Today we look at Palworld Lore, using the Paldeck and Palworld's true inspiration, Rimworld, as reference. Even down to the gameplay, Palworld is an obvious colony simulator, not a pokemon clone like many claim. Despite many outward similarities, Pokemon was not the main inspiration behind other things such as Palworld's lore and gameplay loop.

@@SnailOXD One of RimWorld‘s many DLC chapters added in the ability to farm and use drugs for in-game rewards, which is likely what sparked the ire of the Australian Classification Board. With the content discovered in the potential console version, and therefore already being part of the PC version, it’s likely a decision was made to ban every iteration of the game.

@@tomtwice I think I know the expansion you're talking about, yeah you can 100% make drug grow ops happen in Rimworld, but by far more lucrative is becoming an organ trader. It requires a lot more violence and resources to support that violence, but it pays exceptionally well. I just find it rather odd that that was the straw that broke the camels back, but hey whatever they want I suppose

The paldeck is a more accessible way to get a sense of what the game world is like in tone and history. The lore notes spread about the islands are cool but I wish they were a little more obvious to find, I'd love to read more of them

I've barely ever played a Pokemon game before, but I do enjoy Palworld a lot. I'm on my second playthrough. Got every pal and beat every boss on both characters. Now I'm building a home with the 3 stacks of stone I have lol.

so, inverse to Pokemon fans being guaranteed to enjoy playing Palworld, I actually don't think the opposite would be true. Palworld is like if Pokemon was made for a modern gaming audience rather than a 12th iteration of a game from the 90s. I'm glad to hear youre having fun playing! Honestly, as a youtuber, I straight up just dont have a ton of time to play games anymore lol

Yeah this is absolutely the common thread among most Palworld haters. Most people can't see that this is very clearly a colony sim that just happens to have catchable creatures. Idk I'm pretty sure I can't butcher my LVL 3 Pidgey for meat

If you ask me, Palword is most like Ark: Survival Evolved. From the way you have to mine the ore to make the metal you need for every single bullet to the way you can max out the character creator sliders so you can play as a deformed monstrosity.

Yeah but I think that's more a consequence of making the Colony Sim aspect work. I had to edit the CEO interview down by quite a bit for that section, but he does go on to say "we needed to figure out how to make a colony sim work in 3D"

Yeah, while Pokémon and Ark are the legs of this manic megamix, Rimworld is certainly the heart of it all. For me personally it manages to scratch the Dungeon Keeper and the Borderlands itch at the same time... that shouldn't be possible, but these madlads did it! :D

@@SnailOXD The pals are like the borderlands weapons. You go out farming till you get the right perks like in borderland weapons but you can breed them. 😅

While the outward elements like UI and gameplay are directly inspired by other titles, the game is a spiritual successor to Rimworld IMO. Again it's all opinion, but I think it's it's clear, personally

Pft. Too bad, I play it like a pet sim and don't even need farms and been dealing raids till lvl40 with low tier pals. It looks like the towers re-generate the pals and they re-spawn them only on the island and that's why the humans are there to steal the pals for use. The game's biggest problem is the force grind to the minimal passing lvl to fight the bosses or you'll never beat the boss in the 10 minute mark for doing 1dmg. This is probably the reason of player slow down once they have beaten the 3rd boss when it gets grindy.

I'll agree the game does get very grindy, and probably why I haven't played it since the making of this video. As a pet sim is very interesting; did you have an favourite Pals? My personal favourite is to have a base that is strictly Lamballs

@@SnailOXD 😕Well, I miss my darling dog, she passed suddenly on Dec'23 so I have a VR version of her as the Firefox. She's my base defense and I use her to damage or wipe out raiders before they even reach base. Also the Petela, she's such a cute little sister like my god sister gave her the same nick name. I love high fiving her after she helps me craft. So cute 😅

@@Ming1975 I'm so sorry friend. My dear cat Atticus passed away in April of 23, I still haven't really recovered. He was such a sweet boy, loved everyone unconditionally. Hopefully they're snuggling up on the rainbow bridge waiting for us

Undoubtedly a massive influence in how the game plays, but I think it’s a symptom of wanting to adapt a colony sim like Rimworld to the 3D space. Rimworld would NOT work as a 3D game

Pretty sure the Pokèdex entries are pretty grim, not very far from Palworld, and they're targeted against children. I guess the censors probably do not care much about the written side in Pokèmon, hence they get away with it.
