This video would absolutely not be possible without the new NFL Access Pass program, which is a joint effort between the NFL and RU-vid directly. They both want to change how sports are watched and consumed across new media, and that starts with giving creators the resources to...and I'm directly quoting here..."just make whatever cool stuff we've always dreamed of making".
This program is about to change the game, and I CANNOT WAIT to show you all what I have coming later this summer. The future is now, and it's very, very bright.

Just to give you guys an idea of how insane this NFC Access Pass is, I asked them last week for every single Colts All-22 file from the Mid 2000s so I could make a video comparing Marvin Jr to Marvin Sr, and they sent it to me within three days. We're about to make some REALLY cool stuff with this, guys. I can't possibly express how excited I am.

Huh, it's kind of weird that the NFL is only giving you access to half the league. I was also unaware that the Colts were an NFC team, but the more you know I guess(I'm sorry to be that guy, but I hope I at least gave you a slight chuckle with my terrible joke).

What I find so interesting about this topic is how much you are at the center of it without realizing it. While you talk about your struggle to understand the process and build a brand, I see so many other channels that are growing based on your model. You have become the standard that football RU-vid has set. I see so many other creators trying to copy what you do, but in their own way. From the thumbnail to the cadence. To editing and audio production. As someone who has been watching your content for years, I can't understate how amazing it is to see the impact you've had on the industry. And now to hear you lay out that formula for the next group of creators is really impactful. I've honestly never been more excited about the future of NFL centered content. Keep up the good work. 👍

Hearing you talk about how you, as an under-30, felt the weight of your own career as a content creator on your shoulders, and that you need to take a step back and give the younger up and comers some advice, is humbling.

I've been following Brett for YEARS (I remember that Harrison Smith video releasing) and he's partially why I started RU-vid. I'm in a completely different niche (D&D) but all of his advice is spot on. This is stuff I wish I'd known a long time ago. Audio, thumbnails, and getting a great first 15 seconds to a video are what really separates people with 1k vs those with more. I've still got a long way to go but please know, no matter what content you're making, this still applies. It is fantastic advice that will absolutely help you succeed. Thanks Brett for providing background audio during so many video editing sessions. EJ and you were my lifeline this summer (I released 31 videos in 31 days last July). Videos like this are why you're awesome Edit: Finished the video. The getting 1% better thing is also very real. My first 100 videos SUCKED but I got a bit better with every one of them. Also to 200 videos and so far it is a night and day difference between video 100 and now. Again, literally all of what he's saying is accurate.

I think my favorite part of your channel, outside of being interested in the topics you talk about, is that your videos are never clickbait. It feels like everywhere I look nowadays I’m getting shallow, catchy content meant to grab my attention, with an exaggarated thumbnail & title designed to take advantage of people who don’t know better. You’ve figured out a way to use techniques to catch audience’s attention without being in the consumers’ face about it. And every time I click on your videos, I know it’s going to be high quality content. You’re the goat Brett truly. I’ve been wanting to get into fantasy football content creation, but I get too stuck on the idea of my videos needing to be great or no one will watch. This helps a lot. One thing that has been intimidating though is the amount of resources for stats and data. What resources do you use, and how much does it usually cost you to get the info you need? I always look at PFF and then I start going down the rabbit holes of how many statistics and data resources there truly are for football, and which ones are good or not and worth the money or not.

It’s cool you bring up the thumbnail thing because one of the big things I notice when looking through my subscriptions for whatever content I want to watch with my meal is that your thumbnails stick “pop” more than most.

As an audio person, I can attest to Rule #1. Mistakes and technical difficulties happen … yet they are fixable and can be forgiven if one's audio is on point. Having worked as an on-air personality, as well as one who has covered the NFL, good audio is paramount, and without exaggeration 60% -- if not more -- a determining factor to the success of a project. Here's a suggestion for would-be content creators. If audio isn't your thing, partner with someone who knows audio, and loves it. Think about your all-time favourite film(s). Then imagine -- no matter how awesome the cinematography -- how the audio and SFX moved you. Nailing the audio, no matter the production/product is key!

I once tried starting a RU-vid channel in my teens. It was awful, and eventually my lack of confidence caught up to me and I stopped. Lately I've been thinking of trying again somehow, your content and this video have inspired me that maybe I can make that leap of faith I couldn't do years ago

Well done brett, i remember talking about those exact points 15 years ago back in the days of justin tv (shoutout to destiny day9 husky and the boys) 1 huge point id like to add that i feel gets overlooked: BRANDING and the realization that a content creators "job" is not to simply "make content" the job is building a *brand*... imagery, content, personality, networking, and ultimately a name and that you can leverage into opportunity that reaches beyond a simple internet show

something i have always been curious about, how many hours of noncamera filming work go into an episode, like negotiating a sponsor spot/film study
@BrettKollmann
@BrettKollmann Месяц назад
The actual recording process is usually only a few hours. The other 30-50 hours a week go into film study and writing while my editors probably put in about 10-20 hours in the edit as well. All told I would say it's an average of about 60-70 collective hours of work for one film study video, generally.
