shoot a RAW file and then use any sim I want? Why and how do photographers (who have Nik, DxO, Adobe Camera RAW, Lightroom) use these simulations? Thanks!
I think people use the sims as a simple way to emulate old films (without the pain of editing them) and because they don't mind shooting in JPEG. I shoot RAW myself and edit all my shots the way I like them, but I have honestly always wanted to experiment more with simulations.
@@thefilmdaddy A good reason for the digital simulations is you can see what you’re going to get in the viewfinder. Yes you can get the digital simulations in The Nik collection software . Shoot JPEG and raw and adjust to taste. Don’t want the digital simulation? Don’t use it and do post production. Your choice. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
That's a great question. It would depend on a lot of variables, but you can get a new one from Fuji for $900. Or you could go to eBay for prices between $500-800. If it's in great condition and $700 It's already half the price of the X100V.
Anything over $800 is overpriced in my eye. Unless it's like the whole kit with a case and all that jazz. But because of the X100V being short stock right now, the older models may also see a price rise.
Having a hard time finding answer to this question: can you convert a color snapshot to a black and white on this camera, in camera? Or do you have to alwys shoot in b&w to get black and white images? Thank you!
You can! There's a conversion you can do in camera, but you have to shoot in RAW. You can even set the RAW files to have a black-and-white filter so that when you shoot it shows you in black and white, but when you import the raw files they are still colour.
@@thefilmdaddy An alternative is to shoot JPEG and raw. The benefit is you can see the image in black-and-white in the EVF and get a “ color negative” raw file too. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
There are! You can use some of them, but because this is an older sensor not all the recipes work or are supported. It all revolves around this camera not having the 'Classic Chrome' preset built in - which a lot of the new recipes are built on.
Do the Fuji (or mirrorless in general) need to be focus adjusted from time to time? It's the only downside I face with the Canon 5d classic. Both of the ones I have back focus and it's hard for me to justify sending it away to correct both the house and lenses. It's a risk and it's costly.
Um forgive my ignorance, but I’ve never heard of this before. This model is a fixed lens, so I’m not sure if that would help… but after 10 years of shooting this thing I’ve never had a problem with focus (except a slower autofocus)
@@gurugamer8632 Okay so these cameras have complicated names... This is the X 100 S - the second camera hence the 's' The IV you asked about was called the X100 F - which was the fourth model - hence the 'f' They are now on the V - which is the roman numeral 5. Who knows why, it's pretty cool though. SO I think the IV or the F came out in 2017.
