I would add one more to it, documentation is very important you won't remember everything but this will help to you learn more and give more to community

So working on remembering, recalling, and or maybe analyzing data is needed too; is that what you're saying?
@jadyason

I would add Risk Management (for example risk appetite and and control frameworks) as something helpful as to WHY you are doing things. For example: Why do we need a pen test? Why are these findings important and why should we care.
@dccybersec
@dccybersec 2 года назад
Nice addition!
@user-jk8kn3ij8o
@user-jk8kn3ij8o 8 месяцев назад
Can’t say there’s ever been a need or importance although the reason why we should care is because caring provides a layer of security in accordance to respective risk management strategies and promotes proven protections of safety through the better implementation of protocols and procedures as well as applications which helps all of these systems, have a certain confidence in the accountability process of the security of their networks, which can be used for a better understanding or assessment if there ever happens to be a breach of their security systems thought to protect their networks. Therefore allowing for a broader scope of information to allow the cybersecurity practitioner to make better decisions on how and where vulnerabilities may or may not be present as to minimise the risks, with their expertise from a technological standpoint.

cannot stress programming enough because I've heard from multiple people "you don't need to know how to code to use the tools" and whilst true you can be an analyst without programming but your skills will be behind your peers and people will notice, if you're serious about getting into cybersec make sure you have skills in software engineering
@dccybersec
@dccybersec 3 месяца назад
Absolutely! Especially if you're a pentester. Coding knowledge definitely comes in handy
@KOPharaoh
@KOPharaoh 4 дня назад
Got it! Question (for anyone to answer), how long do you think it'll take a bookworm to read and actually retain the information after studying it. Reading and studying are two different things. And or how long did it take you to finish learning enough to become functional and competent enough to proceed ahead and work in the field you studied (anyone can answer)?
@dccybersec

6-12 months on average is what I see most people taking to undergo a set of courses towards getting something entry level. The ultimate key to success is work experience

Thanks brotha. Good to know I have networking and phyton (little) understanding. My Linux is not good since I never really dabbled. Does it depend on what domain of cybersecurity though? I read there are more technical and less technical sides so something for everyone.

I learned networking on school, switch from win to linux wasnt hard cuz i was already playing with cmd on primary school ( 1 or second grade) now i can write bash scripts, python, csharp, id like to learn c but its probably really hard, but shouldnt be so hard and i decided to learn more cybersecurity then programming which i will probably use, but its logical, easy and you just need to know what to do(naturally) and you kind of can say if you are good or not and i know i never will be some national state opsec professional

Focus on a pathway towards a job goal, for example; - Offensive security - Defensive security Have a look at the jobs listed under each of those headings, aim for it, then take a look at what needs to be completed to get there.
