Watch as Steve Huff established a new speed record for an electric cars with this blazing run of 202.82 mph at Sonoma Raceway at the Holley High Voltage Shootout. Is this a glimpse into the future with this electric drag racing?
so it's somehow better because it's extremely loud? I watched that guy standing nearby without ear protection - can you imagine the same with a top fuel dragster? He would be permanently deaf after the race...
I had a huge heart attack, the ambulamps showed up, gave me the paddlezaps, I came around, recovered completely, made a sandwich, was hit by a car, recovered, and then I saw the electric thing finally run.
You'll have to tell everyone that is involved in running, swimming, cycling, skating, and every other form of racing. I'm sure they are really concerned about what a fat boomer on the internet says is and isn't racing.
@@02suraditpengsaeng41and that's why you'll be speaking Chinese. That and you narcisstic attitude playing right into the hands of the evil ones that convinced you all this electric bs is because the sky is falling. And you believed them😂😂
@@plantfeeder6677 I'm never believe or acknowledge go electric is good idea both efficient and actual environment Equipment will have laughably short range and struggled as WWII Germany if US military go zero carbon
@@Thatoneguythatlikescarsyeah no. Drag Racing a sport or competition in which specially built or modified cars race over a short distance as a test of acceleration.
Uuuuuurm, not really. The idea of racing is to get the fastest time, end of! The idea of a concert is to hear something. You can still go fast (and in a lot of cases actually faster) without the noise.
@@LifeAccordingToMatt he's 100% right. I went to the moto gp in indy. 2 years in a row the electric bikes ran a race. You couldn't hear them coming and going. People got bored. Got up and went and purchased a $12 hotdog. . Nobody will show up to watch this crap. The ones that do it will be short lived. Hell even hardly patented its sound.
@@troyheffernan1261 so then, maybe the days of watching motorsports is going to end. Same was chariot racing has ended. Maybe its not as exciting as people are making out?? they honestly can't watch racing without the brooom brooom noises.
@@mitch6160 Bro, racing isn't just about speed, it's about the fun that you have, and that is his definition of fun. Yours is different. No meed to be so harsh
yo, the goddamn drone is louder than the car holy fuck dude, imagine walking and chillin, all of a sudden this shit hit you and you’re in heaven. no sound no nothing, just gone. damn thing got 2 gears, here and gone.
@@jerrykidwell2893 what I meant was that in the 60s, Top Fuel cars were running 11s. They’ve gotten much faster over time. Electric drag cars are starting in the 8s now, so moving to 3s is far from impossible.
@jackpwade It's called a test an tune. How do you think they get a quarter-mile car ready to run a quarter of a mile? They have to take it to the track, and do real-world testing. Right? A crowd would not be conducive to a good test and tune day.
Don't worry, bits of rubber dust will still accumulate on your face at the races. And you can always do a golf clap if you don't want to disturb the peace.
On top of the fact that watching it is incredibly boring there’s little to no skill involved. Real drag racers have to train to have perfect throttle and clutch control to get maximum traction all while keeping the car straight and trying not to pass out from the g force. This is basically pushing a button and the car doing the rest…
Thanks for the comments, all are sharp and to the point. Good place to take a nap? Where is the smell of burning nitromethane and rubber? Decibels so loud you need plugs? Skill so in tune they shift and are one with the -train?
Sub 8 second 1/4 mile is boring? I’ve built loud and fast cars all my life…. A 1.8s 0-60 might be missing some sound for fun, but it’s far from “meh” 😆
@@dustintacohands1107 it’s can’t check all the boxes or make me feel as good as a proper combustion engine I totally Agree and will die on that hill. But the replacement is crazy fast speed and instant torque. I remember when they said the Prius was the future so I’m happy enough to be getting record breaking speed as a substitute lol
@@djsupahfly whatever works best wins the test it’s just funny hearing these motors when used to engine rumbling. Honestly I like electric more since it’s less moving parts, more efficient and quiet. But I don’t support changing everything to electric with energy grid we have now.
@@callummuir2234 I agree, I personally love car specs over the noise itself, but I do enjoy some good motor sounds. It’s true that it adds a different kind of depth and personality to the race
The problem with electricity is that you can program it to do anything you want all the way down the track. Which takes a lot of the of the difficulty of racing. Yes, you can do it with cars now but it's totally different level of being able just to ramp in how much torque you want by the millisecond.. No. Bueno
@@michaelgutierrez2690 I realize drag racing isn't for everyone. But watching a bunch of rich whining babies go around a track in cars that are so neutered by rules that they might as well all drive the same cars isn't really exciting anymore either.
For those who actually like dragsters and love the feeling of every rpm on their chest and the sound… no it’s not, there might be a fan of Prius owners Tesla and stuff but will they pay to bird watch? I think not
NOTHING about this is exciting. I have been attending races since 1970, and the roar, ground pounding, ear splitting, soul shaking/bone rattling and the smell of Nitro is what got me hooked. THIS is what will make me stop going or following it entirely. And, this video was shot at my track here in Sonoma Valley at Infineon Raceway.
"Electric racing is the future!" Said Future: "Staaaart yoooouur engiiines!" *Flick...beep* *silently peels away* "And the crowd goes silent, and walks out of the stadium!"
Brave of you to assume there'll be a crowd to begin with lol. Half the reason people go to top fuel is the sound and feeling of the cars as they go past you is absolutely brutal and exciting as hell. I am not paying any money at all to watch an elongated RC car go down the strip lol.
I want a perfectly stock 1920 Pierce arrow with the loudest engine possible taking off at the strip going 0-90++++and so on and so forth. I want to have so much endorphins and adrenaline that I'm talking to everyone around me.
You sound interesting. What simple thing entertains you then is it the noise the pointless revenge of an engine? Or are you just jealous a motor is quick catching up to what an engine can do or even do it better.
@@ryandronsfield6177 there is a 70% chance that car was charged by a coal power plant. EV may be better than fuel. Until we all drive one. The only way it will be cost effective is if the government starts overpricing fuel. If you wanna buy a car because of it 0-60 by all means do it. But don’t fool yourself into thinking your saving the environment.
No engine sounds, no smells...... there is no atmosphere of drag racing. This is the most boring drag race I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing. That pathetic thing took off sounding like cheap rc racer. So unbelievably boring.💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't go to drag races so I can hear a mouse fart because the cars are so quiet. Give me 11,000 horsepower that vibrates my chest and makes my ears feel like they're going to bleed
I mean if that's what you want then I can get some v8 make it into a generator for when the grid is down and you can come over and watch as it makes electricity for my house
Soon drag racing will be as follows: Set up a transducer at each end of the track, sit inside your polystyrene bubble and be teleported to the end of the strip at the speed of light. 🤣
If you race at night the entire spectator section will be asleep ɓefore the launch. You can keep electric racing. It will never replace internal combustion.
@@jimmace6148 don garlits broke 200mph 58 years ago and people are doing it in fox body mustangs with small tires on the street now. It's going to be a long time before electric catches up.
@@flakesinyershoe8137 What drugs are you on dude? Are you that oblivious to the unreal advantage electric has over internal combustion engines at a drag strip??
Mullet can outrun this thing on the strip and it's street legal and can drive over a thousand miles between tracks. Your electric engines are decades away from that technology yet.
YAWN... I went to the winter nationals this weekend and took a gal who had never been. The look on her face was priceless when top fuel ran..you would NEVER get that here.

Honestly I think the McMurtry speirling could probably take it. Lol that little electric car breaking the good wood record was audibly and visually the funniest and most impressive vehicle I've seen in a race in a long time.
might as well be just someone on their couch with one of those practice staging trees. just use that to see who would have won since reaction time will be the only variable anyway.
May be quick, sure, but it will never take the place of Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars. This as exciting as watching a sewing machine at full speed.

I think the grass and the weeds will be growing the track will be closed and no one will be there to take care of it if that's their new version of drag racing. Watching that would be a drag.
