Thank you so much Mike! Haha man Bob was on serious fire that morning. It took us 30 minutes to get to him cuz of traffic and he was sending a different fish pic every 3 minutes lol! Ultra light gear is super fun, especially for targeting our standard SoCal surf critters, most of the time, we're catching cookie cutters so it just makes it a bit more enjoyable. Tight lines!!

Congrats on the Halibut Benjie! I too am hopping on the ultra light surf gear train and it's the most fun I've had fishing. Caught and released an undersized halibut (probably 14-16") from the beach on a 6' Daiwa ultra light rod with 6 lb test and it felt like a boss battle! Keep up the good stuff. Hope to run into you one of these days on the North County beaches!

I love the pop-ups that tell us about the conditions and the fish. I just moved to Ventura County from Texas, and I'm trying to learn how to Ocean fish. Those pop-ups are really helpful, thanks!

I got into a school of yellowfin croaker in the surf using a jigpara slow 10 g zebra glow but lost it after a few fish. First time surf jigging that day and tonight I’m tying on a 10g Rainbow Roll sumo (store was sold out of mercenaries) I wanna know how many other people like using these in the surf, the bite is pretty fun, I plan on getting a halibut with one of these jigs

It's so fun fishing with trout gear in the surf! I hooked and caught a 23 inch hali on my 4 pound trout setup before. Thing felt like I hooked a boat, dont know how i managed to land it. Anyways good job!

Dude, I've heard of a couple stories of guys hooking and landing on 4 pound. IDK what I'd do, there's so much that go wrong lol! But the fact you landed it meant you did everything right on your end so great job man.

@@SoCalRyan204 you can also try San Elijo State Beach, but its more sand to reef, so calicos, maybe a WSB with the halibut. Hit that one on a low tide 2 foot and less

@BenjieKimFishing

Oside, Cbad, and DP all hold halibut. Actually, I think almost every single SoCal beach holds halibut to varying degrees. Just a matter of targeting them specifically. I'd say stick to throwing the Lucky Craft 110 or 115 depending on water depth or a drop shot with a 4" fluke. Start at inlets/river mouths. Regardless of beach, it's a great place to start, it's just a matter of figuring out when they're in close enough. Tight lines.

So I’m in Coronado on the silver strand beach, and it’s nasty, but I got my @Submissionfishing Jig rainbow assassin 15g and I hook something big! Fighting for a while, but getting nowhere with it! All the sudden my reel breaks at the base and it goes crazy. Next thing you know, my line is broke!😢

It's alllll good dude. It's an amazing bite and I know you'll absolutely love it. Finally got back out yesterday. Something about walking up after 3 months and continue exactly where I left off. That unboxing would be cool. When you got the time, let me know and will roll. Smacked some Fall corbs yesterday 😍

Hi Benjie! How long is the surf season in San Diego?
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing 8 месяцев назад
Hey there, the surf fishing season is year long but optimal target species changes depending on season. In the Fall/Winter in SoCal, halibut and perch are probably your best bet.

How fun or scary would it be to hook a 24" hali on the ultra light 😮 🎣. Another great video BKF
@david-iam
@david-iam 7 месяцев назад
Fishing the surf with LC and similar jerkbait, it’s not the halibut that I fear biting the ultralight. Usually you have a good chance to bring them in if you know how to play the fish. It’s the batray and butterfly rays that’s often the problem. Those things usually will result in a lost $18 lure and or/line. 😢

Your fighting your drag. NEVER reel a spinning reel when the spool is taking line......your only twisting your main. Wait til the run is done, or tighten the drag.
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing 9 месяцев назад
You're right 👍 nice observation. Of course I know this but I'm not perfect. I actually tend to do this a lot when I'm using lighter gear ie trout fishing. Just one of many things to continue to work on and improve. Tight lines!
@Salty80556
@Salty80556 9 месяцев назад
Thank you for your kind reply. As you said, we are not perfect. With light gear, I try real hard to lift/pull and keep a bend in the rod, then reel as I lower the rod, keeping the rod bent. In the excitement of the battle, I also forget some of what I know.@@BenjieKimFishing

Benjie in your oppinion, when people catch corbina or large perch on a luckycraft, dp you think it is a territorial bite or do you think they actually eat baitfish?

Bro, UL - up to 5-6gr
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing 9 месяцев назад
Hi Oleg, is this a hard and fast rule? And if so, can you verify? Genuinely curious and if I'm wrong, would love to learn something new. I've always viewed it as a subjective term but the other side of it is I was using a rod that is categorized as an UL. But on the other side of it is that the 10 g I was throwing was higher than the rod rating of 1/4 oz. But if we were to dive down into the nitty gritty, even 1/4 oz is slightly above 7 g so would that mean this rod is incorrectly categorized based on how they rated it? Additionally, the Phenix Elixir has a rod rated up to 3/16 (not the rod I was using in the video), which is actually 10 gram. So in my opinion, I feel like what I was doing qualified as ultralight fishing. But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong haha. Thanks for the comment and tight lines!
