Couple of things are rather clear with how some are reacting to this show: 1) This is Tavern Talk where we are meant to have a casual conversation with invited friends, both Mark and Jonathan are people I've talked to many times over the past decade and I didn't feel that I was in any way rude or hostile to them. It's just the way I talk. 2) I am one of the very few minion focused content creators left in the community so I am expected to ask minion related questions which I took directly from the community over my own questions. 3) Jonathan himself straight up extended an invitation in doing this again after the Witch reveal happening "soon". This is not saying I can't look at why people think I came off as abrasive/antagonistic and learn from that. I think that is very important to do, however I feel I came off as matters very little compared to how others perceived it.

I think the people commenting on this do not understand how feedback works in business interactions. It’s important to be objective in providing and discussing feedback and not get overly emotional. I felt like you did a good job getting your points across effectively, personally, and Mark and Jon are effective business people and unlikely to be offended so easily

For me when you said "so called telegraphed" abilities was kinda harsh after they explained they want to work on that. In contrast with diablo, poe devs feels like really care and passionate about their game, im sure there are many diablo devs who are like that but it doesnt show on the game. So we have an incredible free game with passionate devs in a gaming industry full of diablo 4, fifa games, owerwatch 2 and starfield games, and i am so afraid they lose their passion little by little when they met with unnecesary negativity. And dont get me wrong i dont mean you, after the end it was clear to me that you probably have good relationship, i meant on the forums some people are really unhinged. I think thats why people got mad about your attutide.

Don’t pay it too much attention, I think it’s good to have someone like you interview them along with everyone else that. It’s important to be frank about the problems in PoE 1 and ask for honest answers about how they are being addressed in the sequel. It’s a hard line to walk between being seen as someone that’s being negative or someone that’s asking those more difficult questions. But I guess some feedback may be that it’s important not to set up a premise in a questions that makes an objective statement that something is terrible/useless. Overall I found your line of questions way more interesting than Kripp’s in his last interview, nearly fell asleep watching that. So good job, and I’m glad they offered you a second interview after the witch reveal.

You did great! Things needed said, they left r/pathofexile (600k+ members btw) on "sent" for the last few years now. That combined with the "PoE 2 will fix it" mantra that had to become abandon as they announced them being separate games... they've let the gunk build up. 100% on GGG. I'm excited for PoE 2 but they let a fire grow out of control and PoE is very rough in many areas for a very long time now with little to no acknowledgement. If they had a good and capable CM for once like how D4 has Adam F. they'd find a lot of this pressure being relieved. Thanks for the upload btw I tried to watch through DM's stream but he ran 3 different ad breaks mid interview in less than 2 hours, like right on top of the speaking. I had to say screw it I'll watch the youtube later lol.

Ghazzy, Been watching you for a long time and a big fan. But your attitude in this video was atrocious and I do understand how this can be misconstrued as it's just your "personality" but there is a clear difference between that and your attitude in this video and your facial expressions while they are discussing certain topics. You came off as disrespectful and smug. PoE is a game we all love and care about but I think this was the wrong way to handle yourself during this interview no matter how long you've had a relationship with Mark and John in the past because you are a streamer.

It is very refreshing to see a developer go ham on the answers and not be filtered ❤ to Jonathan Too many developers who are cowards and only give pr answer just to save their own asses is sad to see (nobody in ggg are these type of people btw)

100% agreed, there is never enough from these two, they're just as passionate and knowledgeable as their players, this is easily one of the best game communities I have been a part of.

ya but they are out of touch with what the majority players want and thats power creep. its why POE is so active still most love the power creep and love feeling like they are a god/immortal. D3 was big example of this having millions every season down to less then 50k when they took out the paragon levels. people dont grasp that power creep has been what kept D3/POE Alive for as long as they did. 3.14 was an example when they took it out the league died the 1st 2 weeks in from over 180k players down to 10k-20k this leagues example that power creep is what people love.

When you have a good game that the fans absolutely love and is getting often really good updates (which i personally havnt seen other than POE these years bare in mind i havnt played for a long time too but nip back in now and then) Youll have creators that love the game they are creating with burning passion.

I like Jonathans answers on the difficult topic of leading new players into the game. It feels like a lot of content creators are somewhat tone-deaf and only think about what would improve their endgame PoE experience, when its such a delicate balance to maintain.

The fusing spam change is so appreciated. I have rheumatism and it's legitimately not viable for me to drop 1200 fusings into a chest manually. As it is right now, I do have to use auto hotkey for it, because my hand just can't handle that abuse. So adding this accessibility change is incredibly appreciated.

Yeah I always save up way over the amount of fuses necessary so I can spam until it starts to hurt in hopes of getting lucky. But if it hurts then I do the 1500fus crafting table link. So in the end whenever I link something myself it ends up taking over 2000 fuses 90% of the time :D So this change will both save my joints and my fusings

i really have to disagree with the skill tree respec argument. A new player should not be able to brick their character before the reach maps. I can tell you 3 out of the 7 friends i've tried to get to play poe failed because of that. I actually walked away from the game a few times because of that. That's not to say that reaching maps shouldn't be a challenge. But a player should never hit a wall in act 5 and realize "whelp, time to reroll" because the build they though twould be good isn't. In fact, this is why Path of Building is necessary right now. NOT because the game is so complicated, but because the cost of a mistake is so high. If respec'ing were simpler, people wouldn't need path of building. And no matter what changes you make for additional information, the fact that a player can't "try" a skill/build" in the campaign will make more players quit than anything else

16:48 while i absolutly udnerstand why its hard ot do it right and why they arnt trying to yet, i think this logic is inherently flawed in a way~ it shouldnt be the GAMES or the DEVS responsibility to actualy math out or determine the exact pragmatic reason you died..... BUT IF THE DEATH SCREEN GAVE YOU THE INFORMATION AT THE TIME OF DEATH LIKE A FREEZE FRAME SNAPSHOT THEN PLAYERS COULD MORE ACTIVLY RESEARC HDIFFERENT BUFFS NAD DEBUFFS AT THE TIME OF DEATH AND SEE AND UNDERSTAND FOR THMESELVES. knowledge is power.... did my buff run out when i got hit? did that creature just do a ton of damage? did i have debuffs? did my defences not work against X thing? its alot to do it right and GGG never do sometrhing halfway whichb has bene super unfortunate cause a death screen to be done RIGHt will require ITERATION AND PLAYER USE FEEDBACK. what would be needed for a very very powerful death screen in poe1: -snap shot of buffs and debuffs active on the player are the instant the server registers death -the name of the enemy and all of its relevent modifiers and such of the hover over name that dealth the final bit of damage that killed you (yes, not always true, but were getting better about small hit deaths vs massive burst deaths from an OP guy) -tracking of the damage type or spread of the final attack that hit you along with its charaCteristics~ (again could take 5 damage to kill you after a 5k crit from a boss) -now to make it perfect do all of that again as a 0.25 second running loop and distribute the players final damage taken stats in a pie chart based on all damage types, and hit vs dot etc etc etc tl;dr its insantly complex how much bullcrap is happening in poe and from every mob thats wants ur soul, and while it COULD be down potentially, the amount of time, effort, AND POTENTIALL SERVER OR PC STRAIN sounds terrifying. cheeeeeeeeeeeers

This part shocked me: Except that people ARE forced to plan their build from the very beginning. You can't just respec at will. You screw up at the early levels, you're done. Make a new character.

no they're not, im just winging it on the fly and it works just fine for campaign. Obviously for endgame content you need good chars, but you wouldn't be a newbie at that time anyway, GGG designs campaign so you could finish it even with subpar build or give you tools to fix it

Loot Filter modification: I want to add or remove an item by drag and drop. "I need a new bow, so >This Bow Base Dmg." "I have the flask of this tier, stop showing me more of this specific flask" That should be a fast in game mod to streamline play. I DEFINITELY won't go to a website to create a new filter for a temporary upgrade while I'm playing. Excluding items is something I may end up doing, but this is so frustrating simple. Modifying the file myself to remove the flask is "okay" but it is a find replace inside a tiered system, and there are 2-4 layers of modifications to make.

Hey love the show and you guys are awesome. Just wanted to say for the death screen idea, could you guys just put the damage type that killed you and a list of the buffs and debuffs you had when you died?

I actually want to see kinda the reverse. e.g. based on my current setup; which enemy in a T16 map is most likely to kill me, why, and how often? Same for map modifiers. I know this wouldn't be easy at all but it would be much more informative I feel.

@@830927mjki that seems like a lot bigger task than the opposite. You'd have to run a sim per monster on map (keep in mind even white monsters will have different buffs from different sources active at different times, making for awkward grouping of stats) which seems really slow

Wow Jonathans bit on why the current league is problematic was very insightful. I am watching streamers magic finding and getting redicules drops and after trying it myself and failing miserably I instantly got demotivated and stopped playing the forest and just went back to mapping

If you're not really pushing magic find, you'll see that drops are better this league due to Wisps. I don't do those MF strat either but this league has the most Divine drops I have. MF is fine, the mechanics are probably just overtuned. Hopefully the drops are just like sentinel where mobs have specific drops with icon on their head like fragments, currency, armor drops, etc.

While Ghazzy did seem confrontational and "rude" or condescending in several situations, I dont think he deserves hate for that. Just something to reflect on. Maybe he can watch the video back, look at his own facial expressions while theyre talking etc and see where he was a little off.

The trading needs a fundamental fix for inactivity. If people ignore trade requests for more than 5-10 messages in a row then thats it you dont want to trade and all trade message will not be displayed to the seller and autoreply with "Not Trading right now" setting the sellers status to inactive. That way i don't have to ignore a bunch of people who are "price fixers" to see the real prices.

Marvellous conversation. Having watched similar with a few other games I can say PoE is lucky to have these guys. So open and honest you learn a lot. They really care about what they are doing. You can tell GGG is a special place to work and that is why the game is special too.

I'm enjoying Affliction so far. It's actually the first active league mechanic I've ever fully engaged in. I'm one of those weird noobs that enjoy learning games without guides, so a "fog of war" mechanic is exhilarating for me. Trying to find the Primal Huntress is a little frustrating, but charms feel so good, and the extra inventory space is great for scrolls and things I want to keep separate from my junk to sell.

I thought the comment about making it clear on then tree when picking passives and how it would effect a skill or what your after is pretty easy to intuitively solve. They almost have it, here is something to consider. Allow the player to set what their desired core skill is in the UI maybe in the passive tree page itself. then simply outline all respective tree nodes whilst allocating new nodes with a outline or indicator representative of the chosen core skill. Simple, intuitive and common sense for new to power players alike. Less is more!

I enjoy these in depth design discussions. Good chat. I do think GGG's take on 3rd party tools is a little obtuse though. The reality is POB, Filterblade, AwakenedPOE, POEstack, POElab take a lot of effort to maintain. It is miraculous they have been kept afloat as long as they have by dedicated players. What I think GGG is missing is all of this effort will be multiplied by 2x to support both games, and A LOT more across the first year to get the foundations established in the first place. I think many people are in for a rude awakening to how janky the game will be to play without all these QoL tools. In a couple years PoE2 will catch up, but until then I bet many players won't be excited about going backwards in terms of QoL. I just hope the building of these new community QoL tools doesn't coincide with letting the existing tools PoE we love slide into obscurity by not being updated.

I wish they would give us the ability to turn off spell effects so we can actually see what's happening in the game. End game builds are just epilepsy inducing chaos on the screen that destroys FPS

RE Respecs, the issue is that it's too punishing to try to respec after a certain point, and easier to make a new character.

On the context of a death recap screen - I think it should show the last 10 or so instances of damage you received, the sources, and what special conditions applies. EG this damage was a crit, you were shocked, you were frozen, etc... while you received it. Of course this would take some effort on the dev side to make sure all these sources have good user facing strings. But ultimately I think that should be sufficient for most players to learn "Hey I always get one shot by crits. Maybe all that reduced extra damage taken from critical strikes stuff isn't worthless..."

My reason for wanting a death recap is that I want to know what 1 shot me. I can always tell when I died because I over extended or ran out flaks charges or a powerful DoT. I can't tell why i died to some random rare.

@ghazzyTV I really want the ability to simply disable "a graphic" without buying an MTX. Especially if the graphic is my character. I want a checkbox on the visual character to simply disable my abilities from appearing on the screen at all. (I may select to see 2 abilities and hide 2.) Ideally secondary effects (lightning from fire) would be turnable based on a secondary effect whether sourced by gear or gem. On the same topic, AUDIO clarity with the option to disable specific phrases. For example the Duelist says, "I believe in traveling light." Every time I want to say, "light propagates as a wave, it does not travel." This thing bothers me far more than it should. Every game has annoying dialogue, but if I could simply enable the audio on a per character basis then I would be completely willing to play with game audio and dialog a lot more. Some of the monster roars are a problem.

The one thing that I disagree with about the tabula farming is that it’s the devs fault it’s not happening. They nerfed the drop rate in the campaign and then again they just nerfed the drop rate over all. So people farm the chains that bind because it drops more often even though it’s more cards. If you want people to farm tabula cards don’t nerf the drop rate of a 6l with no other stats below the drop rate of a 6L that you can craft on

It is inevitable to have GF barb builds eventually, if gambling works in end game. And come on fellow D2ers. Howl of the wolf is obiously "find item" and "find potion". And in past leagues u had the passive for opening chests. You are clearly testing for the GF barb! Don't be ashamed. Copying aspects of the best game of all time will make PoE2 the best game of all time.

When it comes to the discussion of deficient UI, this is not unique to PoE, every single ARPG has this problem. Last Epoch, Grim Dawn, Titan Quest, any Diablo, Inquisitor, they all have the same problem with signaling to the player what a debuff is doing to them. After 9k hours in PoE, I'm fairly certain a purple debuff is chaos-related, blood red is phys etc but that black orange one that reduces physical resistance? Absolutely not. It's a seemingly impossible problem to solve. When it comes to PoE2, I really hope they tune down the raw amount of shit going on, I'd rather fight 5 interesting monsters over a 10 second period than 100 boring ones over 1 second. Finally, huge thanks to Mark and Jonathan for being so transparent and willing to go on record "unfiltered". We Exiles are not worthy.

1:28:00 with the sheer number of builds and affixes in the game, about 70% of affixes are already "foil" affixes to any given player, and most likely the overall combination is "foil" for every single player. You don't need to purposely introduce useless-to-everyone mods. Just like you didn't need a new "the oppressor" unique shield when you could've re-based any of the dozens of literally useless shields to the squire's base.

Let's be honest, the only reason respects are hard to come by is to encourage trades and currency farming, which then allows them to sell whatever they have to offer. From a pure gameplay perspective that SUCKS. There's no reason to buy the argument that "it's an rpg" or something similar, you should be able to make mistakes and try things out, you should be able to be dynamic and adapt your character as you go, there's no reason for you to be claustrophobic with your decisions, ESPECIALLY in this game where the tree is nonsensical from an intuitive standpoint, you should be able to constantly modify your character as you wish, PERIOD. Your final build and your gear is what matters in the end, let alone the hundreds of hours dedicated on each league, and especially if you're not really commited and got time for only one character, which should be your goal anyway. Grinding those respect points, while also being completely annoyed by it in whole process should never, ever, be a consideration from an actual gameplay perspective, why are they time gating you exactly? It's literally a time sink with added frustration, you're assuming people are not allowed to make actual mistakes or test things out to get different results until you get satisfied with your choices... instead, nope, you're not allowed to get results from it.... nah, sorry I'll never buy that argument, it's just false, it only makes sense on games with small and impactful decisions, not actual optimization towards refined properties of damage, defenses and a bunch of overloaded mechanics.

Really looking forward to play poe2. Most of it sounds really interesting and while most of my friends are not willing to learn poe1, they are also interested in the new game. One thing i dont agree on is including a tool like pob in the game. I think you could do it in a way that fits your idea of the game. For example having a really basic build planer, just for the passive tree and when you find new stuff like uniques or cluster jewels, you unlock them for your buildplaner. This way the buildplaner would be suited for the person using it. It also could mean people launch the game menu for using it, boosting your active playercount on steam, which would make sense for your marketing. This build planer could also be the place for your tutorials, explaining stuff like keywords and maybe showing already found abilities in short clips (having the option to also show different skins for abilities) I am used to using poe wiki and build planers, but i think its not optimal for both sides.

I am extremely disappointed that they arent planning any changes for the trade system for POE2. Its an extremely bad and annoying system which gives me only pain. Look what Last Epoch is doing and for the love of god just copy paste it. Or some of it, but please dont let me suffer from this horrible trade system in POE2.

11:32 tbh it feels like a lot of lessons were forgotten with the wildwood. There's so little player agency, you can't leave early, you can't choose what you're buffing with the wisps, you often can't chose what colour wisps to follow as there's often only 1 type of wisp at the spawn point. and meanwhile we're back to crazy magic find/juicing again. at least we don't also have the rent-a-cull mf setup again... I love the new asendancies and the options they open up for build creation, so I hope they come back somehow, but I really don't like the wildwood interactions and what it does to the game.

At 1:29:00 h3 cleqrly hinted that light radius wont be a useless stat in poe 2. I expect some templar ascendency to play with that. Suggested it years ago in the forums. Im sure now. It will come in poe2 :D

The map icons discovering is much shorter is a bad design choice imho. I was so happy when they extended this in PoE1, making campaign, and some maps, so much easier to find zone exists. With this youll run into dead ends that much more often. Please reconsider.

I am shocked that no one addressed, when they spoke about visual clarity, that these absolutely crazy builds are a huge selling point of POE. If they remove this portion of the game it will be like in diablo: People at first will compliment the devs about how old school the experience feels and then quit after two weeks once they realise that they got most of their power taken away and won't get it back for the coming years.

16:40 There is no need in such detailed death screen information that understands what is the reason character died, it only must show two things a.Type of damage dealt (phys, ele, chaos| melee,ranged, spell etc.) b.Numeric damage from a last hit that killed you. Thats it, it is literally enough to understand what is killed you and make modifications to your character. In case of shotgun skills on monsters like from abyss you can add last 5 hits that was leading to death. There's even more to it, they already have all the mechanics that track the amount and type of damage the player receives, they just need to create a visual interface for the player, but for some reason they don't do this.

Regarding trading... maybe they should just make it so that your trade status will be set to offline if you have not accepted a certain amount of trades in a certain amount of time... And by accepting a trade I mean put something into the trade window and accepting while the other ones does the same.. That way you can mitigate ALOT of price fixers and make it so that people will more often reply to trades making it easier for the buyer to purchase anything.. The only ones that will get affected by this changes are the stupid annoying price fixers that are afk'ing all the time... Yes they can just do a trade once in a while to mitigate it, however it's waay more tedious for them to do so.. That would atleast be one step of a solution in regards to trading..

In my mind there is an "easy fix" for you not seeing whats going on on the screen due to your skills. Just give us an option to reduce the opacity of our own generated attacks/effects. That way we can decide how much crap we see on the screen to some extent, and so they can work more on making the visibility of everything else out of our control to look more distinct. The thing with the death recap: I'm not so sure this is exactly what people are asking for/will make them happy, but just more information. Like you mention, if the player was shocked, all the "this monster did this to you" is irrelevant because it was the increased damage taken that essentially killed them. What we really need is for all buffs and debuffs to not disappear when you die. Your characters exact stats at the exact time you died should be visible to a player to glance over. i.e. your character sheet, your debuffs bar etc. You should also make monsters stop moving after death so you can actually hover over them without them dancing around making it hard to read their affixes. Now the game has pause functionality, maybe this just freezing the screen on death but still interactable would be very helpful...

This would however immediately cause all dot players to riot because it currently is a very valid strategy to apply some dot on a boss, die and have the boss tick away with you being dead on the floor

So, a couple of things. First off, thanks to you and DM for the interview. That being said, I'll discuss a few things I noticed in the interview and your response. "It's just the way I talk" isn't an excuse for not communicating professionally. If there's a communication problem, saying "It's just the way I talk" is in effect admitting the way you talk isn't good. Likewise, if you find it "rather insane" to see people reacting this way from it, perhaps there is value in taking a step back and looking at it from another perspective. For example, many of the questions you asked were phrased along the lines of "many people think..." without discussing the basis of these claims. In some ways, this can be seen as a "trust me bro, I know better" argument, as you are speaking on behalf of a hypothetically large number of people. And Jonathan called you out on that ( 2:01:30 ). From this, I would say you could work on expressing your opinions/questions based on stuff you can actually back up in that specific conversation.

23:20 just let players make their own spell effects transparent and it solved all clarity issues. Players can tone down their own effects until enemy effects are appropriately visible. So many games have this.

That's one changes I hope they implement. maybe there should be a new parameter to control that, for example "SetVisible False" to remove both render item on ground and remove text label rendering, instead of currently had to do SetTextColor SetBackgroundColor SetBorderColor 0 0 0 0 to do it - but ultimately the label still took up screen space despite it's invisible.

Can we one day get question about League sequel or finishing unfinished leagues? such as Blight, the story kinda just stop without finding the source of the blight. Metamorph for example, (I know they got replaced) Tane never find the morph he was looking for etc.

I love poe and many games have taken inspiration from it. Torchlight has been remodeled from the ground up and implemented most loved poe features. In addition, they have built-in trade, price checker, ladder viewer, auto currency pick up (except drops like divine and mirror so you can admire and pick it up yourself). Can even play it both on pc and mobile. Customizable drop filter from last epoch would also be a nice touch. Maybe they need to form a team who are specifically working on qol? Neither game come close to how enjoyable poe is but surely have some elements that are better implemented. To me Poe currency are incredibly impactful because they have use other than trade. I am not a fan of gold and I think that was a great call throwing out the baby along with the bathwater! Repair and buying potions are just tedious activities, good riddance. I'm sure poe2 is going to be great and I'll be sinking countless hours and $$$ on it. Cheers!

They always seem so concerned with people tuning into a stream and seeing non-representative gameplay because the streamer has a 500div+ build. Or with builds scaling into one-shotting end-game bosses in general. The issue is that GGG attempts to address this by nerfing the baseline, which affects everyone. Especially the "average" player. But top performance will still spiral out of control with sufficient investment because of so many multiplicative mechanics interacting with one another. If you wanted to actually address the problem of character power getting too high you must do so by nerfing the top end. Like by introducing diminishing returns or caps more broadly. For example, say there was a hard cap on attack speed/cast speed/trigger cooldown reduction. Or item quantity/rarity. You would immediately nerf every single character that scales these stats to unreasonable numbers. But at the same time it wouldn't affect any build with worse stats at all. You could then also much more accurately balance the game around what is possible. However, things like this come with the downside of presenting a clear limit to when a character is "finished". Which doesn't seem like something GGG wants to do. So they are stuck with a problem that their own philosophy doesn't allow them to solve.

I hear about detonate dead and similar effects from so many developers. I am just so fundamentally against on death effects. Just imagine If I were playing dark souls and the boss popped up after it's health bar hit zero without a cutscene or any indication that it was going to happen. It would be rage inducing, I beat the monster, I countered whatever mechanics it had and I killed it. That's where it ends, the enemy doesn't get a got ya moment, I beat it already. That's why detonate dead and on death effects are hated, it is not because it kills you, it's because it feels like the game is trying to troll the player not play fair.
