I've been saying for a long time that I would love something like this but with a more "infinite deathmatch" feel. A mode where players join, play, kill, die, respawn and leave as they want while objectives cycle through the map. Layer that gameplay with lots of deeply rewarding and complex challenges, unlocks, and progression and I think you've got a winner. As for these games now? They're interesting but they aren't fun for me long term. I won my third game of Fortnite, so what do I do now? Just win again? There's nothing motivating underlying the experience of an individual game, and for that reason I don't play.
I think that infinite deathmatch idea could work well when used with an overarching war scenario, kinda like Galactic Comquest in OG Battlefront 2 or the Neroimus War in Chromehounds. Each of these infinite deathmatch lobbies are individual battles, and you fight to gain control for your faction for the war effort.
While I am not a big battle royale fan, mostly because I liked the time needed to set aside to get good at it, I can still appreciate the genre as a whole. The mechanic that mostly turns me off for these types of games is the chance of weapons, equipment, etc that aren't in a single place every time in every match. While it can keep the game fresh and exciting for some players, games like Halo (more along the lines of classic Halo) where you had to learn where the power weapons were, power positions, and vehicles to name a few were the keys to winning. That is not to say that is doesn't require skill in Fornite( shooting, the geography of the map, building, and many other pieces that need to be explored). The appeal of games like Fortnite is the risks, the gambles. That is part of what makes the game fun, racing to the rare rifle in time to turn around and gun the others players or run to another location to maybe find a place where they may or may not be there, to live and fight another day. Others have said it better than me, I hope the point has been made. I wish the future of Battle Royale may flourish, as it is a great platform to build upon. Excellent video, Fav my man.
I looking forward to see how this genre progresses. I feel like the core has just started to be refined and it's up to game devs to add their own style. I've just been hesitant to get into Fortnite because of the building aspect. BTW I'd like to mention I liked your commentary style in this video. You sounded way less accusatory and, lack of a better word, angry as you do in your Halo commentaries.
I can understand if you don't like them. I don't really like them either, but I can see the appeal. It's similar to the appeal of the horror and thriller genres. The tension is ratcheted really high as you get closer to finishing. You could lose everything at an instant. Also, they're the opposite of the instant gratification crap like CoD, so they're a refreshing experience to people coming from that space.
I’m just not one for fads. I like to focus on games that aren’t getting enough attention by other people. The lack of variety of gaming is also caused by the fact that we all don’t branch ourselves out enough. Instead of finding our own distinct niches in games, most people just run to one thing that’s most popular, causing every other potential genre to fade away and maybe even die. Me im different, i dont follow this hypetrain bullshit, i pursue my own interests
Nah I feel ya man. Honestly feel like the shits been overhyped. Literally everyone I know talks about how crazy fun it is and I hop on, wonder around the map for 15 minutes and get shot in the ass
I think battle royale games are so popular is due to how casual they are. They have the most random outcomes out of any game out there which allows for pretty much anyone to win even if they aren’t the best in the lobby. Weapon spawns, safe zones, and in fortnites case even the shooting is random. And the big maps don’t have the predictability other games’ maps have because there are 100 unique players that can land wherever they want and go wherever they want and you won’t know what gun they have. This kind of game makes sure everyone has a chance of winning hence why it is hyper casual. Also just because i said its casual doesnt mean there are no good players, there are always higher tier players in every game. Another thing that could cause BR’s success is the lack of competent casual games or good triple A games. CoD hasnt been good for a while, star wars battlefront was destroyed by the media, battlefield 1 wasnt that good, titanfall 2 was given a poor window to launch, rainbow 6 has popularity but not enough, halo... well we know about that, and thats just the fps games
I don't like Battle Royal games personally but I'm glad they have gotten very popular (fortnite to be more specific). Fortnite has gotten a lot of my friends who never play video games buy consoles and play the hell out of it.
The verticality of Fortnite is what worries me the most about the future of Halo. 343 may see this as a abilities such as clamber and jetpacks need to return to compete with Fortnite. Battle Royale aka Last Man Standing style of play has been around in Halo since custom games of Halo 2. 343 needs to learn from their own IP's history, the correct way.
Maps do still have to be designed based on Battle Royale. Some are just unsuitable. Take Halo for example. Many of its maps are from the ground up designed for two equal teams. Just plonking a Free For All mode on all of them will not always work, so games will still have to devote resources to building maps that are well designed for a lack of teams. It's less of an impact than base mechanics, as those maps and the mode can simply be removed and altered without affecting the rest of the game, but it will still have an impact, particularly because resources will be diverted for Battle Royale projects in the game, which combined with Battle Royale's massive popularity and potential profit could result in far less resources put into other modes. Although in Halo's case, if they have a strong launch and a good Forge mode, I think it's potential for good Battle Royale modes is off the fucking charts. Honestly, 343 needs to make sure they rival Reach's community features on the launch of Halo 6. If they do that and support Battle Royale, then they can still build a game that is Halo, have a few Battle Royale modes thrown in, and the community can run wild, and more importantly run itself.
Thats just it right there. Halo already has the resources for it to be a good fit. It already has large maps for its forge pallets, and it can just add the remaining tools it needs to its forge mode (random weapon spawn points, variable kill barriers, etc). It may not be as fleshed out but that's basically all battle Royale is. Using resources isn't the issue. Anytime a game adds ANYTHING it uses resources. It's more about using those resources efficiently and in a way that benefits multiple aspects of the game at a time.
There’s one thing that bothers me about Battle Royale games. The very strong/OP (ex. Double pumping in Fortnite) strategies or mechanics in these games become very infuriating a lot faster than other shooter genres.
I think it will be more of a similar trend to hordmode so like what your saying were it would just be a new game mode. I'm kind of surprised you didn't bring that up.
well considering I didnt click on this video because I thought it was a downword thrust video is my point. when there's 3 other well known youtubers that do the exact same thumbnail I would stray away from that if I were favyn. there's gonna be people that click on this (or dont click on it like it did at first) thinking its someone elses video. having his own brand is important.
Do you really think slapping text over a Google image is a "brand" lol. Because that's all I do. It's exactly what I did here as well. Only used a white background because fortnite and Pubg have contrasting art style.
Favyn it's probably the shadow and grainy look on the background. It's just exactly what other the other two really popular essay type youtubers do. And since they do that background for every vid for the last whenever. As long as I care to remember. It's just recognizable and unique. Same font and whatnot. Ultimately idc. Think people just point it out just cause
Make a video on Sea of Thieves! It's great how it is. Let's hope they don't ruin it with micro transactions. As of now you have to really early anything you get and it means something.
Lmao I never even sent you the clips cause they took so freaking long to upload. But its the thought that counts right? 😂 i'll send them anyways cause they took so long and you can have them for another vid. But good video man as always.
I disagree with you on how it won't ruin other games. I'm confident every other big triple a game will implement it and the first implementations will be disastrous. It will be shoehorned in by investors and resources will be taken away from other parts of games andakr it a worse package. I also think BR opens games up to ridiculously expensive mtx purchases also. Fortnite skins cost upwards to 10$+. For Christmas sakes I bought the Last of Us for 10$ and they are going to have the audacity to say someones 3hr work to develop a skin is just as valuable as the last of us. I'm in my car so I'mma stop here but overall I think initial implementations will be horrid and make games worse by funneling resources and mtx will get even worse
How is that any different than what is already happening. Halo is already ruined. AAA titles are already trash. I don't see what the worry is about. Can't make garbage worse.
Not a fan of gambling games every time I walk up to a chest in fortnite I look at it like a slot machine. The divisions survival mode is better than battle royale imo
Coutch8771 gambling is where you spend money or something valuable to you in a risk that you may or may not get something good in return opening a free chest has nothing to do with gambling halo 5s req system is gambling
That Spurs Kid I understand the pure definition of gambling and while I'm using the term loosely here. The time I have to play video games is short so spending a half hour on fortnite is of value to me and to have a green AR towards the end game is extremely disappointing and is quite shit, because there's no definitive way of earning a better weapon other than stumbling upon it.
Coutch8771 ok I misunderstood what you were talking about before and I'm fine with you not liking it but I got just one thing to say... don't underestimate a green AR lol
Zimzilla 99 because PUBG never has hundreds of a bajillions of instances of guys landing and there’s one gun in the house lol totally luck based in fortnite
I find that PUBG is more luck based than Fortnight. That's why I like it less. Influential things like attachments, level 3 armors, and supply drop exclusive guns all being RNG make it feel like I lost because I got unlucky in PUBG all the time. Fortnight is more arcade-y, has more movement in combat, and has the building mechanic. It feels like I can out play people more often, and I think it has a higher skill gap. Fortnight has a lot better controls on console too. PUBG is still in beta, but it's a chore to play.
First of all, Battle royale isnt shit, you just don't like it. If the genre would be shit it would not have millions of players. I agree that fortnite is not that fun, i like PUBG more aswell but thats just personal preverences
Oh god please don’t use that fucking thumbnail you are not Downward thrust or clownprincegaming. You are better than them. You spend more time on presenting logical arguments and don’t make clickbait titles.
I used a white background so the two art styles wouldn't clash. I'm not changing my thumbnail style. They don't own white backgrounds. They just exclusively use them. White backgrounds are used by many channels at their discretion. I have videos that are 3 years old that do this
