When they install a pole it should include a Van Der Graaf generator at the base and hooked up so that sparks are emitted from a contactor at the top of the pole giving the impression of the original power connection to a metal roof.

Great vid,great little show site run about. What they need to finish it off is some rubber conveyer belt as seen in aggregate plants,(most have rolls/cut offs of old from the belts laying about if they asked) that would finish it off and give the rubber bumper effect. Also,when they put the pole on they want to put a small platform for the "fare collector" to stand on. It would certainly make everyone smile at a show!! I want one!!!

When you mentioned that they're going to add a pole I thought they should put a little square of chicken mesh on top and a bumper sticker or something for 'infinite power'. When at a show you could get in, not have it start, clean the contact with the chicken mesh, then your off. :)

I agree I can imagine your friend coming out of the beer tent and hopping into this slightly tipsy and immediately turning sharply and tipping it over. Its pretty cool though.

I don't know what the track is, but I can imagine a pair of flanged wheels at the back in place of the current wheels (spacers if necessary) and a sort of carrier at the front holding that front wheel between another couple of flanged wheels. and then seeing it trundling along say a 2ft gauge railway.

Lawrie my English brother, people have been making them for years in America... I'm pretty sure there was a video out of someone hitting 50 miles per hour on one... it was a bit lower, had 4 wheels and I wanna say it had either a 50cc or bigger motor on it, and a tube chassis

I think seeing a bumper car on the road is possibly one of the few things that are more confusing than seeing a road legal go-kart run past you in the middle of the city! Or, for that matter, six of them with all the drivers dressed up as Mario Kart characters. Yes, happened to me! It might be even more confusing with an electric motor though.

if they did get and fit a rubber bumper, it might help with the roll-over risk. but, please tell them if the roll-over risk remains, please don't fit a rigid or otherwise substantial pole, i cant imagine what might happen to anything or anyone that is in the path that pole if it does go over. a normal lawnmower or kids flag pole ought to be still be quite fun. one thing i can think of that might be in this group, her in the states you sometimes see motorized stools or coolers.

It needs to be taken over to the IoM next year and see what it's lap time would be on the Mountain Circuit - probably the slowest ever recorded. But the fun factor would be off the scale :-)

That's pretty cool. Definitely ALOT safer than what ColinFurze did with a bumper car. Made one for Top Gear and it's the fastest dodgem in the world in 2017. 100.3Mph/161.4Kph. It's a 3 wheeler as well and an impractical screaming death trap. Looks cool but I would prefer driving this because. . . you know. The whole. . . not dying part lol.

Dodgem is the original name for them. "Bumper cars were not intended to be bumped, hence the original name “Dodgem.”" Wikipedia entry for bumper cars

I disagree, if a kid goes to a fair and they have bumper cars, they hit each other with them, they don't drive around in a organized fashion. They are a perfect example of newtons third law, not the DMV handbook:) Also Wiki is not a bastion for truth.

@@lmm You can call it whatever you like, if its common to say "dodgem" over there, then by all means do as you like. However I believe the most correct name is "bumper car" even though Stoehrer may hold the original 1920s patent and was the manufacturer of "Dodgems" under the Dodgem incorporated name. My example........The first Penny farthing was invented in 1871 and was the first iteration of a bicycle, however we now call the most current model of a (two wheeled human powered transport machine) a "bicycle". As time goes on, I believe word-use changes and just as Stoehrer invented the "dodgem" it's modern iteration, the "bumper car" is similar in function but has been much improved in design just like my example of the bicycle.

@@69uremum your grandfather's penny farthing was still a type of bicycle. It's the name adopted to define what something is. You may say that kids try to hit each other, but most set ups ask you to drive in one direction and not aim to hit each other.
