For option 1, if one of the routes is isaac going "up" and turning into his mother to cope with using religion, the other should be isaac getting an alcohol addiction, turning into his dad kinda
Maybe mom could be protagonist of the sequel Hear me out, isaac remains dead, edmund seems rather adamant about that. Obviously his death would be extremely traumatic to his mom, so the story could have her going insane (or maybe dying) and having to deal internally with all the messed up shit she did to him, paralleling what her son went through in his final moments
This is actually an amazing idea! And her “villian” 100% would be Dad for all he put her through, left the family, etc I bet she blames him more than any ownership she takes herself
Kept on getting distracted by the run. Like how do you get sacred orb and sacred heart in the same angel deal wtf is that luck. But jokes aside this video is really good, loved how it was edited.
I think a more likely scenario imo is the death of Issac from his moms perspective. Through most of the story she just assumes he ran away, so it would be interesting to play as moms idea of what happened to Issac, him running away, fighting off kidnappers and cults, before his father kidnaps him. Obviously it would end with her finding the body and having the fantasy crumble around her. It would be interesting to see an inverse on the story, where Issac sees religion as the harmful catalyst that leads to his downfall, mom would see science and atheism as the fault.
I don't like the idea of stat points because there is no way options will be perfectly balanced, and no incentive to play with any parameters other than the best ones. Like, everybody in their right mind would pick the d6. And even if the choices vary based on personal preference, basically everyone would stick to one build (like, for me it would be something along tge lines of +1 hp, +1 speed, +3 damage, +2 tiers and a d6) and never change it Also, grades are the definition of pointless. Like, what problem does this solve?
I like the story two idea. I feel like instead of the choice being to understand his death, it's whether he accepts it or not. If he accepts it he can ascend to the hill and live a new life. If he doesn't he becomes stuck in a cycle of his childhood and dying over and over again.
ngl this has to be the worst list of game mechanic ideas I've ever heard in my life. for starters the character idea just takes away all meaning from having multiple characters for the sake of shoving meta progression in there, which is the most anti isaac thing I've ever heard. as for curses making them a choice of the player doesn't change the fact every curse but maybe curse of darkness is badly designed. although the idea of trading items and stats and pickups for curses does sound cool, the curses should make the game harder, not annoy the player. for example, how about a curse that makes any pick ups or items you left in a room disappear, what about a curse that adds a ghost that slowly chases you, similar to t jacob, what about a curse that lowers the item qualities you find? as for the item rooms, I think making treasure rooms give you double the options will just throw the game's balance out of the window, especially when there's a lot more passives then actives in the game, meaning the chances of you getting any of the over powered actives on a run like any of the reroll items for example will sky rocket. the "platinum" rooms shouldn't be random item combinations! how about a rare room variant that will give you items based on transformation progress instead? or the option to combine to of the items in your inventory at random for a similar stronger item? speaking of transformations, I feel like too many of them do either nothing or pretty much nothing with a solid amount of them giving you just some health or flight but include multiple items that give flight in their pool. we should have more transformations and their effects shouldn't be something that's achievable through a single item, especially not one that's on it's pool. and finally, the grade system idea doesn't add run variety or makes the game more fun, it just makes your run's success more random then it already is, even through rigging. this idea would fit much better with the item combination idea, giving items extra up sides with drawbacks. if you already mentioned sacred heart, how about it now no longer reduces your tears but now also gives a worse damage multiplier? but what do I know, I'm not a game designer or anything, just some random dumbass on the internet saying random things for fun
I just did a whole school project on the first poem of the divine comedy inferno and did no research into purgatorio and paradisio. Because some of the inferno circles of hell loosely align with the seven deadly sins I had no idea that the terraces of purgatorio were almost 1 to 1 with the exception of greed being split in two. Anyway I think thatd be a perfect idea for a sequel and would fit with both theme and lore 🔥🔥
The only thing I want from Edmund is to show my boy Apollyon some love. Cuz right now he's more of an "Abyss showcase" than a complete character. Tainted Apollyon is fun, but the regular is meh, pretty neat at best
To kind of go off of what you said about the character stat points, there is something like this in one of my favorite games. It's called Hero's Adventure: Road to Passion, and how it handles this kind of system is through achievements. Every time you get an achievement in the game, it keeps track of that and gives you some of these "stat points" and when you go to create a new character/save file you can use these points on a WIDE array of perks to choose from. Do you want more health? Do you want to start off being really proficient in a certain weapon type? Do you want to be more charismatic? Lots of different options but because the points are tied to achievements, and the achievements can be anything from beating the game, beating it on super hard mode, joining or destroying a certain faction, etc. it encourages tons of replayability. You can use these points to spawn with certain items too just like you said so even if you have a ton of hours in the game, it offers so many different possible playstyles and it never feels stale in my eyes. While this game isn't really a roguelike like isaac is, i think the genre could benefit from it greatly
this is insane. the amount of crazy good detailed ideas you introduced in the community in the binding of Isaac is so amazing of you. this proves how underrated and how overlooked you are as a creator. keep making content its seriously amazing.
I love how the character design is literally just Fallout’s SPECIAL skills. That’s such a good idea for a rougelike, and definitely leads for more creativity with characters rather than just having 5 that each just have one trait buffed and the others lowered
Hole point of the story and game design is about religion from a child’s perspective so Isaac being older or mom being the protagonist doesn’t make sense to me
honestly i dont care about the lore i just want more items, more floors and more synergies! so they can make 10000000 more secuels i just want to play more!
Issac would probably see the afterlife as a continuation of his dream, continuing his genocidal rampage of killing everything with his tears. Isaac would accidentally end up becoming the doom slayer, because his delusions was the perfect training simulator.
random thought i had was instead of haiving like the platinum rooms, passive rooms, and active rooms, i just think it should be a treasure hallway where you can walk in and choose to either go into a passive room, active room, or have a chance to get a platinum room which could work like deals, or planetariums
One: love your ideas for what the second game could have Two: we actually do see purgatory twice, Gahena is another name for purgatory in some the Judean Christian Bible And Three: honestly if they do a part two, i hope they keep the CO-OP theyre adding in november (which i hope comes to console), and thank you for that detail, i didnt know when it was gonna drop But to throw in my own thoughts, what if we take idea two (the divine comedy) but we have isaac be divided, ala another deep story, "i have no mouth", where due to the insanity, one man was split into many, so we have Cain, Maggy, Judas, ect... Except several would be missing, but maybe have them as characters you interact with, ones like Azazale and Eden
I bet a buck that one of your narrative ideas hit the nail on the head on what edmund is secretly planning the sequel to be. Question is, will he be like JRR Martin and not change a thing despite someone predicting the whole story perfectly? In his mind, 'Let them have their win.' is how he accepts it. Maybe it's just one are few fans that got it right, but everyone else has their own theories, so it's one person's headcanon against everyone else's. Besides, How hyped would you be if one of your predictions was exactly right, and Ed acknowledges that one of your theories is exactly what Isaac 2 will be? Even if it's a massive prank on his end and your actually completely wrong, it's still a hell of a shoutout.
what would be badass is isaac (the real isaac not the one inside his head) wakes up in purgatory and has to live through his imaginary world for real. Going through new floors relating to his past and his imagination as well as old floors. revisiting old and new trauma and eventually overcoming his grief and ascending to heaven or isaac stuck dwelling on the past and staying in purgatory forever. or even isaac going to hell. I think this would be an awesome extension of the isaac universe as it would have an excuse for these stupid and nonsensical items and floors being real or at least fabricated as a way of getting isaac to move on by some otherworldly entity or something (god or jesus idk)
What about if mother has another child (no clue who dad would be) to try and get over the loss of Isaac who she then tries to give a better life but overdoes it?
haha what you said about curses is funny. Probably 680 out of my 700 hours on isaac i’ve played with no curses mod 😂. Cry about it, it makes it more fun for me
@@arthurpprado it be nice to know what all the Planetarium's I actually pick up do , I know they all look differently but the symbols are still hard for me to remember, only one of them breaks a synergy, that being cursed eye and and the one that gives you meter when you stop shooting and fires a bunch of tears instead, that synergy just falls apart when I got that combination and I was sad
I feel like a good story would be after Issac's mom and dad die they all meet in purgatory where the scenery twists and contorts to fit their worldview as the parents run from each other. Mom's floor would be a cathedral with references to her drug addiction and overreactions to Issac's drawings. Dad's floor would be like Sheol mixed with a bar and constant reminders of financial trouble. The big twist is that Issac was a Cancer survivor and his treatment sent the family spiraling into debt, mom probably also had it (cause she uses a wig and over uses perscription drugs) I also find it hard to believe that one man's drinking could use up an entire savings in a time short enough for the mom to be suprised. Issac would eventualy find out the truth and would be granted the option decide whether to send either one to hell.
is that how it works in pokerouge? I haven't played it so I'm not sure lol in my head i was copying something from COD where in one game you had a very similar thing where you get points to spend on like gun attachments and perks and everything so I just y o i n k e d cuz i thought it would be cool with eye sack :)
Bro got the lore wrong💀 Isaacs mother was religious before the marriage and was part of the reason they divorced because his father wasn't and with all the other issues was too much for him he left out sm lore 🙄😮💨
They were a Broken family. The dad would get drunk and steal money until confronted Mom took an unhealthy obsession with her religious beliefs. The final straw was The argument they had during path to the beast. The dad sure sick of Being told to turn to religion was tired of it, he knew he wasn't a good person "I'm doing more harm than good" and so he leaves. Not because "Mom religious therefore bad so dad left" 😂 Otherwise he woulda dipped long time ago.
@@KaleidascopeX I said it was part of the reason they had many issues the mom was very strict w her religious beliefs and the dad wanted to get Issac out of there but bc of him breaking his sobriety(dad's lost coin) he lost and Isaacs mother started to neglect issac partly due to her pill abuse(moms pills) and he died there's like an to the lore to put in these comments dude
