I personally love Tears of the Kingdom but it’s going to be hard to convince me to go back to that Hyrule for a 3rd time well technically 4 times if you count Age of Calamity. so I really hope they do a new era for the next 3D Zelda Gamd
Personally I want them to go back to Rauru's time, with the tears and references it seems like Rauru had serious challenges that could make for a fun game with Zelda as lead, and the world would be SO different(and we could see if Farosh split the mountain yet), alternatively, think about the time immediately following the Sealing of the Demon king in the past, Zelda likely left the world to the ancient hero, or some really strong leadership as they literally built Hyrule Castle and unless Zelda did it before she left raised the islands, possibly with Mineru's spirit's help but they did that while likely contending with serious Gerudo problems.
Next main line game: The Legend of Zelda Triforce Wars. Link (Chosen Jedi of the Goddess) Princess Zelda (Ruler of the Kingdom of Hyrule) Darthdorf (Leader of the Demon Empire/Reincarnation of Ganondorf) Space Triforce 1. Triforce of Matter and Antimatter 2. Triforce of the Fundamental Forces 3. Triforce of the Electromagnetic Spectrum
A Sci-Fi game would kill the series identity, especially with how TOTK advanced technology crossed the line a few times and even rendered horses useless. The computer chip idea as a brief idea that got scrapped, Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka instead stated that the series defined itself from their Lord of the Rings and medieval Europe inspirations. That is the core Zelda essence, take away the iconic medieval sword, shield, bow, horse, castle in favor for a Sci-Fi laser sword, laser shield, gun, car, office building and it's not Legend of Zelda anymore.
I just want to see some traditional zelda dungeons again, that's my only problem with totk personally. Also if they ever feature midna again I will be the happiest human alive
Something I wouldn't mind seeing is a more traditional 3d zelda game that takes place in the first sealing of calamity Gannon thats shown on the tapestry in breath of the wild/ tears of the kingdom. As for the open ending style would be either seeing some places outside of hyrule or a hyrule years apon years in the future where there is more tech due to research on sheikah and zonai tech, tech would be restricted to wild west era tech though mabye with visual influence from quake 1 for its weapons. Swords, spears, broadswords, and bows are still prominent and have unique uses but now there is revolvers, shotguns, crossbows, bolt action rifles, and cannons. It could probably focus on the conflict of technology and magic
I LOVE your idea for a direct sequel to tears of the kingdom. Tho I could see link and zelda going to an entirely new kingdom to face a new threat that could potentially destroy hyrule. Hopefully nintendo continues to bank on these versions of link and zelda, I feel so invested in them. They don't have to reboot hyrule or the characters, just take them to a new kingdom.
I feel like if we do continue with the botw/totk hyrule we gotta see it hit the industrial age at least, and maybe if we see the Zonai again, we learn that they're actually Aliens and a new modern batch invades Hyrule as it finally gets itself back and running again. or we could have for a more 2d type of deal one where the new link traverses through dream worlds
No, the tech in TOTK was advanced enough and crossed the line on a few occasions. If they ran out of ideas for Hyrule, *then they should explore other lands on the planet instead* of killing the "medieval tale of sword and sorcery" identity Miyamoto described.
Tears of the kingdom was an embarrassing pile of mediocrity. I got bored after around 40 hours and couldn’t force will myself through the rest of the game. Major disappointment.
Maybe you didn't like it, but you have to realize you're in the vast minority with this take. Almost every fan (myself included) loved the hell out of it. It's fine to have your own opinion and tastes, but overall it's hard to say the game is an "embarrassing pile of mediocrity" given its sales and reception.
