I have nothing against female protagonists. But in todays age there is a big chance that if it has a female protagonist they are gonna need to tell you every 10 min how they are better than men in every aspects or you hear "patriarchy" in every two sentence. the absolute worst part about games and especially movies with a FP particuarly when its a "Strong Black queen" protag is that that EVERY time they face a Male or white villian (usually both) you already know they are going to win that fight, like i genuinely cannot think of a SINGLE time in which a white dude faced off with a black chick in a fight scene and the dude won, even if they ALMOST win they will always be bested in the end. Its pathetic how scared they are of showing men accurately considering irl men simply would wipe the floor with 90% of those fights (one example that really annoyed me was Nathan Drake vs Nadine, you fight 3 times and lose EVERY one)
It's a shame, I'm a huge sucker for playing female character. (When I play Dawn of War, I pick Eldars because nothing feels more metal to me than Howling Banshees slicing and dicing their way through Chaos hordes) But today, I either stumble on preachy non-attractive propaganda tool disguised as a character, or a empty predatory manipulatively sexy marketing scheme to make me buy an empty product full of glitches.

Here's my theory: They're trying to build a female audience by catering to them through gaming and film because the likelihood of WWIII breaking out over the Taiwan Strait is growing by the day. Should that happen, men are the only ones who would be drafted/conscripted and that leaves a large vacuum in the entertainment industry for women to fill. That, or these giant investment companies see African countries' economies growing rapidly like the east Asians' in the late-1900s and they want to capture that market as soon as possible.

The shows don't really feel like they're showcasing games for consumers, but rather showcasing projects and studio prestige to shareholders and/or potential investors. Studios and publishers can point to their presence in these big flashy shows and say to shareholders or investors, "Hey, we're doing important things that are getting noticed". This would actually go a long way in explaining why 85% of the games shown featured "diversity" heavily in their material. Not only are devs/publishers looking to pull into dollars from higher ESG (or other similar investment advisory schemes) scores, but they're also looking to qualify for the myriad of grants and subsidies available from both public and private entities for meeting their intersectional quotes.

Makes me so sad to see all of this. I'm a lady gamer, have always been since I was a kid. I have never needed representation to enjoy a game. Even if almost all the main characters were male, my main focus has always been gameplay and plot. I love the idea of having good female protagonists, but this has reached a point where it's so obviously an agenda being forcibly pushed down our throats that it's just turned ridiculous. I actually prefer to play as female characters provided they aren't intentionally ugly as fuck. But to see games like Gears of War and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 where it's just a bunch of guys hanging out is a nice breath of fresh air
True, if given the choice, I'll always pick a female main character. I prefer to look at a hot piece of ass for a 100 hours rather than watching a gruff dude's back lmao. Plus a lot of my favorite main characters are female protags from kill bill, Silent hill 3, Alien/Aliens, Lara Croft, Jill valentine/ Claire, Every mortal kombat character in mk9 (for obvious reasons lol). Female characters open up an avenue that allows the character to express their personality and conflicts a lot more openly compared to male characters. Should be obvious why. Woman tend to be a lot more affectionate and open with how they feel in the moment. It can be a great or horrible way to write a character depending on whether or not the writer is a tr00n or Long nose member. Men are more reserved and keep their emotions and feelings bottled up and kept in check as to not display weakness, and in return ends up adding a mystery/Cloudy veil over the intentions and true motivations of the character. Think Joshua Graham from FNV. Or Guts. Yet in modern media and society, these inherent flaws and positives that separate us and make us all unique seems to be some kind of "problem" and thus we most homogenize everyone and everything into one blob. Get a black man to cry about his feelings every chance he gets, and make sure to make him look wimpy and have him babysit a strong women's child. Then write a female character that looks like abbie from tlou2 in a setting where it should be absolutely detrimental due to lack of resources and overconsumption of said resources to maintain a body like that for the female anatomy. But you know, at least now she's as "Strong" as a male character. Yet writers never really seem to grasp what true strength can represent that goes beyond having big muscles... I've ranted long enough, I just felt like getting this off my chest.
What I think is worse is using you as a shield from criticism. They make a black character focus on the game, while the mechanics are trash and the story is garbage. It creates this unconscious association of "black character = bad game". Its almost like they are trying to facilitate resentment towards black individuals.
