@@sbgipdx I would really love to have a chat with an sbg instructor about that stuff. I mean what was the foundation for this method? I know most of you have jkd backgrounds.. was this basically functionalists fma but made more practical with wrestling?
Haven't heard of the "G.U.N" system. This curriculum has been a part of SBG for about a couple decades now. Tried looking it up. Do you have any links?
I personally would not rely on one hand to target and capture a knife. As well as using frames, Jiu Jitsu uses 2 on 1. I would use two hands to target and trap one.
Grabbing the knife hand like that you will stab yourself because the blade is pointed up. And I have never seen 2 on 1 really work anywhere outside a gym with or without a weapon.
Paul has more live experience dealing with weapons then most people have in the gym. Before making broad statements like that I suggest you try them in sparring first.
