10:09 Yes. This is the only channel I've came across that I feel has potential to wake rock/metal dorks up. It wont be easy and I honestly feel that impactful rock/metal may never come back again but this is a start. No one else is doing it. Rick Beato slightly does it by breaking down great songs and subtly reminding people that these songs are multiple decades old and its time for people to make their own original impactful great songs but hes just too nice about it. He flat out needs to start yelling or swearing or something idk 🤣

@@bqvsgravity8956 The thing about being counter culture in the 60s-80s vs now is that a lot of the things artists stood up for have changed since the late 80's in a direction they would like to see the world. There are still loads of unresolved issues from those earlier decades that run rampant now, but those types of ideas are more popular among younger people than ever before. If this trend remains constant as years pass, the only assholes left to be "counter culture" will be fucks wanting "trad life, trad wife" (not rock and roll) and are likely homophobic and racist. Few things: 1. Considering the amount of blowback that modern hip-hop has gotten from dedicated hip-hop fans, maybe using the evolution of hip-hop as an example of rock should emulate wasn't a good idea. 2. This guy (Jeris Johnson) behaves like a massive prick throughout the entirety of the interview. As a rock and metal fan, I don't want this guy as the face of the genre I like. No thank you. You can be countercultural and edgy without being a jerk with an inflated ego. The snippets played of his music also don't sound all that "next-gen"... so maybe he should tone that ego down a little bit. Further, considering how heavily Johnson has clearly had to lean on the legacy acts that he mocks (the majority of his most popular songs on Spotify lean on guest vocalists/artists: a collaboration with Papa Roach on "Last Resort", a duet with Chad Kroeger (from Nickelback), and a remix of one of the biggest Bring Me The Horizon songs), his attitude does come off as tasteless and he seems to lack some self-awareness. 3. I think this is probably the biggest takeaway. Rock is absolutely suffering a relative lack of awareness among the general public, though I do think that trend might start to get more favorable to heavy music soon. I still argue that this doesn't make it "dead", just very unpopular, but it cannot be argued that rock is lacking in popularity. I think the concept of it being "dead" among the fanbase, ultimately has to be decided by the fans and what they want. For me personally, I think that rock has never been in a better place for fans of the music, because there truly is something for everyone here and many bands are innovating within already established sub-genres. I'm also on the political left, so of course I like the lyrical approach of some of these newer bands and the general vibe of the rock scene today. That said, there's clearly a percentage of rock fans that aren't a fan of this. They aren't content with the tamer lyrical approach or the sonics behind it, and that's their right to feel that way. To them, the genre may well be dead, because they're not seeing what they like from it. I don't agree, but I can't blame them for feeling that way. I would feel the way they felt if the situation was reversed. 4. However, I can absolutely agree with Jeris on these rock festivals and constantly headlining legacy acts. I blame this on festival promoters not wanting to risk loss of cash by getting newer acts to headline, but regardless of reasoning, it is annoying to see Korn headline something for the six thousandth time.

This channel is needed in this day and age. I totally agree with the problem not being technical talent. It’s something from nothing creativity that’s missing. Unique creative individualism. Anyone can practice till they are technically good. Most can’t think for themselves though. Most can’t write unique inspired material. That’s what’s missing. Technical quality be danmed if it’s at the expensive of the spirit and soul. People want real. Real isn’t perfect. It’s better than perfect, because it’s f3cking real. This rock savior guy, he's obviously talented but comes off as a poser cashing in on the social/political unrest in resent USA. I do agree with a lot of what he says. Rock has always been the spirit of rebellion/war. Rules are usually the antithesis of that. I’m guessing he’s just repeating something he read on line/heard in collage though. When he insinuates you don’t need live drums, he comes off as being totally naive of the spirit of rock. It’s not just a 20th century thing. This spirit is ancient and conjured with a drum. A real drum. The real drum is not a rule, it’s an indispensable part of what IS the spirit of rock. You can’t conjure that in the same way with a keyboard and DAW snapped to the grid. You can see it on the face of every good drummer performing live. Something flows into him or her and then radiates to the rest of the band. Remove live drums and that disappears. The genre disappears, really. Why don’t yall just roll over and drop, drinking fake food product out of a gray straw, while watching your white phone, to the black nothingness that is most modern music/social entertainment. No color. No real. No life. Sh11111111t. “I’m sorry for being so bad. I’m bad. I’m so bad. I’m so bad and I feeeeeeeel bad” umm, yeah, yeah you might feel bad because that was a bit cringe >.

Well said, and it's only just dawned on me this week the pivotal importance of a great drummer to drive and inspire a great song. Look at what happened when Lombardo left Slayer. It was watered down Slayer. When Lars got lazy, it was embarrassing. The cut, copy, paste approach on a grid kills the raw passion of the spirit

There's pre-planned, homogenized, boardroom-controlled, industry-produced, 'car salesman' hawked and lawyer-protected 'Rock Music - (pick from our curated list) Genre' vs. 3-4 dudes cranked 'n angry in a basement lettin' fly with riffs and lyrics that, were they to get out into the public, would completely blank out everything 'the industry' has attempted to achieve over the last 30 years. Last time that happened Nirvana came outta nowhere. But then 'the industry' just mucked it up again by picking up every heroin junkie with a distorted, out of tune guitar on 10 and a moaning bitch about 'the man' or injustice and labeled it 'Grunge'. Oh, and a flannel shirt tied around their waste. Don't forget that. Now with the intertubes we have an overabundance of music of every genre. Give or take some acts that organically 'made it' using said tubes, we still have 'the industry' in the way deciding who lives and who dies. And if you don't make the added grades of the current year like diversity, inclusivity, blah, blah, blah, you don't stand a chance in meeting their scale. Rock, real Rock, was always a masculine endeavor. In current year we are inundated with soy and feminine ideals. What needs to happen (IMO) is we need to come out dicks swinging with music to match and start slappin' up the public like the Chads of old. Let them cry about it! (free press). Let them form counsels to try to stop it ala PMRC (free press). 'The industry' at this point will do one of two things: Try like hell to sign such acts (which should refuse and start their own labels) or tow the party line while trying to compete with their own versions which will be inferior and fail. But as we've seen with everything else of late, virgin industry 'rocker' vs. The Chad Rocker needs to be a real meme. We can actually follow the downfall of modern society as it lines up with the watering down of Rock music. We can reverse it as well.

True words. I still listen to metal from the 1980s and 1990s, with the exception of a few old bands that still produce albums, otherwise I don't bother. I have gone into electronic and industrial much more where there is some individuality left between different artists. The best remedy is to switch off and listen to the ideas that arise in your head and speak through your instrument, not to mention get together with other people and just jam. It's a lost art, hence no more rock hits being in existence. I hope something changes...
