@@Loxu69 The switch can handle rollback. Games like mario kart and fortnite all have rollback netcode. It's just Nintendo being unwilling to use it even though they're more than capable of doing so. Literally they could implement something similar to melee's new online in a new patch

@@timzy4395 dude can you learn what rollback is before responding. No mario kart and fortnite do not have rollback netcode (Mario kart especially the online for that isn't precise at all). Mario kart uses delay based p2p im pretty sure its the same netcode as ultimate and fortnite uses servers they have 1 instance of the game running at a time

If paying 20 dollars to have the worst online experience of any modern fighting game is something your ok with than you should seriously take a hard look at why skullgirls for switch (an indie game) has netcode thats 100 times better than ultimates dumpster fire of an online experience.

The reason Nintendo online sucks is because the Switch does not have the processing power to use rollback net code. To put it simply, it requires the hardware to run a client side copy of the match to compare to the main version and the Switch, while impressive, can't handle it.

Fizzi visited Jacksonville, Florida around 8 years ago and me and a couple buddies hung out with him a bunch when he was a Brawl player. I was teaching him Melee alongside my friend Gage(who now is ranked in San Diego) and I remember we took him to Subway for his first time ever. He’s the nicest dude ever and it’s crazy to me that we were teaching him Melee and now he’s done this for us. It’s a labor of love you guys. Fizzi is the fucking GOAT.

Phikicheli he sure is. We grew up together and he beat my ass for nearly a decade. I remember he went to one of hbox’s tournaments back in the day and beat Colbol and no one knew who he was. I still believe that Gage would’ve been the best player in the world had he chased it. He was so ahead of the times. He was shield dropping years before it became universal and he could just watch someone do something and perfect it in like 10 minutes.

This is the greatest Smash Online experience I've seen period. Holy crap. No stutter. Able to continue playing against the same opponent while changing characters. And it's even FREE. Ugh. So jealous since I only really play Ultimate now. :-/

I mean if it was an official online service for Melee than yeah it'd be one thing but fan made servers always put genuine effort into their stuff so it's kind of a given. Not to mention it's being handled on PC through mostly wired connections. I'd be scared if they couldn't make that work better lol. Not to say it's not embarrassing that Nintendo still has ass online or defending them but this isn't a new thing with fan made servers being GOOD. It's a great, nice touch but nothing to drool over.

@@IAm-zo1bo if mortal kombat x can convert to rollback any fighting game can. the fact the mad lad can do rollback netcode on a game with no replays fizzi is a genius! smash ultimate is definitely capable of converting to rollback because theater mode can read inputs so use the data to predict player inputs that is how rollback works.

valy0f sure, let’s say it does. Consistently doing it is something else entirely, especially while playing against another person and not just training/labbing it out. And besides, those are just _some_ of the basics. Melee is incredibly deep and complex and it’s a commonly known fact that Melee’s barrier of entry/skill floor for competitive play is very high. AsumSaus has a great video explaining this

I’ve had a couple trolls I’ve run into (one guy taunting constantly and pausing all the time, one guy planking with puff) but like someone else already pointed out you can just quit the match instantly and requeue so it’s not that big of a deal

I can only imagine the amount of salt Nintendo must be feeling right now concerning netplay. First their game had to be dropped from Evo Online because of bad online. And now a single person has successfully made online for a game that doesnt even have a built in online mode, 10x better than their most recent attempt. That's just gotta hurt to watch. If this doesnt send a message to Nintendo that they have to improve their games' online experience, then I dont know what will.

If you already have netplay it is super easy to set up. I've had a lot of fun with it and I appreciate how quickly I can be matched with many different players instead of having to put in a code every time someone get's tired of playing me.

Probably laziness. There's a popular theory that the Switch can't handle rollback but that is untrue. Rollback doesn't require as much processing as you'd think, as only hitboxes need to be moved around when a rollback occurs. The graphics, which is like 90% of the processing the system has to do, is still done at the same rate. With a clever lead programmer and a lot of man hours Ultimate could have rollback too.

watch that micro melee tutorial or read the tutorial on the slippi website^ you'll need a gamecube controller adapter first tho, and you'll need to find a melee ISO on your own

Fizzi's name will go down in history as one of the most important figures in melee. Fizzi, Scar, the gods, Ken, The documentary. I know I am missing crucial parts of melee history but he will forever be part of that. Also don't foget Fizzi is standing on the shoulders of giants the people who made Faster Melee obviously laid the ground work and Fizzi made it way better. I can't afford to pay him right now because I am moving but once I get settled he is getting paid for sure.

Last night I downloaded slippy and played melee for the first time since I was a kid, and DAMN. I have a lot more respect the competitive melee community. I played around 10 matches with this dude named Jammer911 and he 4 stocked me almost every game, even with characters like Mario and gannon lol. I'm absolute trash but I'm gonna get good enough to win a game online if it's the last thing I do
